Members DRW50
I don't think they do any more than any other fandom. All fandom has overinvested viewers. IMO any fan who doesn't just accept the death of the genre happily and go along with the idea that penny-ante shows like The The are the way of the future is often dismissed as delusional or giving fans a bad name, so it becomes a blurry line when some fans do get too crazy. Members Mr. Vixen
Maybe I'm a lunatic, but if I lived in NYC or LA I would be right with them protesting.
Members Adam
Yeah, its all getting a little too much out of hand. What on earth does she possibly gain by dissing Oprah?
Members Mr. Vixen
Maybe nothing. But she doesn't lose anything either.
Members Vizion
It's the sense of entitlement that I don't get, OPRAH DOES NOT OWE THE SOAP FANS A DAMN THING. Why are people acting as though she has some sort of obligation to save AMC and OLTL?
Members Jonathan
I agree with you. It was harsh. I know she was giving us the truth and I respect that. But I don't think the remaining soaps would appreciate this quote from her: "I will not be taking on the responsibility of trying to revive an institution that for all intent and for all purpose indicates that that time has come for it to be over." Sounds like something Les Moonves would say.
Members Soapsuds
There is more important things to protest than a soap. How about all the good teachers around the country who are losing their jobs because states don't have the funding to pay them?? How about the remaining soap actors on their soaps. Members Adam
Yeah its almost as if to these people Oprah not picking these soaps up when they are all but dead is some sort of Judas-like betrayal to the masses. I mean, I understand Oprah is the queen of daytime, but I mean... come on
Members DRW50
I think part of it is that Oprah has long made a career out of talking about how she wants to do this and that which isn't about the bottom line and she is the light and the way. As such, some expected her to be a savior to soaps, when she has little reason to do that.
Members All My Shadows
Yes, she does. She does with me, at least. Shamelessly sniping at a woman who ain't did sh!t to her drops her a few pegs on my List of Awesome Soap Stars. Robin Strasser is messy as hell. Members DRW50
Unless the kids are demanding to go to Disney World this doesn't bother me that much. Most likely a lot of crew members employed by ABC over the years can't afford to take their kids to Disney World anymore either.
