HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

"There are ongoing talks between ABC and Prospect Park about the characters returning to General Hospital at some point, which could be fine with [Prospect Park] as they eventually want to go much younger with their soaps."

You would think that execs would learn their lesson by now that focusing on younger characters instead of veterans got most of the soaps cancelled.

They claim they want younger, but the only people they've signed on are veterans (Slezak, Strasser, Woods, & verDorn).

Yep I dont buy going younger. Seems to me & knowing Susie & Thom's writing they want multi-Generational stories

They do have a legit press department. I won't comment on how fast they respond, however.

This isn't helping my already deep well of skepticism, Errol.

Can you PM at least? Can I sweet talk you? As much as I sweet talk anyone.

I'm nervous about that too. Unlike the OLTL headwriter news, PP hasn't confirmed Marlene MacPherson yet, either. I suspect they might not have decided on any headwriters for AMC.

Personally, I hope they get somebody who knows AMC's history well and is willing to utilize it. Both Pratt and Kreizman/Swajeski proved that the storytelling isn't as good when the writers ignore the past (specifically for K&S, the Jane story could've been so much better if she'd turned out to be someone Erica knew instead of just a random woman who idolized her).

Pratt MUCH MUCH MUCH more so (though for those first few months--presumably before he kicked Agnes out of the writers room lol, he did use some history). K&S were largely just dull I thought but had some sense of community. Didn't they start the Damon/Tad stuff or was that under Broderick's three month interim? Either way we've been told that they requested Hillary come back for a bit to reprise her role but they were turned down. As for Jane, I agree--and when Broderick did come back to quickly tie up the story--even though due to time we were left with huge holes, she did at least immediately make Jane's character much more psychologically complex.

I still hope we hear something about Julia Barr returning--especially since I don't think we can count on Susan doing more than brief appearances at best--and Jill Larson has been oddly quiet on her FB after pumping up this reboot for a year saying to never give up hope--I hope she's approached (besides, with Tad there and no Ruth or Joe, she's all the more needed--and bringing Petey in would be great for the younger crew).

I am a little nervous about how the news shifted to OLTL from AMC. It almost seems as if they are not focusing on AMC like last time. Also, how hard could it be to find a Co-HW?? I wonder if someone like Margaret DePriest or Clair Labine will join in? We really don't need a writer with AMC experience since Ginger Smith has been their for 20 years or so.

I'm not particularly. All of this just goes back and forth one way or the other, and I don't think too much can be breathed into it--but who knows. Maybe Agnes Nixon is more involved in the initial outline for AMC anyway? Or they approached someone like Broderick but she can't say anything due to being on contract at DAYS and trying to get out of that. Or?

I really don't want to see Brooke without Adam. I'd like to think they are married by now and with no DC, I really think she should be limited to visits

Same news, SOD wonders if this "Billy" character might be a recast of the character Ryan Phillipe played

http://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/more-oltl-casting-news

For some reason I severely doubt it will be, but... I would love if it were. SBH was a writer on that story. I also wondered if, this being online, they would be more interested in having gay characters since even the lamest gay storylines on soaps have made a big impact virally (youtube, etc).

(Next AMC casts Kevin Sheffield :D )

I think OLTL has done a better job with casting, I dunno, I think AMC isn't going to feel the same. I love Jesse & Angie, but I wonder if they'll play a more supporting role. I can see the focus being on the gawd awful Castillos

I like the Castillos (as far as new characters go) and we know you hate them ;) But I do hope that the fact Angie and Jesse were approached so early on, means someone there realizes how beloved they are, and that--especially since they prob knew Erica would be doubtful (at least full time)--they could center them on the show. At least I hope.

I doubt Billy is the same character, I would assume it's a coincidence. But you never know! Nelson described the casting call for a con man, which I didn't get any of in that SOD description.

If it is Billy Douglas, it could open the possibility of a (shock) complex gay character. He's a pretty blank slate--we knew him as a YOUNG teen for a year, and he showed that he managed to be independant and also show a lot of loyalty to friends by the end, but that's really it. I mean he could have become a con man (and still be a loyal guy to friends), or whatever. This is way too much to hope for I suspect, but... They could even play it up "And the return of the first regular gay teen character on American TV, now all grown up, and with a past!!" tongue.png
