December 1976 Daytime TV. Sorry about the poor scan. If there's any of the text of this masterwork that you can't see, let me know and I'll type it out.

LOL! I always just assumed that that story was unpopular for whatever reason. How long was he on the show? (Ahh the 70s when people would still sign their name with a Ms...)

He was on the show off and on for about 2-4 years, I think. I always thought the story ended because it was a little too lot to handle, and Gleason seemed like a character.

I believe he was only from 1976-1978. Once they established that he was an !@#$%^&*] to Edna (and Dottie), they killed him off. He was going to poison Edna, but Dottie switched the glasses, so he died at this own hand.

I was randomly watching some AMC episodes I hadn't seen in full yet, on youtube, and came across this one:

Now I believe this was after Liza's rape--can someone tell me who raped her? I think she left soon after--or was she recast first? I had thought her dad had died by then, can someone remind me of when he died and how? And finally can someone tell me who exactly Sam was? (Yes I could probably find most of this out in the AMC coffee table book but I'm lazy--)

Sam was Opal's boyfriend - was he still on the show at this time? They dated and then broke up because she had sex with one of her clients or something.

Liza was raped by truckers, or a trucker. Jennifer Bassey and Marcy Walker got a laugh out of this in an interview years later. One of the lines they mentioned was, "Can't we talk about FEELINGS, Mother?"

They also laughed about the man who played Mr. Colby, and how he had hair in his ears.

AH ok I do remember scenes with Sam and Opal flirting (I think in Myrtle's boarding house for some reason). Yeah, in the episode it's implied Sam came to Liza's rescue and she feels he's the only one she could trust.

Perhaps I am just a candleholder (those who frequented the "GL Buzz" board know what I mean), but that is the kind of soap opera that, in my eyes, stands the test of time. You could run that today and it still would hold an audience.

Oh, I loved that 1984 episode! Really enjoyed seeing Phoebe and Chuck. It's too bad the Tyler side of AMC has gone away. Chuck could have easily been re-integrated. Charlie, too.

My biggest hope for Prospect Park is that they delve into AMC's vaults and bring us some forgotten favorites to make up for, what I'm anticipating, losing a lot of it's current cast.

That 1984 episode was pretty damn good. I like how Brooke took matters in her own hands. That would NEVER happen today. A female character on the canvas would never be portrayed as strong and determined enough to put all the pieces together herself and then proceed to confront her attacker alone. On this show today she'd be wringing her hands while Ryan saved the day. It's funny how 27 years later, women in soaps have regressed to needing a man to be their hero.

You know I'm going absolutely nuts over that little taste of 1971 AMC. And in color, too! I'm hoping more and more of that frustrating 1971-1978 gap gets closed.
