A few from Dark Shadows:

If Kathryn Leigh Scott had not left Dark Shadows, they would have cast her as Samantha Collins

If Roger Davis had not left, they would have cast him as Desmond Collins

If Don Briscoe had not left, they would have cast him as Randall Drew

Ryan's Hope

Pauline Flanagan was an early Maeve candidate when first casting the show

Bernard Barrow originally auditioned for Seneca

Tom McGreevy auditioned to be a Frank recast. They liked him and created the role of Tom Desmond just for him.

Kathleen Tolan auditioned for Siobhan and was cast as a Mary replacement instead. KT was brought in by Helen Gallagher. They had done a play together and Helen thought she'd make a good Siobhan.

John Sanderford originally auditioned for Dakota.

OLTL -

Audrey Landers (ex-Charlotte Hesser) auditioned to play Tina after Andrea Evans left in 1990, but lost the role to Karen Witter.

Sarah Buxton auditioned to play Tina in 2001 when the show lured back Fiona Hutchinson to play Gabrielle, but nothing came of it.

Brian Frons himself teased in an interview that the brass had tossed around the idea of Cynthia Preston playing Tina after she left GH.

Krista Tesreau was initially considered for Blair or Tina, they went with the latter and gave the former to Kassie DePaiva.

Bree Williamson auditioned to play Jennifer Rappaport, but lost to Jessica Morris.

Trevor St. John auditioned to play Kevin, but lost to Dan Gauthier.

Michael Easton was offered the role of Todd after Roger Howarth left, but declined.

Robin Strasser was considered for a recast of Cathy Craig after Jennifer Harmon left.

Marc Menard and Dax Griffin both auditioned for the role Joey Buchanan.

Dax Griffin and Michael Bergen auditioned for the role of Nash Brennan, but lost to Forbes March.

Troy Kurtis (ex-Nico Castaneda, GL) auditioned for the role of Cristian Vega, but lost to David Fumero.

Eamonn Walker (Kareem Said, Oz) auditioned for the role of RJ Gannon, but lost to Timothy Stickney.

Marc Menard as Joey? No no no no no, that's worse than Bruce Michael Hall.

Krista as Blair, wow, that they'd even consider that given her closer physical resemblance to a Tina.

Trevor St. John has always reminded me of another Kevin, Jack Armstrong, so I could see that.

Eamonn could have been a tremendous actor on a soap (Oz was basically a soap and his theatrical gorgeousness helped power that show for years), although I'm glad Tim got that role. Too bad he wasn't cast in another role. I didn't even know he ever tried out for soaps.

Anyone else think Bree would have been a better Jen than she is as Jessica? She's OK as Jessica but I think that she would have fit Jen better, the main problem with Jen for years was a dull actress. I think she also would have worked well as mother/daughter with Cat Hickland.

Audrey and Sarah both would have been decent Tinas, not fantastic, but decent. I'd like to have seen Audrey in a bitchier and less vapid role; there was some stuff after Carlo died and Charlotte kept lobbing verbal grenades at Alex in a very smirky Tina-esque manner.

I think I read that when Bree auditioned for Jen, Erin Torpey was playing Jessica and the producers thought Bree and Erin looked too much alike. But I wonder if ET wasn't on the show, if Bree would have gotten it. I just never saw the appeal in Jessica Morris. She was pretty but she lacked charisma.

Beyond the coloring and their at times similar hairstyles, it's something about the roundness of the eyes and their heads, hard for me to put a finger on. Whatever it is, I sensed it the moment I saw Bree for the first time yet not at all with Erin's temp Maggie Andersson. I dunno.

Also read in Ellen Holly's book that Morgan Freeman and Clevon Little auditioned to play Carla's love interest, Dr. Jack Scott. She really wanted Morgan Freeman for the role, but the show went with Arthur Burghardt who—according to her—was a real dick.

    • Heffa? Girl, bye? MONA!!!!!!!!!!! I'm rolling.
    • It was just inexcusable. SMH. I'm surprised Lisa Brown didn't change it somehow.
    • So many things would have had to be different for Mary to want to go back to Reginald. It could have been interesting if it had been handled completely differently but as it was we had a very black and white Mary good/Reginald bad. If she had been able to ignore his worldly crimes and how he treated his own children there was still the fact that he had separated her from her children. Maybe if they had shown us more intimacy and affection between them and had allowed him to have real vulnerabilities it could have worked but as it played out they didn't do much to present him with any sympathetic hook. There are a lot of ways to define wanting things to work. Fans are mostly thinking of preserving or restoring characters and an atmosphere that drew them to the show. The sponsor may only be thinking of the bottom line. When a producer or HW comes in and decides that their vision will deliver for the bottom line and they need to fire most of the cast in order to do it it can feel very much like not caring.
    • I remember this getting a lot of criticism at the time.
    • Maeve breaks me reading that letter. If you ever need to cry, look it up. Other than the dopey line about Henry wanting to come home to Van's rice (or tapioca) pudding (VANESSA CHAMBERLAIN DOES NOT COOK, Y'all...) it's a sweet sign-off to one of the best father/daughter relationships on soaps. Other than Ross, and Bill (if he says something, which I assume he does) and the letter, the rest of it is BS. I haven't watched it in a while, but it typifies what I dislike most about events that should be laden in history. The writers are too lazy to do the work and get it right. And it becomes about making sure characters X, Y and Z make their guarantees. Roger being there is an abomination. Henry never ever saw Nola as a gold-digger. She and Quint were practically engaged before he even knew Quint was his son. Before that, he was fairly close to Bea and enjoyed Nola's spirit. And Henry never helped Rick become an Eagle Scout.  I get that maybe you don't want to play Amanda#1 or Dinahs 1&2, or Billy, Trish or Alan #1 clips, but damn it....don't make stuff up. I'd have much rather watched clips from Henry, Vanessa and Ross' early days than Rick blather on, or nuMichelle try and dig for a human-like emotion or wonder why after TEN YEARS, Dinah and Quint have never met.   Do not remember anyone named Tina. I barely remember Dahlia, and that's mostly because for a while, I saw Sharon Leal in everything after she left GL.   Reva and Josh airhogs? ALWAYS, darling. ALWAYS. RME. I hate to tar and feather Robert Newman with that brush, but DAMN.
    • Oooooooooooooo a Jazmen script off of a Sara Bibel breakdown.    I'm intrigued. Lol. Yeah, one thing I can say for sure...when SilkPress is about to have a crazy moment, they do give her music.
    • I am so happy now. Reminds me of the 80s show I loved. Ron really did the cast and fans dirty. The only people complaining are those who only knew Ron and his whiplash plot driven stories

    • Source for this? Especially since Benz was already on AMC as Linda Connor.
