To be fair, it is all relative. One prob with Passions move is their audience was largely very young--not people who would beg their parents (or bother themselves) to get DirecTV. Of course with these shows a lot of the older audience may have no idea how to use the program to view it.

Passions had a cult fanbase but there was nothing like the outcry when it was canceled as with AMC and OLTL. Also keep in mind ALL tv ratings (including Primetime) were higher back then, so I'm not sure saying AMC's numbers aren't that far from what Passions were is really relevent.

Though it was a syndicated article, the news made our local paper today--a full half poage spread with photos lol

it's because the shows will be new. If they don't even have remotely the same cast, have to hire new people, then that's a major change. I have a feeling LaLucci might guest ocassionally, I honestly would be shocked if she did this. I think we'll lose what vets are left and a good portion of the regular cast. Heck we've already lost Debbi Morgan

She did imply she as interested in online programming for it back when her totally neglected website started--two years back? But I know that's grasping.

The other thing is, back in the day it was NOT a shitty business move--she got much bigger budgets from ABC owning the shows, as well. It made complete sense.

And nobody knows what Agnes has said behind the scenes. Obviously she could have fought harder against some storylines and publicly, but that's not her style, and it might have alienated her even further from the shows. There have been some (minor) examples of stories she has managed to persuade them against. Nothing like unabortion but it's not like Y&R fans and B&B fans have plots and characters they disliked when Bill Bell was still alive.

There aren't that many vets to lose, really. I would be surprised if MEK wasn't involved in this, and Walt Willey may want to be involved. I don't want to see Debbi go, but she was gone from AMC for almost 20 years, and they moved on. I hope Jill Larson may stay, and Susan Lucci, but generally most of AMC's past is long gone. I know it won't happen but I'm hoping this new show may end up actually bringing a few people back. For instance, it would be nice to bring back Sam Gray, and then maybe some of his family like Bobby or Nina (I'm picking Sam mostly because it sounds like this will be a youth thing or whatever). They could also bring Petey back.

Jil Larson for what it's worth has been very vocal on Facebook about how much she likes this idea--so if they would hire her, it sounds like she'll stay.

Someone said Lucci is loyal to ABC, I feel if anything she'd be more loyal to AMC (though I suspect if she did a webshow it would be more recurring)--she's actually been, by her standards, fairly vocal about the way ABC canceled the soap (with good reason the way they dealt with her).

You're confusing the issues, the same as the others who are bitching at me. If Agnes and/or Dramatic Creations, or whatever her organization was named, still owned the shows, ABC would not be allowed to have her "banned" from meetings nor would ABC be the sole voice in where these shows ended up once they canceled them. That is all that I'm saying. If you people would drop this blind allegiance to Agnes for a split second, you'd see that it makes sense. So, again, it was a stupid business decision. She may be a sweet woman, but she's also positively daft when it comes to business. "We're a family, we're a family, we're a family." No, girl. It's a business, and they're preying on your "We're a family" attitude to take advantage.

The bottom line: no one on this message board has access to the contract Agnes signed when she sold the shows. The Dobson's sold

"Santa Barbara" to New World thinking they retained creative control, New World locked them out of the show when they disagreed with a decision the Dobson's made and said they didn't have creative control, and a two year legal battle caused SB's demise, the Dobson's won but the damage was done. As for Agnes and ABC maybe the terms agreed upon was one thing and later with regime changes they didn't live up to some of the terms like what happened to the Dobson's, for posters to have a pissing contest over this is outrageous as NO ONE KNOWS what she actually sold to ABC and what the contract said, if I am wrong and posters have read the contracts please elaborate on what was in those contracts.
