Agnes Nixon: New Chicago Tribune Interview

  • Member

Agnes Nixon talks about AMC and OLTL with a reporter from The Chicago Tribune:

http://www.chicagotr...,2918028.column

Most interesting part:

Q: Will you be with the show [AMC] as it moves over to the Internet?

A: Yes, I'll be the creative consultant. Sometimes there are writers who don't want my help, but for the most part I have the big ideas. We're going to have a hiatus, you know, for three months. And the head of Prospect Park (the production company taking over the shows) said, "We've got to have a big cliffhanger for that three months." And so I came up with one which I can't tell you. But they loved it.

Q: 'All My Children' is being replaced on ABC by a show called "The Chew," a talk show about food.

A: (Starts laughing before the question has been fully asked and keeps chuckling as she answers.) I know. As Alvina Krause used to say, 'It is to laugh.' It seems an odd choice. I think the name is — what are they chewing?

Yeah that would make ALOT Of people tune out. People are already saying they're not too happy that the show isn't wrapping stuff up in some aspect's. Something like that won't make people watch

^I don't know though. I mean if Erica decided to stay with Jack, lets say, and they all (the characters)---have found their happiness---go to some party to live life and then BOOM. It's classic soap.

Maybe JR goes postal at Minx's house warming or something.

I guess for me, if you think about it, it's rather genius to let them all have some end...where they're at least at peace. Then take the whole/majority of the cast to some party or event, and blow the [!@#$%^&*] out of the place. Then come Jan. we find out who survived and who didn't.

People mad that the show isn't wrapping up doesn't help a show that isn't wrapping up. This is like people hoping the patient dies so they can get a good funeral with maybe a nice buffet later. AMC is continuing and they need to have a hook so people will not only watch it after the interruption, but actively work to find it online.

Yeah, at this point there really is no other choice but to blow somewhere up, set somewhere on fire, have a shooting spree. When the show picks back up, they can easily tell us who lived/died is missing, etc. There really isn't any other option that works to explain what could be over half, if not more, of the cast not returning.

That doesn't negate happy endings--it just leaves us wondering if those happy endings will ever be had.
