Members Y&RWorldTurner
The Dobsons had two stints at ATWT, 1979-1981, and then again from Mid 1982 - May 1983. Were there any fundamental and noticeable differences between the two stints?
Members FrenchFan
I'm quite sure I have already read that Douglas Marland was never intended to stay on ATWT in 1979. It was a temprorary stint before the Dobsons could move to ATWT and he was shipped to GL.

Members LoyaltoAMC
Thanks for posting. I could've sworn that the whole Eddie Dorrance whodunnit with Linc, Kelly etc, and the Benny/Edna/Estelle stories had been wrapped up by the time the Cortlandts arrived on the scene. On paper, introducing a brand new family with their own story and no ties to other characters would've spelled disaster, but Agnes, Wisner and the actors really made it work. Members DRW50
I think it helped re: the Cortlandts that the Tylers seemed kind of played out by this time, and the show needed new blood. This sounds like a porn movie. Is this on Youtube? GL - I wish they'd kept Jackie working at Alan's company. Speaking of the Dobsons, it's strange that their main comic relief at GL was someone like Floyd Parker, or Katie. None of their humor at SB was in that vein. The thing I love about their GL is the complicated relationships, yet somehow, the relationships all make sense and are easy to understand. Bell Produced by: John Conboy Lorie accused Lucas of trying to kill Lance by sending him to revolutionary Santo Domingo. Derek thought Suzanne is drinking heavily and ran to tell Jill he'll always love Jill. Kay finally "appeared" in front of Brock and admitted she's pretending to be dead to uncover Suzanne's schemes. Nikki fretted that Greg doesn't want to start a family immediately once they're married. Leslie returned and Lorie realized she's concerned for Lance's welfare. Kay admitted to Brock that she's so grateful to Liz for showing her a different way of life since living "undercover” Stu thought she should give Derek his freedom to run to Jill. Nikki was so moved that Liz accepted her as a future daughter-in-law that she told Paul she couldn't see him again, even though he admitted his love. Lorie convinced Leslie to stay with Lucas so that he won't have reason to feel antagonistic toward Lance, whom both girls feared he may be dead in the banana revolution. Greg and Nikki honeymooned in their new apartment but she fretted about their finances. Lance returned safely and told Lorie and Leslie it was his idea to go to Santo Domingo, not Lucas’. Chris learned she is pregnant. Jill was ready to return to Derek’s arms until Suzanne lied that Derek planned to remarry Suzanne. Members Mitch
The ATWT thing is interesting, I always wonder what Marland wrote on ATWT...it did seem a gobbled mess when he got there. I wonder what would have happened if he would have stayed at ATWT and we avoided the mess the Dobsons made of it. It is also interesting that Marland brought back both Grant and Ralph Mitchell for short term roles and connection to Lisa a decade later when he was writing the show again. When oogly Brad Hollister is the first character you bring on, you know your tenure (the Dobsons) is going to be a mess. I also didnt know that Dee was supposed to be that young, a year later wasnt she supposed to be late 20's early 30's with the dull Schultz playing her. Members Paul Raven
In the SOD synopses of the time,it was clear that there were new writers at the time on ATWT,but GL seemed to be continuing the Dobsons stories.I expected Jennifer,Morgan and Kelly to be introduced.Either Marland didn't make any appreciable changes in his first weeks or GL was ahead in taping and it took longer for his work to air. Members DRW50
I guess Marland might not have been able to bring in anyone new when so many stories were being tied up. Did Kelly and Morgan come in before Nola? I thought she was the first, in Roger's story at the boarding house. So did Marland get rid of Lainie, or was she already going? BTW, a lot of this is at ClassicGL, and the Lassa Fever stuff mentioned for GH earlier in 1979 can be found at No2Souls.

Steve apologized to Van for his crush on her, but Joel overheard and thought they were having a relationship. Ben's trial was unresolved, although Betsy remembers the snake and collapses.
