So sad. I wished he would have come back to GH

He had a long career and worked up until a few years ago as Commissioner Gordon in 20 years worth of Batman cartoons. His brother Don seems to have retired. I liked him on GH and All In The Family, and he was a good, dependable character actor. RIP.

Who? Never heard of him. When was he on and who exactly was his character?

Burt Ramsey 1979-86. Cop turned mob Boss

Burt Ramsey had always been a good guy until that last story when they made him "Mr. Big", because he had supposedly been jealous of being passed over for Police Commissioner for Scorpio and then later had to share the Police Chief job with Anna, "a woman."

Bob Hastings was also was Kelsey the bartender on All In The Family and Carpenter on McHale's Navy.

Thanks. That honestly sounds like a RC style plotline.

I still have some of the end of his storyline on tape, where half the town, it seemed, was helping Duke fake his death to fool Burt (who wanted Duke dead). Tony Jones put makeup on him to make him look dead, they did something with his pulse so that when Burt checked Duke's pulse in the hospital he seemed to not have one. Ultimately, Duke found out that Robert was walking into an ambush with Burt walking next to him and Duke saved Robert's life by taking a bullet and becoming paralyzed. Burt was carted off to prison.

Hastings apparently hated the storyline and thought it sent a bad message to the public.

He and Don Hastings (Bob Hughes, ATWT) were brothers.

Sorry to hear of his passing.

Sad to hear about Bob Hastings passing on. I loved Burt Ramsey. I personally hated the Mr. B story. I liked Burt when he was Robert Scorpio's right hand man drinking his milk. Here's a typical scene with Robert and Burt in the early 80s. I also liked this scene because Tristan and Tony are great in it.

Burt Ramsey was a great supporting character. I remember his always drinking milk. Luke Spencer was the bane of his existence in his early years. It was a shame that the powers that be destroyed his character.

Actor Bob Hastings was a great character actor. Love him on All in the Family, as well as Burt Ramsey. My condolences to his fmily and friends.

I didn't like Burt being Mr. Big either. I mean, in one way, it made logical sense...the idea that Burt, who was there before the Scorpios and should have been next in line for the PC job, was upstaged by the more dynamic, worldly, WSB agent Robert. Then he lost out a second time when the PC job went to someone else and he was made co-Police Chief with Anna. In the real world, Burt probably would have gotten that promotion. But in the soap world, it's the exciting, adventurous characters that get those jobs.

So, even though it was plausible that Burt could have developed this resentment that made him go bad, I agree that it was a kick in the teeth to the character.

Just to give the man his due - he actually started in 1978 and first appeared during the David Hamilton murder investigation.

Don Hastings is one of my favorite actors, but I was never familiar with Bob's work until the sad news of his death. Watching clips of Bert on GH, one can't help but note the similarities in looks, voice, and mannerisms that Bob had with Don. And like Don, Bob starred on "Captain Video and His Video Rangers," one of TV's first hits. My deepest sympathies are with the Hastings family during this time.

It was a shame that the powers that be destroyed his character.

I do agree that it was tragic that the character of Bert was trashed during that storyline. However, at least the viewers were treated to an exciting storyline. I wonder if Bob's departure from GH was voluntary or not.
