What I don't get with this is these characters don't even feel young, or contemporary. Steffy could be anywhere from 20 to 40. Liam has no personality to speak of. Hope just seems brittle.

Why don't they try to get a writer who actually knows how to write for contemporary characters?

That ego of his plus 3 emmys, so of course he thinks he's doing a good job! rolleyes.gif

On the plus side, I'm kind of hoping that they will bring on a brother for this Caroline jr girl. I'm sure he can be someone who is paired with Hope. I'm sure this pill addiction is just going to be an excuse for Liam and Hope to break up for good and Liam can go back to Steffy.

I don't buy the Spencers - I don't buy that Bill Sr. had a son we never heard of, or that Bill and Liam are father and son. Since Joanna Johnson can only make a few appearances, I wish they would bring Bill Sr. back from the dead. Why not?

I agree, I'm all for bringing back Bill Sr too. I feel like there is a lot of unresolved conflict there, plus I wanna know why he worships Stephanie so much. ( i kind of know, but not a lot)

Im on same page with you Carl that i want Liam to not be Bill's son after all. I would just say that the results were wrong and that he is Thornes son. I can actutally picture a scene where Bill suddenly starts acting the way he did at Liam before he found out he was his son, and he just keeps insulting him about it making more sense that he doesn't have the "spencer blood" in him. (Of course i would hope Liam punches that SOB out one more time) and of course this would ultimately break all ties with Steffy and Liam. (unless...gag.... they wanna do some incest story...)

    • Thanks, Paul, I did not know about his interest in the comedic elements or that he was one of our many people who came from the network! I have always liked Marlena de la Croix's writing, which is not to say I 100% agree with her. She's been a member of my FB soap group for a good long time & she actually posts, which I love. Recently I posted about an e-copy of Robert LaGuardia's SOAP WORLD that is free to borrow like a library e-book but on the Internet Archive site & I posted that at the time of their publications, all of his soap opera books were the gold standard.  She immediately posted about "Bob" who was her close friend & how much she still misses him to this day & that he loved to talk soaps & was also a nice guy, etc. which I was over the moon to have her share about the author & his time etc. like that!!!
    • Just more RTD ego trips, seemingly his main reason for coming back.
    • Thanks @Paul Raven  That's a lovely writeup. Do fans feel it was warranted?
    • So I was reminded that we're now meant to be celebrating PRIDE by this amazing post:

I really wonder why they chose to write this whole ‘John is getting better’ part of the storyline, especially since we all knew what was really going to happen. And I hope we find out the answer someday. But as tough and as tearjerking as today was, it was also really beautiful. And the acting, even though a lot of it if not all of it was real, was spectacular. The flashbacks were beautiful too. I honestly can’t even describe how much I enjoyed today.  Having so many of John and Marlena’s scenes be focused on the two of them and their love story was the right decision. It was a fitting end to John and Marlena. And I’m also glad that John and Steve got to have one last goodbye after everything that happened. As for Bo and Hope and their family, I did think that some parts were a little unnecessary but I really enjoyed Bo’s dream and his reunion with Zack. The acting playing Zack actually did a pretty good job too. Everybody encouraging Bo to fight was really the right decision in this storyline as well.  As for the final minutes of today, be prepared. I actually have tears running down my cheeks as I write this.

    • I still continue to think that Dani is written like she's been in a soap opera for 20 seasons and she's come to a point where she's completely spent storyline wise. It's a vibe I'm getting. Characterization wise... It's like she is either incredibly stupid... or just plain delusional and out of touch with reality. I choose to pick the second option. Also... to me... she has not been entertaining for months now. Ever since they decided to jump straight to... she's an alcoholic... which we didn't need at this point... the character has struggled. Her initial Ex-wife-from-hell bravado was more interesting, even though cliche.  I expect her to improve in the coming months... they used her as a clown type of character to draw in views. Now I need to see the human being. If there is one, behind the soap opera caricature.
    • A full 1973 episode that looks fantastic in color.
