Video games

I don't really play video games now - I don't have the attention span and it's too expensive - but I enjoyed them a long time ago (or seems like a long time ago). I thought we could use a thread to talk about them.

One of the interesting ways you can "enjoy" a video game now is watching a playthrough on Youtube. You get the full story, even if you aren't actually playing. There are some playthroughs which have commentary, and some which don't.

Here's one for Phantasmagoria, a controversial 1995 game from Sierra (home to many many series I miss, like King's Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry). This game was a point-and-click horror feature with a lot of painstaking attempts to use real actors, not just for cut scenes (which is a part of video games I miss the most - those cheesy-ass cut scenes of the mid-90's with actors like Dana Plato), but also to have the main character walking around, reacting. It looks dated today but at the time was groundbreaking. My computer wasn't even able to play it.

Anyway, the game starts slow at first, but as the chapters go along becomes VERY gory and disturbing. You've been warned. This play doesn't include a rape sequence, which is on Youtube in another version.

OMFG I swear when I was like 8 I used to play that game at my friends house!! Freaky as hell. That video brings back memories!

I LOVE VIDEO GAMES.

Even though I don't have much time to play video games anymore due to school, I can't go a day without checking in w/my families on "The Sims 3" at least once. Best game/franchise ever. Anyone who doesn't play that game needs to start and anyone who hates it is CRAZY! My GRANDMA plays.

I've played that game in the video - freaky [!@#$%^&*].

I never got into video games. Even as a kid, I got bored with them very quickly.

You know the actors in that (the husband and wife) actually got married in real life, for a few years.

I used to enjoy Parappa the Rappa. It was so different at the time.

A rapping dog...LOL it was such a weird game. But incredibly fun and addicting. UmJammer Lammy was even better!

Night Trap. Believe it or not this was a very controversial game, subject of major Congressional hearings, as our Congress once again managed to show us what their priorities are.

I remember playing this and always being annoyed at having to go away from the footage to stop captures.

I totally forgot Suzy Cote was in this.

Here is a documentary on the controversy. Oh the outrage.

I was only ever into the Nintendo 64. Wrestlemania 2000, GoldenEye and Mario Kart were my favorites and I still play them! lol

I own a PS3 but no games for it. I use it for internet/tv and bluray

Right now, I pretty much just play Madden 11 (on PS3), building my franchise and trying to be the All-Madden level.

I used to love playing first-person-shooter war games like Cally of Duty but now I rarely play them.

Growing up in the 90's, I really loved playing Super Mario, Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter 2, Super Contra, Golden Eye, Wolfenstein, Dune, Police Quest, Sid Meier's Civilization, NHL 93, NHL 94.......and I'm forgetting a whole bunch.

The only sports games I care about are the FIFA ones. FIFA '12 on PS3 is currently one of my drugs on my free weekends ;'-)

Never got the hype over shooter games. Not interested!! Every time I try to play them I get bored really fast.

Toups you forgot to mention TEKKEN! Oh and Tomb Raider!
