Guess Jonas' was just a bus trip away, maybe 1-2 hours?

Bill created a whole ecosystem for the Jonas scenes- Gloria and Max the little person played by Billy Barty. Did they work there or just frequent the place?

And Leo the bartender moved to GC right? Don't know what became of Gloria and Max. Did the original Jonas' continue at the other location?

Bill Bell certainly never seemed "obsessed" with religious material or imagery, but he used it effectively, both symbolically and outright, especially in the show's earliest years. I'm sure we all re

Yes around Mid September 1980, Leslie surprises Jonas by renaming the “Allegro” “JONAS” (which of course became “Gina’s, around Spring 1983) and makes it almost an exact replica of wherever the other one was. She even gets Leo to come all the way from wherever the other one was located…haha.

Thanks for giving us the Max actor btw! I’m curious on who played the snooty Gloria, who tried to undermine Leslie/Pris when she sensed she started to have feelings for Jonas..

Gloria was Lindsay Bloom who later played (as a brunette) Mike Hammer's secretary Velda on the CBS series that ran a few seasons,

Lindsay Bloom also played Bonnie the chick that Ray wound up in the motel room with on Dallas when he was down on himself and wanted Donna to divorce him. Donna in a full length mink mops the floor with her. Bloom is married to actor/singer Mayf Nutter (what a name). He appeared on Knots Landing as the guy Val was going to marry when she was Verna. He also played Bobby Bigelow on The Waltons.

I just looked at a March 1980 Soap Opera Digest.

Jonas has made Leslie over into a sexy blonde and calling her Priscilla. He also has her wear a very revealing gown he has purchased which she is skeptical about wearing. He insists she put it on.

Lucas asks Casey to come over and meet his son. Casey meets Vanessa. While Lucas in the other room, Vanessa tells Casey she needs to cut ties with Lucas because he is still hung up on his wife. Casey is confused because Lucas said he wants to move forward. She wonders who is telling the truth. Later Lucas tells her how he feels and that she is the only woman who has truly cared for him.

Vanessa was one sick bitch. In an earlier synopsis she raked Leslie over the coals that it was unfair for her tie Lucas down in their marriage because she still loved Lance. She also told her Lucas needs to find someone who will love him. Then when Lucas hooks up with Casey, Vanessa is already trying to sabotage the relationship. I'm surprised she gave a damn about what Lucas did since Lance was her pet/obsession.

TUNE IN TOMORROW By Jon-Michael Reed

NEW YORK — There's a young lady out in Hollywood who's living every compulsive eater's ultimate fantasy. She's being paid for being fat and stuffing her mouth with caloric goodies .From "The-Young The Restless" pen of William Bell, who brought viewers such juicy characters as a prostitute turned nun, a rich-bitch alcoholic matron, a mastectomy patient and a concert pianist who lost her marbles, comes the delicious tale of JoAnn Curtisynski. JoAnn is an overweight waitress who turns to Jellies when her errant husband turns his attention to another, untubby woman. JoAnn vents her spleen on the dessert tray in frustration and futile retaliation whenever she feels threatened or insecure, which occurs often on the CBS soaper.

It's a plum role for a suitably endowed actress and Kay Heberle filled the bill to an 0. It was Kay's excess poundage that was instrumental In her winning the part. The producers needed an overweight and talented actress and one who was willing to gain more weight for the beginning of the storyline and then to lose drastically during the plot progression as JoAnn becomes independent of her husband and discovers the joys of slimness.

"I will not tell you what I weighed when I was cast In the role," reveals Kay in an exclusive interview in Dally TV Serials magazine. "And I prefer not to tell you' what I weigh today. But I'm dropping an average of two pounds a week. My goal is to reach 112." Viewers will not see Kay's new svelte figure tor many weeks yet, because JoAnn is still being tempted by and succumbing to tasty temptations. In the meantime, Kay is appropriately padded under her apron strings, albeit In lesser degree as the days wear on and the fat wears off.

Naturally the bulk of Kay's fan mail is from other overweight folk who plead for her diet recipe. As a doctor's daughter from Burleson, Tex., Kay is aware of the dangers of prescribing for other people. Therefore, she declines to reveal her secrets. She does, however, admit "I've been on thousands of diets in the last few years. I've simply changed my eating habits. I'm learning to cook and enjoy fresh vegetables. I drink lots of fruit juice, I don't eat too much beef, but I do like fish which is less fattening. I'm not measuring my calories, but I am taking lots of vitamins, because I want to be healthy, feel good and get slim," she emphasizes.

Until Kay reached high school, she didn't know what a weight problem was. But then there were changes in her metabolism, which didn't take shape until after she became a cheerleader and editor of the school annual. Kay traces her decline into bad eating habits around the time she became active in the Future Homemakers of America course. From North Texas State University, Kay studied acting with Lee Strasberg, topped off with a summer at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. She returned to the U.S. to enrol at UCLA where she later won both the Natalie Wood and Beulah Bondi acting awards.

The lady is loaded with talent, but it wasn't until her professional debut on "Y&R" that she considered the errors of her munching ways. "Now I'm acting, working, getting paid for it, and getting thin at the same time," says the actress who has forsaken midnight wanderings to the refrigerator.

It's paying off in other ways, too. Kay recently appeared in a UCLA student production of "The Boom-Boom Room," in which she starred as a scantily clad go-go dancer. On the serial it will take a while for Kay, or rather JoAnn, to reach that state of grace. Tune in tomorrow and behold as she skims off the lard right before your very eyes ...

That author says Jon-Michael Reed, but it sounds like something written by Rex Reed.

TV SIGNALS WEEK OF AUGUST 12.1984

Jeanne Cooper gives 'Y&R'a real lift By Nancy M. Reichardt

I used to wake up in the morning a stranger to myself," recalls Jeanne Cooper, who has portrayed the wealthy Kay Chancellor on "The Young and the Restless" for the past 10 years. "My facial muscles smarted to atrophy from wearing artificial lifts on the show for from 10 to 14 hours a day," she says. "So I took a deep breath and decided to do something for me. I decided to have a face lift."

So that she could continue working during her own recovery period, Miss Cooper suggested to her producers that her surgery be written into the story line. "The one thing I did insist on was that the storyline be done in a documentary style," she remembers. "I also think that showing my surgery on television helped to take the mystery and the fear away from one of the most artistic branches of the medical profession. It said to men and women alike that it's all right to have cosmetic surgery "

Miss Cooper says that the somewhat graphic scenes shown of her surgery intrigued the soap's viewers. "The fans were absolutely fascinated even though some of them turned away at first But they did watch it," she says. "It's been gratifying that so many thousands of people have responded to the surgery in a positive way," Miss Cooper says. "Many young people who had put off having very valid cosmetic surgery wrote that after seeing Kay's face lift, they decided to have the surgery they needed.

"We made daytime history, " adds Miss Cooper. "It was a big move on the part of CBS. Everything from the very beginning involved great teamwork, from the studio work to the production itself." she remembers, adding, "I also think we showed that most plastic surgeons aren't out there to make a fast buck. As for the surgery itself. "I went about it the right way." she says. "I checked out several surgeons before deciding on Dr. Harry AkGlassman, who was also very proud of the soap sequences'.

Dr. Harry Glassman was married to Victoria Principal. In the consultation scenes they used an actor to portray the doctor. Glassman was only show in the operating room footage.

Victoria claims to have never had cosmetic surgery, but it's clear she has had some work done over the years. That wasn't results from her Principal Secret.
