DAYS OF OUR LIVES alum Victor Alfieri (ex-Franco) is joining PASSIONS as the mysterious Gianni, who's been described as "a cosmopolitan ladies' man with his eye on Fancy." Additionally, Alfieri's character is rumored to be the mysterious monk who figures into the show’s upcoming "PASSIONS Vendetta" storyline, a new cross-promotional story/campaign with Maybelline that launches March 14, after the success of Passions/Maybelline's first cross-promotional collaboration, "PASSIONS Red," at the end of last year. Alfieri's first air date is April 19.

I hope this puts to rest those rumors of how "Passions" is soooo predictable and those who were SO sure the monk was Antonio--or even BETH for crying out loud!

Anyway, I think he will be the perfect actor to play the monk. And he is Italian, right? So it actually fits! Now I really can't wait to see this story! As far as I'm concerned this is a casting coup.

Well I like the fact that he is after Fancy and I really hope its true that his acting has improved because otherwise this will be a train wreck. Sure it would be predictable for the monk to be Antonio, Beth, or someone like that but I think it would be far more interesting then a random stranger. However, he may not be a stranger. Perhaps he has a connection to Harmony. I will wait and see I guess but his acting on Days was horrible. That and the fact that we had varying pronuciations of his character's name on Days  .

I do think he should be for Gwen since that story really needs a kick in the ass but I like the fact that they are adding something to Fancy's story too.

I also heard that they casted the other Crane daughter for a two week stint during May Sweeps. I think its just a rumor but there are alot of places reporting it. I guess her nickname is Vicious (what is with these names first Fancy now Vicious?) and she is a porn star/Stripper. I can't remember the rumored actress' name though but if someone knows what I am talking about please elaborate.

I don't know about "Vicious." And why would she be a Crane and be a pornstar? !@#$%^&*] must be loaded! So, that I don't get.

Anyway, I don't agree that new characters spoil the surprise. Remember the amazing story that was "the lady in the veil" on "Days of Our Lives" in the '90s? How we found out it was Kristen's mom (I think)? That was a damn good story. This, to me, seems to be the equivalent of that. And I'm actually hoping for a new character underneath that monk's hood. Besides, it just seems like Victor's chiseled physique would add to the mystery underneath the robe....does that make sense? It's just perfect casting, I think, for the role of the monk.

Look at that picture of him in this thread. He IS the monk. (Not that he really is, but he should be). If it MUST be someone familiar, it needs to be Antonio, not Beth (of the top two guesses). Again, it needs to be a chiseled physique in that robe. It just needs to.

He could be the monk. Or he could be the person we see doing the monk's bidding. I can't see them trying to replicate the, um, success of Passions Red AND deviating from the use of an unseen character.

A new character wouldn't be a bad twist, I guess. A totally unrelated, disconnected character probably would, seeing how David Hastings and Chris (yawn) were both total failures, and Valerie, also unrelated thus far, really hasn't done that much. At least imho, though I think the show would agree about David seeing as how they dumped his ass.

JER would rather waste Victor Alfieri's character on Fancy. Fancy is in love with Noah. And Noah is in love with Fancy. There is no point in bringing a third or fourth person in their storyline because they will NEVER be in love with other people.

And you're right Q Steph, Victor Alfieri's character should be for Gwen.

If it were Sheridan and Luis I would agree with you, Greenlee, but the truth is, JER has yet to engineer a decent past lives storyline for Nancy so that we, the viewers, know their love transcends the ages.

That said, I still don't want a fourth person involved. Maya is enough. Acting Victor could be overkill, though it does make things more diverse and is a nod to the top of exotic lovers she had in the past.

    • I agree, also am able to see various points of view. Lulu, Lois & I think the two of them are going to rival one another for the heat they are going to take.
    • When you think about it, someone who stayed on for as long as Devon must have some fans out there. She also had an alcohol issue. I saw a host of episodes with her and Cliff on YouTube. I wanna say that’s who Cliff was entertaining while Nina had the affair with Steve.  Do you believe she lasted so long because Brooke left and they kept recasting Nina?

    • Thanks again @Paul Raven  It shows you just what a unique and memorable performer Denise Alexander was that I can see her in these moments and hear her even though I've never watched any of the material. On paper it probably wasn't up to much, but I do wish I could see her playing it. Meanwhile, the Diana material continues to seem like one plate of ass after another...I was thinking she had finally been able to move on with the therapy breakthrough, but then we're right back with her believing Peter and Leslie are having an affair. I don't know how much further off the material is that made Valerie Starrett leave, but I can't blame her.  I see less and less of Jessie anywhere in this - is this when Emily's health troubles were starting to phase her out of story? Going a few summaries back, writing out Lee, Caroline, her son and his wife seems so rushed. It's a shame Marland, or whoever, killed off all of them (aside from Lee), as they might have given Lee some story down the line. Or maybe the daughter-in-law survived too - I can't remember.
    • Thanks!  I compiled the list and posted it for the 59th anniversary in November, but just made the updates now for the couple of new cast members we've had since then! Didn't realize until I did the update that Peyton is the first-ever contract actor born in Nevada, so that's another state off the 0 list!
    • What I love about this story is that I can empathize with both Lulu's point of view AND Lois's point of view. I can understand why Lulu thinks it's important for the truth to come out and why she feels a moral obligation to let Dante know he has a son. But these good intentions have gotten all mixed up with her hatred for BLQ, and so she's going about it like a self-righteous bully who hasn't thought through all the consequences of this reveal. And I can understand Lois's thought process keeping this secret. She couldn't bear to give her grandson away to strangers, and so she arranged an adoption that kept him in the family. From her perspective, it's worked out beautifully because as Gio grew up as a "Palmieri cousin", he got to know his father Dante, his mother Brook Lynn, and his grandfather Sonny. She just had the hubris to believe that she could play God and keep the secret forever.  Maybe it's just getting to see Cynthia Watros and Laura Wright in full-on catfight mode a few days ago, but the show is starting to remind me of Guiding Light in its heyday, where most of the drama comes from the interactions of long-running characters who are likeable in some ways but have enough fatal flaws that they create their own problems. That's a sharp contrast for the way GH has generally been written since the JFP era, where most of the drama comes from external threats: supervillians, Sweeps month disasters, the mob shootout of the week.
    • Wow, @JAS0N47, that list of states was impressive! And I never knew that James Read hailed from near me! (I was born and raised in a nearby city, about 15 minutes away!) (Liked him since he played Murphy Michaels on Remington Steele when I was a kid. As an older kid, I also loved him on North and South!)
    • Oh, I remember this vividly! So trippy to see Mike Brady as a devil-worshiping judge. LOL! (With the mustache and curly hair in some pics, Reed seemed to have a surface resemblance to early-Jeopardy Alex Trebek!)
    • This makes Karen, now this & a guy on Facebook named Brent Costel. Sony is really deleting so many files.
    • Tracy is going to be excited but only if she is no longer under arrest. Where is Marty when he is needed?! But, in case he is truly out of pocket, then where the dickens is Scott Baldwin? Scotty, Tracy needs you. And you know how she is.
