I mean, if they say the offered Lucci the same salary, they can obviously afford to. LOL. We're never going to know how, truly, they are able to afford the soaps, but they clearly can and will clearly shell out the bucks.

Exactly. I mean I get why we're all so jaded and cynical about this (some of us more than others... :P ), and these leaks of bits of information are hard to fully trust, but at the same time if we're told she's being offered the same salary, than... she probably is, and they can afford it.

Yeah. I have to admit, I think Susan will continue on, in some aspect. It will be a HUGE outcry if she leaves. Though I wouldn't blame her if she did. However, internet or not, it's steady work (not that she needs it), she loves the show and the fans, and if they can nearly match her pay, why wouldn't she?

I think after Project Orpheus, though I love David and VI, I think moving on from David is best. I kinda agree I don't see Irizarry doing it. I'd love to be wrong though, but where is there to go for him? Honestly? David and Liza petered out. They don't seem interesting in pursuing David and Krystal again.

Cady McClain seems to support the idea, but will she move on? Maybe not without MEK?

AMC is really in a bind in terms of cast. Man. Ouch.

I also agree that if given better material, the younger crowd COULD be interesting. They should try and keep them, but would even they stay?

I'd expect SOME of the younger cast would be eager to stay and more willing to the Net idea (that's an age stereotype I know, but...) And we know Jill L, from her facebook support alone, is all for the idea (mayeb she'd actually get... a story?!?! Nah...)

Agreed abotu David. I *love* VI, but after this Orpheus storyline (which I actually--kinda--like, so I'm not dissing it), I don't think there's really any more story or room in PV for David. I guess he could pop back up whenever they want to bring someone back from the dead? :P

Of course, this is mere speculation, but I think Tad and Dixie will get their happy ending and leave town. I do not see either Cady or Michael sticking around for online. Again, just speculating.

Most likely, PP cannot offer SuLu anything near what she's getting now at the network. However, if they were smart, they'd offer her a "perk" in the form of an overall development deal with the organization. She could help develop and launch original shows based on beauty, fashion, health & fitness that would target her core female audience.

You can say that again. Honestly, between the actors who should go and the ones who will go, I've no idea what they have to build on. (You can thank so many hack HW's for that one!)

Yeah, I can see Jill Larson doing it.

I really wouldn't mind losing Ryan, Greenlee, Kendall, Zach, David, Jake (I think RPG is ready to move on from soaps) ... Jake can be recast. JR can be recast. Will a ton of recasts hurt, yeah, probably in the short term.

I can see Daniel Cosgrove and Stephanie Gatschet doing it. I don't know why ... but I do.

Come January, it'll be an AMC filled with new characters we don't know but will have to pretend to know ("You know my cousin, Leroy Hubbard, don't you, Opal?")

I actually don't see this happening. I know, I may sound naive, but when this was first announced that's what many of the naysayers said. "It'll be AMC in name only, just you watch, it will be a completely new set of characters and not feel remotely the same, bla bla bla" And now we've seen that PP at least seem to be *trying* to keep as much as they can.

Oprah's already got that on lockdown.

I don't feel as worried but then again I have no problem wiping out the entire cast. I do think it would be nice to if Opal took on a role somewhat like that of Myrtle. Where she's the open heart, bent ear and easy hug of Pine Valley. She could slide into that role with no problem. in fact have her open Myrtle's boarding house again or maybe a hotel.

Would LOVE the idea of Opal running a boarding house. I actually don't know why AMC gave up on the boarding house idea--it's a great way to integrate new, young characters who don't have enough connection to core cast otherwise. Agnes Nixon seems to have used it on all of her soaps...

It would be even better IMO, if she had a man to help her with it and they slowly fell in love, That could be a story for those of us at the higher end of the demos.

I always thought Opal should be the next 'Myrtle'

That's where soaps lack, characters who can take over for characters that either pass on or leave. There should be characters who can transition ...

It'd be good, too, if they were to bring back "Pine Valley University" as a way of introducing newer and younger characters to AMC 2.0.

This is where I agree with those who see AMC as gutted--they forgot the need to keep characters who move into these roles. To be fair this is true of many of the soaps (OLTL springs to mind, although if they actually used Renee that could help).

And yeah I'd be all for PVU coming back too--really it seems a no brainer to focus these new characters in situations like that, not just isolated with park scenes or something.

I'm waiting to see if all the broadcast networks move to streaming to get around sharing with affiliates. I could see a network such as FOX going for it and transforming the old affiliate system into a MY Network model. There is so much money to be gained or lost during the transition. Y&R and the other remaining soaps need to watch the PP deal close. This could have worked out well for ATWT had PGP been willing to give up creative control. Hulu should go for it and create a soap to compete. They should just reuse old Santa Barbara scripts

I actually think the PGP soaps could have benefitted even more than the ABC soaps *could* from such a model, but PGP obviously wanted out I guess.
