Oscars: Franco & Hathaway Hosts!

Franco seems better at this point at promotion than at performances.

<comment=shallow>He'd probably be best at pornography.</comment>

No, seriously, James seems "over" everything he does. I can only imagine how bored he'd look up there on stage waxing rhapsodic about Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson.

Anne is fine. I get the idea that she knows how to "play the game" and she knows what's expected of her, so she goes along with it. She can turn on the "decent" cuteness and ingenuity, but I betcha she's a laugh and a half after she's got some beers in her.

JF has received near universal acclaim for his performance this year, and this might be a rare case when the host wins an Oscar.

I saw 127 hours the other day, I thought Franco did amazing. I think he's no doubt going to be nominated for an Oscar. Kind of weird that he will also be hosting.

You never hear about his performances as much as you hear about his "art" and various stunts.

I don't know how you can say that when he is starring in a movie that is almost a one man show and his performance has received raves and is almost a shoe in for a nom. And why is art in quotes? Do you think he doesn't believe the things he says and does? It's possible he is a flim flam man selling an image, but selling it to who? There are very few people who will be interested in his gay themed student films, his art exhibitions or whatever they are, writings, and his drag queen cover magazines. He seems pretty legit to me, and they don't seem to be stunts because they get seen by next to nobody.

Because it seems to be more about his own ego trip (like the GH fiasco) than much else.

I don't even see that the GH thing was a fiasco. If it was a fiasco he wouldn't have come back for a second round of episodes. And I don't see how making a short film for his NYU classes or whatever he does is done to stroke his ego. He may actually be interested in all these projects honestly. An ego trip would be laughing at the very idea of doing daytime, no?

IMO I think he is. In all his interviews he seems very genuine and interested in doing everything. On GH, though the story was pretty bad, I thought JF did a great job and he seemed happy to be there. He even credited daytime (GH) for preparing him to film 127 Hours. He loves to work and is open to doing a lot of different things.

I meant the story and acting was a fiasco.

There was also a lot of speculation that he was laughing about his daytime experience, in his writeups on the show and in his performances.

whoever was speculating made no sense then. If he was making fun and laughing at his daytime experience, why would he come back?

I happened to like the acting and parts of the story. I really loved the montage with Franco talking to the camera and Lulu strapped to the bomb, and I like the visuals of the second montage with Jason on the roof while a giant Franco talks on a the wall behind.

I can't wait to see 127 Hours because I hear his performence is just absolutely amazing. I truly hope Firth gets it though. He's getting raves and he was robbed last year for A Single Man. Robbed! But yeah that would be something if the host was not only nominated, but actually won....
