June 18, 201015 yr Member Jerry Lacey was Simon Gilby on ATWT. I think he was involved with Lisa. He had a ward named Meredith who was involved with Tom. Somehow or other Simon and Meredith ended up together and left Oakdale. I think they were dumped when Irna Phillips returned. Wynne Miller played Jessica Buchanan on Somerset. Nancy Barrett was Kathy Ryker on The Doctors.
June 18, 201015 yr Author Member Steve has written on a folder the year end winners for a few years: Best Actor/ Best Actress/ Best Show 1971: George Reinholt, Jacqueline Courtney, Another World 1972: Edward Mallory/Bill Hayes (tie), Denise Alexander, Days of Our Lives 1973: Edward Mallory, Denise Alexander, Days of Our Lives 1974: George Reinholt, Jacqueline Courtney, Another World 1975: Tom Hallick, Janice Lynde, Young & the Restless 1976: Bill Hayes, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Days of Our Lives 1977: Bill Hayes, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Days of Our Lives He writes at the end that he could not remember the rest of the years, and could not find a list of them. He said that he also may be mixing up the year that Mallory and Hayes tied and it could have been 1973.
June 18, 201015 yr Member In some cases it was over a year, like John Karlen. Nice to see other Willie Loomis fanatics out there... That's so funny, I wonder if in that spoiler-free age they hoped their votes would lead to some wonderful random day when their favorite star would pop up again. Of course these were the days of Rosemary Prinz being stalked like a Beatle and Eileen Fulton being clobbered in Lord & Taylor.
June 18, 201015 yr Member That's a good point, SFK. And in some cases it probably worked. Gilbert, thanks for the extra information on Steve's magazines. Paul Raven thanks for filling in some of the blanks. I wish I could have seen Jerry with Eileen Fulton. So what story did Irna give Eileen when she came back? Was it that awful hysterical pregnancy stuff? Wynne Miller played Jessica Buchanan on Somerset. What was this character like?
June 18, 201015 yr Author Member One other thing Steve has written down here is that Jacqueline Courtney was the first star to achieve 100 months in the Top Ten. Despite leaving AW once and then being fired, she only fell out of the top ten once and never out of the runner's up during the first 101 consecutive polls. He said Denise Alexander was the 2nd star to achieve 100 issues in the poll. Other stars who later did it were Bill Hayes, Susan Hayes, and Deidre Hall.
June 18, 201015 yr Member Irna returned early in 72 so the phantom pregnancy story was hers. Don Hughes was involved with Lisa. He had grown close to her son Chuckie. When she believes she is pregnant, she goes to the hospital for an abortion as she doesn't want to appear to be trapping Don. She discovers from her doctor(played by Doug Marland) that she had an ovarian cyst. Rick Ryan,Jennifer's son,who wants to break up Bob & Jennifer, witnesses Lisa's ordeal and tells Jennifer that Lisa thinks Bob was the father of her child. She wrote off Simon & Meredith and married Tom & Carol in July. She also introduced the character of Kim. She killed off Paul Stewart. Apparently, she initially got the ratings up but later in the year she was fired.
June 18, 201015 yr Member Re Jessica Buchanan She was nightclub singer involved with Robert Delaney who was stuck with bitch wife India. jasper delaney was murdered. She was a suspect but Robert was charged with the crime. He was cleared,Robert divorced India and Jessica was pregnant. She married Robert but was killed in a car accident on the way to Bay City, thus clearing the way for Robert to move to Another World an eligible widower who would fall for the charms of Iris Carrington.
