In the 4 1980 eps kindly sent to me by a member of here there's one with a lot of Estelle and Benny in the hospital. I am trying to figure out how to convert DVD vob files into uploadable files--pm me with any advice.

I posted this not long back in the video folder, but there's a great set of a full week of 1987 eps (Lorraine Broderick was HW), which I've watched twice. A weird mix of stories--Nina searching for Cliff in the jungle to Charlie flirting on the ice, and Nico and Julie on the run, Erica and Travis, Angie and Jesse fighting over an as yet undiagnosed Cindi re AIDS, etc but it's pretty great to watch now.

Starts Dec 17 (ends Dec 23) 1987. Here's the first part, links can be found from it:

ANd this long scene from the Dec 22 episode in that suite is prob my fave Ruth and Joe moment ever.

Watching that clip, although it was kind of fun, reminded me of how empty the Martins have been in the last 15-20 years...I guess it could be much worse (looking at what became of the Bauers), but I think it's just they lost their homey charm when their numbers dwindled and they became known mostly for covering up crimes.

The best part was the start, with Jacob Young doing a spoof of one of those old "serious" quasi-PSA ads.

A majority of 96-97 has been posted by the person with Israeli (? I think) subs, I've posted some links in the video thread. But for me AMC was tops for me from 91 when I started watching soaps till actually prob early 98--OLTL had a few periods in there I was more devoted to, and I loved the end of Loving and the last few months of The City, but... I was born in 1980 and reading *that book Jonathan and Sylph mock me for mentioning* I used to try to picture the stories in my mind, until the Anniversary book came.

I go in and out with ghosts--Agnes has used them since at least Mary Kennicot in 75, and a brief appearance that you can credit as someone remembering I think is touching. When Jean Passanante in her solo era did the tacky ghost Heaven I thought it was kinda fun--though why Heaven looks like an all white garden party on a tiny veranda is beyond me--but then of course she brought Ghost Jesse down to help Tad, and then when she ran away and the show had no HW he saved Tad...

I find it cute--but I admit I have selective memory when it comes to the Martins :P When Joe came back for three episodes the other month I literally would tear up seeing him. It helps that Tad's place on the show has been amazingly redeemed for me in the past year--something that from McTavish's last few years to Pratt made me think he was actually a burden on the show. I do give Broderick a lot of credit for that.

It was a big MESS. But at least he had good ideas, unlike Passanante I think. What's odd, or maybe not so odd, is in that fun A&E Biography episode about the making of AMC (that yes, I bought on DVD from them) they show people plotting the show and Agnes is there talking every point... I wonder if she was actually that involved at the time or if it was for show. Still, again, it was better than the eras immediately before and immediately after.

Some of this is afterschool special, but the fact they discuss religion, have some sympathetic characters not approve, and the final bit is brilliant I think--love they brought back Enid. (Broderick) Oh and Dixie's Paigeboy haircut is brilliant too... *coff*

    • Garneau was in the Liberal party and his riding was in Montreal. He was the first Canadian in outer space.
    • I agree. I really have enjoyed this story from the beginning. I feel like it needed the time for us to care about Doug. They've done a nice job of explaining his motives and making me care for him. I still feel like he's doomed and Vanessa will end up being a widow and now I'm invested in that *not* happening now that I've fallen for him. Friday was good but so was the entire week. I think they're doing such a nice job of keeping things moving. We got good movement with Bill's story this week, Chelsea is attempting to date, Andre and Dani are having tough conversations about their relationship, of course Anita reunited with Sharon. There is *so* much going on and I didn't even cover all of it.  I wish all of the soaps would take a page out of BTG book and start rotating their stories. I love that everybody is getting a chance to shine and they don't just sit on one lead story to the point you get sick of it.
    • Did Jordan Clarke have a departure sometime between 1985 and 1989? I know Robert Newman had three runs: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end.
    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
    • Gosh, what a waste with Lunacy. Why have her live with $B, reveal Finn, pardon her, etc What makes this story incredibly hollow is that what Luna is asking isn't unreasonable - to spend time with her cousin father. She's not asking to move in with them. How hard with it be for Finn to throw her a bone by, say, I'll meet you for lunch/coffee once at week at the hospital cafeteria. Lunacy isn't going to hurt Finn. In fact, all her crimes were related to finding her father and it turns out to be someone she's loved her entire life. Instead of course-correcting the nonsense of last summer, Brad somehow found a way to make this worse! That's a skill... Of all the younger actors B&B has cast during the past 5 years, LY has shown the most growth and range. Why get rid of her?
    • On the subject of sets (seems more interesting to discuss than the actual show)  Some sets we don't see anymore Lauren/Michael apartment (haven't seen that in years) Victoria's house (are Marian/Tessa living there?) Apartment above Crimson Lights (I think Chelsea was the last resident) Penthouse (Lily's home) Chancellor Estate (Devon/Abby) Chancellor office (once Dark Horse) Nick's house GCAC room (used as residence/hotel room for several characters) Some of these may pop up again. The tack house, for example, was not seen for many months before being used again. Have I missed anything?
    • Thanks for searching through everything. Worked on them so long, just too lazy to check for those links myself, so I am glad you chose to do it! I guess I never did type out anything for 1973-1977 in regards to the preemptions, but they are on the charts at least (and this far back, they don't seem to do any of those "breakouts" anymore, so things are simpler in the 1970's, so eventually I could type those out).
    • I dump on the Y&R sets problem all the time, but BOLD is no better -- and they're not even introducing new sets. All of their sets are years old, and very few look like they're inhabited by people with money. Is that going to change with this move? I'd rather they save the money spent on another remote, which is no better than an HGTV travelogue, and get some new/better sets.
    • The donut posts here make up for a Friday show that was barely meh. Aside from seeing Anna, I really didn't care much about anything else. While I understand the thought behind breaking up all the sadness with "other scenes," I'd rather they moved right to John's funeral. Instead of hearing a stupid story about John changing some minor character's tire 20 years ago, just move on to the crying. I also thought the Chad and Cat scenes were a waste. I realize not everyone is devastated by John's death to the point of not functioning, but going sky diving is a choice. By the way, Jack and Jennifer are giving me nothing on this return. Please leave asap. DAYS did such a great job with John's death, so ending the week this way was a letdown.
