Actually, I think Lemay grew to understand soaps. However, the industry changed -- and not for the better.

Plus, if we're going to look at friendships with JFP as a liability, then we might as well add Nancy Curlee to that list. :)

As for Malone, though, I've said before that I felt he paid lip service to OLTL's history, despite Megan's death and all those consultations with AN. If Malone truly cared about the show's history, then why is it I felt as if I watching a brand-new show, with an all-new cast, every time I tuned in? Heck, even Ron Carlivati did a better job of reaching into the show's past and using it to enhance the current stories, IMO.

We're going to have to agree to disagree, particularly the last comment (IMHo it was Ron who played lip service to the show's past, I would hate to have seen Malone and Griffith do the same). It can be argued that Malone should have tried harder to bring on less new characters, and reached into the show's past more. But, as you said, the show really was in dire states. I don't think his overhaul was as total as other successful ones, like Monty's at GH, at any rate.

When she left she said it was because they did nothing with her. If they had tried, I wonder if she would have stayed. I guess they would have used her in the RJ story but that was never about Sheila.

As for Malone and history, I think he did genuinely care about some of the show's history. Dorian/Viki, for instance. He used Wanda until Marilyn Chris left. He still used Larry, whereas JFP or whoever dumped the man by the roadside. Unfortunately there is a time when rewriting history in the past damages the show in the future - and I think in the long run Todd and the Victor rewrites effectively killed the show.

I sometimes forget that Sheila was introduced during the final year or so of the Rauch era. Were there any noticable differences in her character from that time to when Gottlieb and Malone arrived (not counting relationships, just the character herself)?

The part about NW's Max & Sheila possibly being a couple is interesting. I wonder what she & JDP's Max would've been like together.

Speaking of which: how late in 1991 did NW leave? Wasn't there a period of time between his departure and JDP coming back?

    • yes. today Monday's episode started with words displayed "part 1" and ended with "to be continued"
    • I find Missy Reeve's views offensive and I don't want to defend her, but I don't think she ever said anything publicly about Days "gay content".   In fact, I don't think she's ever said anything negative about Days at all.  There's no indication Missy is difficult or unprofessional on set-except for the whole affair thing years ago lol-but that's a whole different topic. I can dislike Missy as a person and still think she's the perfect fit for Jen.  Cady tried and it didn't work for me.  Whenever Missy steps into the role it works.  It's a two things can be true situation.  Missy has some bad opinions, but she's great at playing Jennifer.
    • Doesn't the funeral go into Tuesday
    • Christian Streaty wrote her second freelance script today on Days. Surprised they gave the first funeral episode to a newbie.
    • And the third thing, which I have no cite for, and I may look to see if one is findable, but supposedly she said that the show had too much gay content in it. And, to be fair, that could be someone making a criticism about balance & not be bigotry but when it's added to the other, that's why it bugs people.

The greatest tv series season finale in history.
    • Mick Savage was sooo unbearable. And more unbearable was the reaction from the female characters to him - they were acting like he is God's gift to women and sooo irresistible. To a point of unbelievable cringe.
    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?
    • This is the coldest early June in my life. It's like it's January.