June 18, 201015 yr Member Thanks Paul. I wish I could see some of this. I'd especially love to see India, as I was enthralled by Marie Wallace on Dark Shadows, and Schemering called her Somerset character a "fascinating demi-goddess." All of this just reinforces how genius it was for Dan Curtis to have saved his DS stuff because there are a lot of soap actors I wouldn't even know of if not for that show. June 19, 201015 yr Member I remember someone at WoST talking about India, sounded like a great character. Didn't Tina Sloan play some sort of cold bitch on Somerset or one of those NBC shows back in the '70s? When you all started talking about India I was thinking that was Tina. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
June 19, 201015 yr Member I remember someone at WoST talking about India, sounded like a great character. Didn't Tina Sloan play some sort of cold bitch on Somerset or one of those NBC shows back in the '70s? When you all started talking about India I was thinking that was Tina. Anyone know what I'm talking about? She played a bitch named Kate. http://lavender.fortunecity.com//casino/403/somerset.html Andrea Moore, still trying to interest Julian Cannell in a romance, eventually realized Julian would never return her feelings and decided to move to Paris. Subsequntly, Andrea's seductive cousin Kate Thornton arrived in Somerset to oversee the business affairs of the Somerset Register. Kate was instantly attracted to Julian, but Julian had now fallen for Eve Lawrence. When Eve suddenly developed sexual frigidity and couldn't make love with him, Julian assumed that it was because Eve didn't really love him. Kate exploited the situation by seducing Julian with lusty sex every chance she got. While Julian and Kate were away on a business trip to Florida, Eve finally summoned the courage to tell Julian about her sexual dysfunction, but when Kate and Julian returned, Eve was devastated to learn that the two had been married. Several lives in Somerset were affected by the arrival of Ned Paisley's spoiled sister Victoria, an amoral schemer and dynamic manipulator. The primary target of "Vicky's" manipulations was Kate Cannell, whom Vicky loathed instantly. Vicky decided to steal Kate's husband Julian, who was getting close to Eve Lawrence once again. Eve, lonely and depressed about Ned's rejection, drowned her sorrows in alcohol and constantly cried on Julian's shoulder. Vicky convinced brother Ned that Eve really did love him. Meanwhile, Eve was preparing to leave Somerset forever. Ned and Heather began a frantic race- against- the- clock to reach the airport on time and stop Eve from leaving. They arrived just as Eve's plane was ready to taxi down the runway. Ned stopped the plane and begged a flabbergasted Eve to marry him. She agreed, and the two wed in a lavish ceremony at Ned's country estate Charlevoix. Meanwhile, Kate accidentally got pregnant. Already fearful of losing Julian to Eve, Kate decided to get an abortion rather than risk not being able to keep Julian happy with lusty sex. With the assistance of fellow schemer attorney Tom Conway, Kate underwent an abortion in New York City then told a devastated Julian that she'd miscarried while worrying about whether or not he was having an affair with Eve! Guilty, Julian decided to indulge Kate's every whim. Unfortunately for Kate, Vicky wasn't impressed with Kate's "loss". Vicky had seen Tom and Kate having a tete-a-tete at the airport, and she soon discovered the truth about Kate's trip. Vicky told Julian, who had a violent altercation with Tom and got him to confess the truth. Furious, Julian railed at Kate for all of her deceptions and vowed to get a divorce. He ran back to Eve, but she no longer felt any love for him. Ned, now assured of Eve's devotion, whisked his bride away to a happy new life on the island of St. Thomas. Vicky gained control of Paisley Department Store and happily planned to finally get her hooks into the despondent Julian. Kate Cannell, having lost husband Julian after her abortion was exposed, sought revenge on Julian by firing him at the Register. Kate appointed young Greg Mercer to the editor's position, incurring Carrie Wheeler's jealousy. However, the anger against Julian and problems at the newspaper slowly built until the pressure was too much for Kate to bear, and she slashed her wrists in a suicide attempt. Dr. Terri Kurtz, Kate's psychiatrist, recommended commitment, and Julian agreed. With Kate out of the way, the Somerset Register was soon purchased by Dan Brisken, the wealthy son of Sarah Brisken. Dan restored Julian to the editor's position, while Greg happily investigated a series of deadly fires that plagued the Treemont section of Somerset.
June 19, 201015 yr Member Thanks Carl. Wasn't Vicky also played by a familiar daytime face? I guess I could look it up.
June 19, 201015 yr Member *Veleka Gray Reading that cast list I also noticed that two former Dorians were on the show, originator, the late Nancy Pinkerton, and temp for Strasser, Ellen Barber.
June 19, 201015 yr Member I think Eve was played by Audrey Landers, right? Or am I thinking of someone else? I still want to see that Jingles the Clown story. It drives me nuts not seeing that story, as it sounds so good.
June 19, 201015 yr Member Ah yes, I've read about that... the idea that nobody could give an accurate description of the criminal... "Uhhhh, he was a clown. "
