Tom Langan was a very good EP. The show’s production values were excellent under Langan. Sets looked professional rather than made by a high school drama club. Cameras actually moved. There was ambient sound. Better lighting. Better wardrobe. Plus, his first year as head writer was great. I’d love to have him back at Days in some capacity.

I just realized that the 30th anniversary of Winter Heat nearly went by unacknowledged. In retrospect, it is kind of a pity that Days didn't get one or two more primetime specials in the '90s. Maybe they shouldn't have aired alongside the Soap Opera Digest Awards?

She was filling in for Higley. Josh Griffith was responsible for all that darkness. If not for her, I never would have gotten Matt Ashford back for those four Ghost Jack episodes.

She was also the interim head writer between JER and Sheffer (unless you believe [S.W.S.N.B.N.], who says it was her), and she did a great job wrapping up JER’s stories as well as giving Jack and Jennifer an excellent exit story and sendoff. I’d love for Beth to return to Days as Ron’s co-head writer.

Don Frabotta, Gloria Loring, Denise Alexander, ... all good suggestions, I think, but no idea what they would or wouldn't try to make happen. As for when, Doug is alive on the show as of July 11th. That was announced as his last air date. So a memorial is many many months away.

Old-school characters are likely not returning. Days can only have twelve characters per episode. Starting with his close family you have Julie, Hope, Bo, Shawn, Ciara, Ben, Claire, Eli, Lani, and Scotty. That leaves room for only two more characters in the episode and it would likely be Jennifer (Missy) and Jack.

12-20-91 Day 30 (2-7-24) Today Roman is in the Christmas spirit. So is Marlena. OG Brothers Brady in matching brown leather jackets are out doing their shopping. Carly is impatient with Mickey & wanting to bring a civil suit against Victor, including something about a sabotaged elevator. Mickey insists the criminal case against Vic must go forward first. Lawrence sidles up to Carly & he annoys her. Roman not at all a jerk & in fact he & Marlena are both teasing about secrets & wrapped packages & very loving, stopping in the middle of things to kiss passionately. John finally gets that dadgummed satchel back from the ISA & it has nothing of use in it! John is so frustrated that he is a jerk to Isabella. There's a piece of jewelry, a chain, that could have belonged to anyone. There is a picture burned around four edges only leaving the middle. It's a woman but that's all you can tell. End of day & Carly is reading "Alice in Wonderland" to ShawnD. Then she & Bo make love. Elsewhere Roman & Marlena do, too. John is outside, wandering. Izzy wants him to move in. He will only commit to a few days at a time. In the closing credits, after all the other actors have been named, it reads

with

Wayne Northrup

as

Roman Brady

and

Deidre Hall

as

Marlena Evans

This is the special billing they got when they returned to the show.
