I don't think the doppelganger story should revolve around anyone at all. This cannot be AMC's, and Erica's, swan song. That's just adding insult to injury. I don't care how much time and money it would cost to junk scenes and rewrite the story and/or scrap it altogether, either. This ish needs to end now before it has the chance to stink up AMC's final days.

In Friday's credits Akie Kotabe was credited as the "Disembodied Voice".

Here is Kotabe's website, which lists his AMC airdates for the next month:

He has done both acting and voice work so they may just be using his voice for the time being, but his news page says he will be "playing a recurring character", which sounds like he will indeed be playing Erica's captor.

I remember him from "Mad Men."

So, Erica was kidnapped by some Asian dude? Oh, Gawd. This could turn into "Memoirs of a Geisha," and I'm not happy about that at all.

It just doesn't make sense. The obsessed fan isn't even a WOMAN? Unless he really is just the voice...in which case, someone else is the REAL mastermind.

ETA: Did MD ever do the Proteus voice? I don't think she did because people were always guessing who it was after the voice spoke, and most would have never guessed Vanessa.

FWIW, based on his blogs he is already done taping. 12 episodes total. So maybe he is just the voice.

So VI was likely telling the truth, that he doesn't know if David is the kidnapper, but doesn't think so. They probably don't know.

I wonder if this was planned to keep the identity of the kidnapper underwraps? If they didn't know who it would be at the time? Or what is going on.

In the new SOD JHC states that Erica's captor is revealed May 12th and that it will be someone "recognizable". May 12th is also Akie Kotabe's second-to-last airdate. So I definitely think he is just the voice and on May 12th, when the captor is revealed, it will be Susan Lucci playing the part.

^That doesn't mean it's the end of the storyline. Just because E2 might be revealed, doesn't mean it's only E2. It's going to take a lot for me to believe that ONE person did this all herself. I think they'll be an overarching storyline here.

Oh I definitely agree with you that this isn't the end of the story and that E2 is the one that is rescued while Erica remains in captivity. Bit since the person currently doing the voice of Erica's captor is done, I think when we see Erica after the "rescue" it will be when E2 goes to visit her and taunt her. I hope there is someone else involved, but it's looking less and less likely IMO.

ETA: On the plus side it would probably be easy for LB to add in a meaningful mastermind tied to the show's history down-the-road, even if that was not the original intent.

She could've said that because she thought she was going on vacation this summer and therefore pretape some scenes. I think the story might wrap up quicker than anyone thought unless LB can think of a creative way to use this story as a launching pad for Erica's final arc.

Yeah, but I mean, it can't be that easy. E2 caught before she even gets to PV? Nah, that doesn't even make sense for K&S. LOL

If this is only obsessed fan, I'm still willing to see it through. It's one hell of a thought out, researched and executed plan. And we know that Mimo and Gabby's nanny is involved, so it's not JUST obsessed fan.

I still think there's some kind of umbrella storyline here, I'm just not sure what. If it's only obsessed fan and one other person, that's lame, but doable. If it's Vanessa or some connection to Ricky, it's epic.

Just because the Voice is revealed doesn't mean it's the kidnapper, does it? Dunno. Well see, but I don't think this is as easy as it sounds.
