HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

The actors are staying at GH, per ABC. ABC doesn't say how, but my sources tell me that they will try to create new roles for Howarth and Alderson, but I doubt Howarth will stick around long enough to do just that. Michael Easton is

reprising Caleb Morley.

is that spoiler for the rest of his contract or just a short term thing?

It's NOT going to work these actors playing other characters on a show they were just playing different characters, that's a clustterfuck of clusterfuckness(I doubt that's a word lol)

PP is setting them selves up for failure if they even think of recasting any of these roles. They need FAMILIARITY especially since this is getting off the ground. You don't bring people in by giving them characters they love(and actors) and then putting someone they don't know or care about in the role.

Jim@JimRomanovich

Looks like Prospect Park is now willing to share the actors. Translation? The three actors told PP to make bricks without straw...

Who said they weren't willing to share to begin with? Just sayin'...

I'm not sure that anyone has those types of contracts. And I don't think I would call Easton and Howarth "big stars".

Kim Zimmer had a 52 week cycle in her final years at GL. If P&G tossed her during that year they had to pay out that year to her. however, she also had mutuality of Contract where she could give notice of quitting at anytime but P&G tol her how much notice shed have to give. If zimmer did this then P&G would not have to pay her the rest of her contract

Those types of contracts are not typical I wouldn't think these days unless you are someone like Zimmer or Susan Lucci or Erika Slezak.

I think they are rare as well

but how does that work? John romances Natalie from April to July on PP and then Sam from Aug to Nov on GH? and what do Sam and Natalie do while John is off their show?

Is this working in tandem with PP to have Easton and Alderson step over to PP and reprise McBain and Starr from time to time? Or did PP just completely lose all access to these actors? Do you think they'll honestly recast the three characters? And I'm assuming as the actors are under contract with ABC, they can't get out of them to go to PP even if they wanted to? Sounds like either way, the actors aren't getting what they signed up for.

As of right now, Prospect Park is willing to let Starr Manning and John McBain cross-over to GH from time to time, while remaining on OLTL. ABC appears not willing to let that happen, actor wise...not character. Prospect Park has no access to the actors unless ABC allows it. The only way for Easton/Alderson to get out of their ABC contract is for it to expire or for ABC to release them at the end of their contract cycles. The actors signed up to play the role they played on "OLTL," but on "GH." They got to do just that.

To me this would be like Dallas 2.0 basically having characters people are familar with then recasting them with people they don't give two craps about. WIthout Bobby, JR, Sue Ellen and others from the original I doubt many people would tune in for the show. Sure the younger characters/actors have their fans, but without the actors in roles people know them and love them in, Dallas 2.0 would be just in name only.

What would Dallas 2.0 be if they had recast JR, Sue Ellen, or Bobby, it would be crap that no one would want to watch

It's a bad idea! There's no way to coordinate it so that both shows use these characters on an equal basis! Their stories would have to be in total sync at all times, and it affects other characters/stories as well. Bring the characters in on a short term basis and then allow them to go to GH with periodic appearances on OL. Starr can go and stay away permanently!

If the actors don't wish to go, they are going to have to recast anyhow, but isn't the draw for PeePee's audiencce the actors/performers themselves?

I agree with you there.

At least PP has 15 familiar OLTL faces already signed up......lol.

And that's why the crossover idea is never going to work either.

They've already laid the groundwork to create a new character for Easton. I really think it could be exciting. Sam is really better with bad boys anyway IMHO. Michael said it took years for him to even like the character of John, and Caleb was always his favorite. I think if the Easton fans will just relax just a tad, and be a little patient, they'll eventually get what they want, or some facsimile there of. In the meantime you have 6-8 weeks of story with your favorites to enjoy, so soak it up. Trust Ron and Frank to make it work.

It's not unheard of. AMC/OLTL did it during the baby switch storyline, although the bulk of the story was told on AMC despite the OLTL characters crossing over (and vice-versa), the writers kept the story pretty much intact.

That doesn't jive with their press release, although it is poorly written so I'm probably just confused. They state they're willing to equally share the characters. So PP isn't gonna get access to Alderson, Howarth or Easton but is gonna recast all three characters. They're then going to allow ABC to use the recasted actors to interact with Chad Duell, Laura Wright, and Kelly Monaco respectively WHILE Alderson, Howarth (maybe) and Easton stay at GH as new characters? What a joke! PP loses in every possible way. I don't get why they can't share the actors but as DIFFERENT characters.

Yes, which is exactly the claim PP made for why they licensed the rights to the shows to begin with.
