As if things right now weren't bad enough -- God had to go and take "The Gambler," too.

KR was that rare country music artist who appealed even to R&B-lovin' peeps in the African-American community.  His voice and his songs were truly that soulful.

He will be missed.  Hell, he's already missed.  :(

Hearing Dolly's voice crack pierced me.

I'm listening to a radio station playing a bevy of Kenny Rogers songs and getting to his best known and loved songs and it just brings back memories of childhood and the sweetness of how simple (even when they weren't) things felt back then. Also, it brings to mind how versatile Rogers was, I don't remember anyone criticizing how fluid he was, in terms of genre and crossover appeal.

It's just a testament to how unproblematic he was as a person (similar to Dolly) and just the size of sheer talent that people of various backgrounds, ethnicities, "races" are all on social media discussing their personal favorites.

RIP, Mr. Rogers. That voice was one of a kind.

Due to my age, I really only remember Kenny Rogers as a punchline, unfortunately. Still, that Dolly clip striked a chord with me all the same.
