Believe me, I always invision the miracle of Kay Alden or Ed Scott (or both) to come back as Head Writer or EP......but all wishes can't come true.....

Plus whenever I watch any of the old episodes I share with you guys, I always question whether any of the younger or non veteran current actors would find the dedication that required them to be apart of the glamour which was Bill Bell's Y&R from the first couple of decades.....there's a reason why certain actors and actresses were cast in certain roles......do we have mostly still have pretty faces as we did in the past?........yes, but what we don't have is the uniqueness and proper technique I think some actors required to be a part of Bill's Y&R......Are any of these young folks ready to lead the next generation eventually?.....who is the future Jack,Jill, Nikki,Victor,Ashley etc.....Who are the Cassandra's, Sheila's David Kimble's etc...suppose to be of this generation?.....

I feel some could if given the guidance actors had back then. From everything I have heard from Bell's Y&R, Conboy or whoever the EP was at the time, was hands on with performance and story, so was Bell and that would filter to the actors. The directors back then were also responsible for performance and guidance of the actors, not just hired hands as they seem to be now.

JFP seems more interested in budget and look of the show and the directors seem to be just doing what they are told and not really directing so much. I could be wrong but that is the impression I get.

Do we know about Y&R's current taping schedule?

Are they shooting multiple episodes or different parts to allow the show to go dark for periods of time and save money?

Whatever the case I'm sure there is way less time for rehearsals, retaping and notes from the director. Thus the lackluster performances we often see.

This isn't an article, but I own the complete series DVD box set of Barney Miller, which as a bonus includes the first season of the spinoff series Fish. So I was watching the Fish season and in one of the episodes, I noticed a pretty blond who was hanging around Phil and Bernice Fish's foster kids. I knew she looked and sounded very familiar but I just couldn't place her. Then when the credits rolled around, I noticed that the blond girl's real name was Melody Thomas.

Yes, I remember seeing them both on Charlie's Angels.

Dennis Cole who played the second Lance Prentiss on Y&R was married to Jaclyn Smith at the time appeared in several episodes. Ton Ligon who played Lucas Prentiss appeared in an episode with Dirk Benedict.

I always wondered why Bill Bell wrote Dennis Cole out. I remember reading a quote from Victoria Mallory who played Leslie saying she was shocked and he was given little notice. He and Jaclyn divorced around that time as well. I know he had problems with alcohol in real life and wonder if it affected his job at Y&R.

Yes, Tom Ligon and Dirk Benedict played cadets in the episode "The Blue Angels", the final episode of the first season of CA, and Farrah's last episode as a regular.

Speaking of Tom Ligon, here's a NY Times article about him from August 2013 (with a photo!). He and Sam Waterston were roommates in their salad days. Who knew?

    • IIRC, FC reruns aired for awhile on Lifetime, way before the network became the Women in Peril Channel, lol.
    • PAM!! YES!!! You have jogged my memory. She worked at Cedars. She's mentioned in a write-up of Tim's history in the show. It says she was a nurse, but I seem to remember she was a secretary at Cedars, working for either Ed or Sarah. (It's almost 50 years ago, so I definitely could be wrong). I'm certain she was an unwed mother. I recall reading an interview with the actress, Maureen Silliman (I looked it up, that's her correct name, LOL). She started on the show just before the Dobsons started writing it. She was shocked to get a script that said her character had been pregnant since she hit town. I remember a scene where she told Tim she was going to leave SF for a better job for her daughter's sake (really, I think she was upset he was serious about Rita). I don't remember them getting married and leaving town, but according to "Who's Who in Springfield" that's how the characters were written out. Mattson did All My Children for several years, so she might have been persuadable. Here's an interesting factoid I recently learned on these message boards: Elvera Roussel was in the running to play Delia on RH when the show first hit the air. How wild is it that Mattson played Delia for a while? (Though from what I saw of her performance, she was miscast). It's hard to know if Roussel would have been a good Delia. I would think she would have been better suited to playing Faith Coleridge, but who knows? She didn't get to show a whole lot of range as Hope.
    • If I were to do an EON reboot, I think I would start at the beginning, with Mike Karr leaving the police force in order to begin a new career as an attorney, and dealing with his wife, Sara's, crooked family.
    • I don't know if it was the writing or performance but I felt like we finally got to see the real Ted. Especially the way he talked to Martin when confronted, felt like a completely different person. He felt darker and like a total liar who was mad he got caught. I expected him to be remorseful and want to apologize to each and every family member who he came into contact with but he seemed like he didn't care. It completely changed how I view him and it makes me wonder if this is the direction they're going to take Ted in with the recast.
    • Tessa clarified a few years ago that she is gay and not bi.   I find it offensive that the show is teasing her with Daniel. Mariah told Sharon she went emotionally/mentally to a dark place, and while she was out of town on business she got drunk and did something bad.  But Mariah didn't say she cheated.  The show wants us to assume that, but she didn't say that.  She could have taken drugs or who knows what.  All we know is that she feels shame and doesn't want Tessa to know.  Mariah says the inner darkness is due to the longterm influence of Ian in the past, and she hasn't healed from that. With a *good* writer, we could have organic conflict in the Teriah marriage, without cheating.  But JG isn't a good writer.
    • Was that before his accident? I think it was. Most of us have never seen him before it happened.
    • I wonder if Falcon Crest wasn't seen as macho enough for them.  I first saw Dynasty on FX around 1994 or 1995. I think it ran for a few years, although I may be off as I moved and lost the channel for a while.
