Members SteelCity
I think Spyder Games was onto something with it being like Scream was for slasher movies. Soaps could do with some self awareness.
Members Khan
Perhaps. But I find that self-awareness leads, in the end, to emotional distance on the part of the audience. I mean, how can you invest emotionally in the characters, or take their predicaments seriously, if both you and the characters know that it's only a TV show (or book or movie)? Members SteelCity
Not that they know, but just acknowledge that somethings are just too coincidental or at least that they've seen soaps before. I would love to hear someone mention that someone gets kidnapped every year, or that maybe someone's suspicion isn't off because experienced it. The genre, or Aesop amnesia gets very obnoxious. I'm not saying that it should be in a joking way. Just acknowledge that past events have happened and grow. How come people in Salem don't think that Marlena's missing, when she gets kidnapped every year?! Things like that. Less of the Aesop amnesia.
