I wonder what his stories would have been if he'd stayed. I think HBS implied the show was going to have a Nora/Drew affair, but it changed.

I never really got the Carlo hype and wasn't sure why he returned. I finally did once I watched some of the original Alex/Carlo stuff on Youtube. Still don't think he should have come back.

I just finally finished reading all of Llanview in the Afternoon, and Thom says that he quickly realized his character would be used pretty exclusively as a "hinge" character (his word.) Ie coming in to cause and propel or else tie up a storyline and then going away again quickly--which is largely how he was used after a time.

All I remember really about Malone's last little while was all the Irish mob stuff but maybe that was a bit earlier. Still I don't think I would have replaced him with Leah Laiman and Jean Passanante--all I remember of their era is what a boring muddled mess the show was.

IIRC, when Malone was still there he'd originally brought Drew on to have an interracial romance with Rachel, which Becky Lee Abbott would turn up over to be violently against, igniting some sort of racial strife in Llanview - which makes absolutely no sense, having seen Becky Lee. This was the story he vaguely outlined in some fan correspondence a while back, without really mentioning Becky by name but I know it was going to be her role. Seeing as I found both of the young actors in those particular roles at the time to be stunningly boring, I would have found it hard to care.

I believe someone else later on did plan for Drew and Nora - HBS talked about it in an interview around the time JFP came aboard - but it got scuttled.

Thank god! It would probably turn into a "Dorian and Joey" all over again (just not as good). They did a lot of that Older woman, younger man stuff on the show. Dorian had Jon Russell, Jason Webb, Joey, David. Alex had Ty (played by Casper Van Dein.) Viki had Ben. Nora had Troy. Blair and Christian Vega.and i'm sure there were several others in the long history of the show.

I guess they had Asa to do the older man younger woman population. Most of his wives were younger than him (except maybe Renee.) They they did Clint with Kimberly.I think Viki might have been the first. Joe Riley was a little older. I don't think the older man, younger woman went over too well. At least in Llanview (I know on other shows it's all over the place. Especially Bold and Beutiful) But i could be forgetting a whole bunch of older men younger woman parings.

I just found out that OK! magazine had like 12 photo's of Erika Slezak from her early days just last month. I went to the site and couldn't see them. Did anyone save them or know of on another place else i could see them. i think they were pretty vintage.

Re: Carlo's return, I thought Thom and Tonja had great chemistry and OTT Alex torn between Asa and Carlo was a hoot. The story was a bit of a dud though. I'm not a big music cues person like some fans, but the one for Poseidon/Carlo is probably my most favorite. It's just a few ominous bluesy piano chords. Another favorite, Viki's eerie "haunted music box" DID chords. Hell, OLTL had great background music at the time. The "Dorian's up to something" music was also good. Did the guy who wrote the synth Champage and Satin Sheets theme also do the incidental music?

Which supercouples were at that time? Patrick/Marty? the end of Antonio/Andy? Todd/Tea or were they later? I loved mid/late 90s OLTL more than any soap but for the most part when I think of couples I loved (with the exception of TnB and TnT), I think more of AMC & GH pairings so the idea of OLTL as all grand romance is not ringing a bell with me even though i taped daily at that time. But maybe its just because I loathed Patrick & Marty.

    • Major flaw! And that's why I said Dani would've been better of an screwed up kid (black sheep). Nicole got an award because she's doing important work. Depression is real, Mental illness is real. People are homeless and committing suicide in jails because they lack proper help. Yes, she modeled, but I mean, even Tyra pivoted into acting, talk shows, her own company, managing other models, etc.
    • I will admit to not liking John Bolger in the role of Phillip, but on rewatch, he has a really nice friend chemistry with Michael and Krista. And I think it's the only period of time where Phillip hasn't pulled Rick into some stupid scheme that ends up hurting the friendship.

You're right about everything! The casino needs to go and it's ugly! The ugliest set on BTG.
    • Jayne Bentzen is the actress who played Nicole at that point. She joined Edge the year before, replacing Maeve McGuire.
    • Wait.....Anita is an EGOT, Vernon was an important Senator, and Dani was an international model (no matter how brief, although I thought she said she was on par with Tyra Banks(or someone)...meanwhile, Nicole's some nice psychologist/psychiatrist with an award on her wall...but Dani's hasn't added to the Dupree mystique?  I don't think the writers considered ever having any Dupree be less than utterly fabulously successful  and that's actually flaw in the structure of the show.  Oh, I forgot to say...Smitty acts like she stumbled into Vanessa's Only Fans account and paid for a picture of her dirty undies before realizing it was her.
    • I watched another batch of episodes and I have a sense of dread. I fear they are setting up a murder storyline with one of my favorite characters as the victim. I don't know if that would be considered a spoiler so won't reveal the character. If that's so, i will be extremely disappointed as this person has done Emmy caliber work and would create such a void on the show.  If I'm right, I think I know who the suspect will be and I would rather the suspect be murdered.  Joel Crothers's Miles has had more of a presence with his wife Nicole and I enjoy both actors. Crothers is just so yummy and charismatic. Don't know who plays Nicole but I like their relationship.  Ann Williams has been phenomenal as Margo. Margo is desperate to keep Eliot and make April happy. Williams had a nice scene with Kibbee's Geraldine about Logan and the baby. Eliot has been so slimy and menacing but he's so watchable. April and Draper are still fighting over the baby and something has happened to April to land her in the hospital. I just keep hoping she'll kick Draper out. The man is such a pain. Raven needs to come back and sleep with him. She can liven him up. Ann Flood and Frances Fisher had a wonderfully written scene where Deborah confesses her feelings for Owen. The writing and acting for this scene was first-rate. I want more of Flood. It's good to see Fisher getting more to do. Steve and his low cut shirts have been sidelined lately. The writers are setting up a Deborah/Nola confrontation.  Paige and Brian are still pretty much an afterthought. The movie plot is coming along nicely and there was a great episode where Margo had a party for the movie at her penthouse. Still enjoying the show.
    • See, I imagine it as some kind of "private" room within a bigger casino.
    • I like Nicole for several reasons, she has all the good attributes and qualities of a good person. You have to be a huge hater to dislike someone like her. I consider Dani an underdog. She had a lot to live up to and she hasn't contributed to the family name imo. Naomi and Martin seem to had more flourishing careers than she has.  She might've had a long marriage, but Bill cheated on her left and right. I am sure they had some good times, but I wouldn't call it a great marriage or anything to brag about. She modeled for what 2/3 years? That's not that successful, especially if she didn't pivot to something more lucrative. And that is the real reason she plays momanger cause she is living through Chelsea. Dani is nothing without her family name. Nicole doesn't need the Dupree; she made her own mark! And that's what you should do when you're born with privilege, flip that [!@#$%^&*]! The opportunity is there for the writers to play up her insecurities and resentment issues, but will they? There must've been a reason for her to choose Bill over someone with more status, or coming from another wealthy family. Right?  I don't expect everyone to understand her, but I do, and probably would've made her a more screw up and didn't amount to much outside having some kids.  The lack of crossover from the in-laws always bothered me, too. I hope at some point we get some family dinners. I know it's not earth-shattering entertainment, but I'm a sucker for those scenes. And you can still move the story along, too! I forgot all about my boo Jacob, and he was on today. He, for some reason, reminds me of Garfield the cat!

You're right about that hetero bio son Dupree, though.
