The thing about Tuc Watkins is when he was playing Dr Dorman on GH, I remember thinking he was really bland and had no personality compared to the first Dorman, so I find it interesting that he is apparently over the top as David Vickers on OLTL, which I haven't seen him in yet.

if Tuc is over the top, then it's because of how the character of David has been written under Ron Carlivati

Come again?? David Vickers is over the top big time. I mean Vicki makes these faces during David scenes....of course he is over the top.

I was going to comment..but I will just say RC writing is just part of it....

I'm not saying he is or isn't ... I haven't watched yet. My point is that it's not Tuc Watkins the actor necessarily being the reason for it, as he was actually super boring and bland in the role I do associate with him.

He is bland and boring because is a a bad actor. I do agree with you on his bland and boring acting if he isnt over top acting it out.

David's been that way for a long time. He was originally kind of menacing, with bursts of goofy fun. And Tuc is capable of playing that. I remember when he was blackmailing Natalie and Jared about Jared's con, and he was actually sort of nuanced. So he is capable of that level of performance. It's just that they use him the same way they use Roxy and that preceded Ron. So I can't totally blame Ron (although i would love to pin this on him too). And I think Tuc just embraced it. Recognized what they were doing and dove right into and accepted it. Made the most of it. Part of it was because he didn't want to commit to OLTL full time, but he would agree to short stints, that rarely allowed him to participated in long involved stories. So they just pulled him in for comedic punch here and there. The more that happened the more they veered into that territory, until everything else the character had ever been was just lost.

I think I first saw TW/David in 06 during the excruciating Spencer Truman story. Tuc was much more restrained then. It's easy for me to put it all on Carlivati since he's detestable, but Tuc takes some of the blame for me too. I like him when he's being serious. He's capable of it! I hope Dorian can make him much less annoying.
