I seem to recall Selleck saying he did want a contract, but they would sign him on full time and kept him recurring.

It took years for Selleck to break out. He struggled along in guest appearances and bit parts. He was also a contract player at Universal for a decade. He continued to do commercials right up till he signed on to do Magnum. The 80's really was his decade even though he had the quintessential 1970's look.

I consider Magnum, P.I. Tom Selleck's breakthrough role and Blue Bloods his career resurgence.

They could do a story where Traci Abbott is asked to speak at a literary conference and one of the men on the panel is Jed Andrews (Tom Selleck).

Or, he could pop in - again, for a cameo or one-day role - as a former colleague of Vernon's on BTG.

Brenda seemed so natural the way she played Jill in the 70's, but by the 80's she was channeling Alexis Carrington.

I think Selleck would be up to do that. He has never been ashamed of his daytime roots. The only negative thing he ever said about being on Y&R was they never would sign him to a long term contract.

If he were to appear again on Y&R as his old character, I picture someone asking him didn't he use to work closely with author Lorie Brooks and then a quick flashback to 1974 of them in the steamy shower and then back to present day he would reply " Yes, I worked with her very closely".

I've always attributed that to two things: 1) Jill was channeling all the glamorous movie stars she used to read about as a child and how she THOUGHT they behaved; and 2) she had been so beaten down by life, suffering so much heartache - growing up poor and without a father, losing Phillip Sr, being humiliated by Kay and her efforts to invalidate her marriage and her son's paternity, etc. - that she realized, as Dolores Claiborne's employer once said, "Sometimes, being a b***h is all a woman's got to hold onto."

Brenda Dickson acting style changed sometime in 1985. For the remainder of her run, she was so extra. I can't watch any of her scenes from that time, they are painful.

A lot people joke that Brenda was using a Eurotrash accent toward the end of her run. Like Victoria Wyndham started using a British accent towards the end of her time as Rachel. I don't which was more laughable, her new acquired accent or the fact she gave birth after menopause probably came and went during the Reagan administration.
