Y&R: Discussion for the month of January

I get that Lily and Cane are annoying "heroic", blah blah blah....but at least they're not obnoxiously [!@#$%^&*] all over their apartment 24/7. I like Goddard more than Billy Miller, who is constantly chomping his way through material.

TR is adorable. He's menacing without being overtly hammy about it.

That's Pine Sol Lady wannabe to you. The writing for her is just horrible. As written, there's no way I believe Tucker would have ever hired her in the first place. With or without sleeping with her first.

Seriously.

Julia Pace Mitchell is cute but way miscast as a corporate type (not to mention the disaster that is her relationship with Faux Malcolm).

What makes it worse is Y&R didn't even try with her.

Had she not worked for Tucker she wouldn't have interacted with anyone who wasn't a Winters.

Shameful.

I guess we're supposed to believe part of Tucker's motivation in marrying Ash is because mama approves?

Eileen's obvious discomfort makes their relationship painful to watch.

It's not so much their lack of chemistry that's the problem as much as the complete & utter pointlessness of their relationship in general.

Their relationship amounts to cheating, a smashed door, anemic corporate subterfuge, an accusal of further cheating & a spur of the moment holiday proposal.

Were we ever clued in on who knocked Nina up all those years ago?

Nope.

Watch it be Victor.

OH, and WTF was that comment from Nina about---where she said there was one Christmas she and Chance could barely afford GAS? WTH? She got EVERY penny of P3's money when he "died". She went to college and became a writer on it.

Amen.

But these are the same writers that can't even be bothered to show her, Doug Davidson & their characters the tiniest bit of respect for their years of loyalty.

They show up every two weeks as filler unless Lauralee makes an appearance or Maria wants to prop her latest stunt hire.

It makes me sad that he & Jess are wasted on Lane.

They have chemistry to spare yet all it will amount to is Katherine being right, Jill being an idiot & pointless Lane drama.

It's Groundhog Day with these stunt castings. Oh look, the show is great now because Stephen Nichols is there! He's so wonderful, things can't go wrong. Oh look, the show is great now because Eden Reigel is there! She's fantastic, she can't fail. Things are getting better now because of Tristan Rogers!

I really wonder if someone at Y&R has decided that the only way to get interest in the show is to constantly try to bring in people who have rarely watched the show. That way they can get away with telling the same story over and over again, they just sucker new people.

I've heard people say well the show is good now with Tristan Rogers, and isn't he great with Jill. Yet here we are again, just another variation on the same humiliating non-stories Jill has had for years now.

Would you say Tucker/Ashley is the worst relationship she's ever had? I get the feeling that the show just slapped them together because they wanted her to be with Victor, but that whole relationship was so poorly done this time around and they want to keep throwing him from place to place. So now she's with Victucker, only she has no history with him, so it makes her decision to stay with him bizarre.

I knew I would enjoy Colin and Jill. I realize Colin is using Jill to torture Cane, but I swear I saw real interest from Colin when Jill entered the coffeehouse yesterday. I hope it's not my wishful thinking, I love when Jill is paired with a man. She has her long hair again, I remember her long hair style with John Abbott, maybe it will help keep Colin around (plus it's high time for Katherine to be wrong about something).

I'm really liking Blake too. He has a way with sarcastic humor that could make him a fun character. And is it just me, or does he become more good looking each time he appears?

I guess we're supposed to believe part of Tucker's motivation in marrying Ash is because mama approves?

I need help on this one too. Most of the time Tucker is a boring non-person, but when I do feel something, I question if it's correct. Am I missing out on a love story? Tucker seems to say the right words but the way he says them and the way he touches Ashley gives me the creeps. When he rubs, paws, and/or holds her I get such an icky gross feeling, I can't tell you why, I had it before the Diane hook-up.

I never saw Tucker(SN) in a previous role, was he a creep or a lover? Am I supposed to be seeing romance & real love between this couple, or am I feeling it right?

Well, bearing in mind the subjectivity of personal opinions, :) SN played a villain on GH -- Stefan Cassadine, in fact. Having said that, he certainly wasn't the usual mustache-twirler: he was in love with Laura Spencer and had a real fondness for his son-in-all-but-name Nikolas. He also had this borderline incestuous-flirting thing going on with Alexis. He'd play at being evil but his eyes would betray a certain pain and longing which fit in with the character's melancholic (and melodramatic) background.

On Days, Nichols played Steve Johnson who was part of a HUGELY popular pairing with Kayla Brady back in the late 80s. A bad guy with an eye-patch and merchant marine background, Steve was really just a big softie who fell head-over-heels in love with Kayla and decided to rethink his life and become "good." She was the only woman he let remove his eye-patch! Freudian psychologists, go and have a field day with that one. Oh, and the chemistry he shared with Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) was intense and romantic, I thought. SN played a very different, outspoken, passionate character on that show, and his character seemed to burn with love for his female counterpart.

I never had these thoughts. I used to watch AMC when Bianca was young, and was shocked, really shocked, when they cast her for the Heather role. Don't know the first thing about casting, but she's a Mac, she may have brought some heart to the role of Mac.

I wasn't familiar with SN, and didn't read spoilers back then so I was surprised when he suddenly appeared instead of WR last January. I didn't care for SN at all. He was stiff and uneasy from day one and he's went downhill ever since. The recast still confuses me, I thought the first Tucker was a hit, I'd love to know the reason for the change.

it's not a spoiler, but they never really developed tucker and where is this ashley relationship going...oh and he's katherine's son which has had no impact. He's been marginalized. Plus there was a preview about one half of a couple meeting his/her maker in the new year...i'm just wondering what other watcher's think.

Not having seen SN in anything other than the odd episode of Murder She Wrote...I would say Tucker is simply a guy who's always gotten a thrill out of being able to do what (or who) he wants and answering to no one. He's just not the marrying kind. So while he may "love" Ash, ultimately he will cheat with almost anyone simply because he can. Diane proved that, IMO. And I don't believe for a moment Tucker dumped Diane because screwing her proved how much Ash meant to him (as others elsewhere might argue). Diane "understood" the rules before she even got into bed. Tucker called the shots. Had it gone differently, and Diane ended up employed at McCall, something probably would have happened again.

I get the feeling Tucker likes Ash and likes the respectability she embodies.

I forgot to add how bad I felt for Neil, having Ash's latest engagement ring shoved under his nose---by his boss.

The first Tucker mostly seemed to be cast because they thought Eric Braeden might be going. When he didn't go, Tucker no longer had a purpose, and supposedly Barbara Bloom cast someone she wanted in a role. That didn't extend to actually doing anything with Tucker.

I'm sorry that I generalized - I have seen so much hype every time a fan of a popular soap actor comes to Y&R that I forget it's not always that way. Y&R is one of the worst written shows on TV, but still there's this idea that if such and such actor is there, everything will be fine. The soap press praised Eden Reigel before she was on for more than a few days, and then when she flopped, suddenly most of them, aside from SOD, went quiet.

Sadly Y&R these days has no heart. It's a shame, because Reigel might have filled that role at one time.

but she's a Mac

No she isn't.

Eden would've been just as miscast as Mackenzie as she is as Heather.

Yep.

And TPTB & their new fans don't care how much Y&R's own characters & history are destroyed in the process.

Other than her last marriage to Grambo definitely.

Those two relationships have totally drained any energy Eileen had when she returned.

She looks extremely bored & ready to leave in just about all of their scenes.

Which was something established about Tucker when he cheated on Jill.

Diane was just his next victim.

Maybe this show will remember that Paul is Daniel Godfather and now could have been a good time to bring Danny Romalatti.
