DAYS: Another murder mystery?

SOD says in the "Stuff we know and shouldn't tell you" column that there may be another murder mystery at Days and the identity of the person(s) may be shocking.

This is one viewer who thinks Days best leave that type of story alone, IMO. Yes, the cast may be a bit too big, but I also think there shouldn't be any cuts made. You can argue the loss of Nadia, Crystal and Louise may have negatively impacted the show's ratings.

I do know one thing: I would stop watching if the wrong characters were written off. Days, you don't want to lose a 25-plus year viewer. I suspect there would be more viewers behind me too.

Discuss. :)

CSI, Closer, and a host of other shows do it better. I'm with Tony Geary - soaps should stick to their strengths and allow the characters to bleed over a story FIGURATIVELY speaking.

On the flip side, I'm sure a lot of viewers can come up with lists of people to kill off, but why bother? Days has been bringing back too many people and now to risk killing any one of them would set the show in an even worse direction than it is right now.

Oh, there's people already frothing at the mouth with who to off... EJ, Rafe... this show can't afford to lose any characters at the moment. You've got the most tight-knit young cast, you've brought back a lot of good returnees... why throw it all up in the air now for a plot that may cost you a good chunk of audience?

DAYS has been so heavy on the love triangles, romance, and family stories since the reboot that I think they need to do something like this. The show has almost become unbearable to watch because of how boring it is. It lacks any kind of action, any kind of reason to make you want to keep watching. Maybe some crime, suspense, and mystery would get people watching again.

I always thought they had brought Quinn back so they'd have someone to kill off in a Colin Murphy-esque murder mystery. If that's the case, I'm all for it. His presence is beyond ridiculous.

But who can they really loose who isn't integrated well into a story? Stefano? Abe? Roman?

Personally, if I was to do it I would have Marlena killed once and for all - mind you that would just give permission for more Sami. (and the flip side being if they kill Sami that means more Marlena, so there isn't any win in this one).

If they made Stefano a truly evil villain again, a whodunnit? murder mystery would be awesome. But Stefano hasn't been threatening in about a decade, and in the past 5 years he's become more watered-down than ever. Stefano shouldn't have diabetes, for God's sake, he should be kidnapping his Queen of the Night!

Oh HELL NO!!! Why would they bring Austin back just to kill him off and piss off the Aurrie fans? I'd instantly stop watching. I didn't watch Days during the five years Carrie and Austin were off-screen, and I'd definitely never watch again if they killed off Austin and wrecked my favorite couple.

why not. Soaps are supposed to be an ensemble cast and if its not someone that draws interest or drives story why bother. I think ej is the most interesting prospect but I don't see DOOL doing it unless somehow Stefano stuffs him in his lab and brings him back to life. ej right now is the one and only catalyst on this show at the present so they really could not afford to lose him.

    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond. The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time. Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
    • She’s INCREDIBLE. I’m so glad you enjoyed this my friend.
    • I loved SOAP OPERA NOW because they did detailed analysis of the ratings. https://www.instagram.com/p/DJS504ep-ff/ 14th Annual SOD Awards 1998 GH Edit with a Y&R shout-out to Bill Bell who is then seen in the audience. Sarah Joy Brown, Carly, Best Younger Lead Actress (shout out to NLG who wasn't there, had a baby) The GH Show (off) segment VM & Ingo present John Ingle, Edward Quartermaine Best Male Scene Stealer; , Best Newcomer Laura Wright as Cassie on Guiding Light GL Show (off) segment. Hottest Female Sharon Case & she gave a shout-out to Bill Bell who the camera found in the audience
