Lemme guess: Susan and Liza fell out, because Liza said she thought Deidre Hall was a better actor.

Being a soap opera fan, of course I'm a bit nosy and really wish I knew what happened with Susan and her daughter Liza. Of the ~100 pictures she included, I think it's still clear they aren't speaking which pains me. She includes just one picture of her, Helmnut, Liza as a baby and Andreas as a boy. She also includes a picture of a lighted sign that says JOY that she says her daughter (not named) gave her that she still cherishes to this day. She also includes two different pictures of her holding each grandchild, but I don't know yet if they're Andreas' or Liza's kids (nor yet do I know if Andreas has kids or not). She includes two different pictures of Andreas as an adult, but not a single photo of Liza other than the one where she's a baby. That really makes me so sad.

Anyway, I read the intro and it's so clear she not only values Agnes as a writer ("first entertain, and second INFORM"), but also really loved the hell out of Helmut, and his death really was hard on her. ❤️

Andreas has two kids, a boy and girl, named Wolf and Valentina.

Ahh ok, yes, those are the two kids she has pictures of in the book. I wonder if Susan is able to have a relationship with any of Liza's kids... so sad.

La Lucci -- finished Chapter 4 which is about her pregnancies and love for her children. I didn't know this, but she had a miscarriage a year before she had Liza. She was just starting her second trimester and they went to the Bahamas to vacation for a few days. While there, she started bleeding and had the worst pain imaginable, went to the local hospitals there and as she got back home to NY, it was a miscarriage. So having Liza was so special to her, and she talks a lot about how wonderful their relationship was throughout her childhood. She talks about juggling work and being a mother. Not once does she go into her strained relationship today with Liza. She just says that she'll always have unconditional love for her children and grandchildren. After both children went off to college, she would find herself going into their bedrooms and turning on their lights, just to feel their presence. She said even today, she still does this with both Andreas/Liza's rooms.

Really makes me believe that Liza might be the one with an issue that she can't get over.

@alwaysAMC Thank you for the chapter reviews so far. I was also nosy about the Susan/Liza feud. I also think Liza is the one going no contact, and that's her right. I say cut off anyone who interferes with your peace - family included.

Liza regularly posts her kids on IG and shown love to a nanny, I believe, who she says was the one who raised her. I've never seen Liza mention/post any family outside of her nuclear one, which leads me to believe she's gone no contact with her brother, too.

This feud has to be really bad if she didn't even go to her father's funeral and it's been 10 years since they spoke, according to Liza.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, people simply leave the reservation. Something clicks in their mind, and they transform into a whole different person. We all have loved ones who did exactly that.

I believe that is what happened to Liza. It defies logic to be so close to your mother and then abruptly cut off all communication overnight. While no one truly understands the dynamics of any family, I find it hard to believe that Susan could be such a bad mother that Liza would disown her in this manner. Persisting even after the death of her father. Thank goodness, Susan has Andres. Or else she would be all alone.

You're welcome! I did some googling and saw that they've been estranged for about 10 years now. Based on Susan's words in her book, it seemed like they had a great relationship at least through Liza's first 18 years. She wrote about never missing any of her childhood activities and they would talk every night while Liza was getting ready for bed about her crushes, friends, etc.

I do think it has something to do with Liza and her making the choice. It seemed she cut off both her parents and her brother, and Andreas still has a good relationship with Susan (and did with Helmut). So odd... could be politics, money, outside influences/Liza's husband's family... who knows, but they're keeping it airtight.
