“MY GENERATION”

What a difference ten years can make. In 2000, a documentary crew follows a disparate group of high schoolers from Greenbelt High School in Austin, TX as they prepare for graduation, then revisits these former classmates ten years later as they return home to rediscover that just because they’re not where they planned doesn’t mean they’re not right where they need to be. These students couldn't wait to graduate and head out into the real world. But the world they were entering got very real very fast. As these classmates return home to revisit their old hopes for their future, they'll discover that, even if you don't get exactly what you thought you wanted out of life, it’s not too late to get what you need. “My Generation” stars Michael Stahl David as Steven, Kelli Garner as Dawn, Jaime King as Jacqueline, Keir O’Donnell as Kenneth, Sebastian Sozzi as Falcon, Mechad Brooks as Rolly, Anne Son as Caroline, Daniella Alonso as Brenda and Julian Morris as Anders. “My Generation” was created and written by Noah Hawley (“The Unusuals,” “Bones”), who is also an executive producer, along with Warren Littlefield, Henrik Bastin, Patrick Magnasson and Martin Piersson. Craig Gillespie directed the pilot. The project is from ABC Studios.

I loved it! After one episode I'm already invested in these people's lives. I felt a lot of connection to this show - I'm the same age as them, the music, the events of this past decades, characters going through some of the same things my friends and I are going though. Poor Kenneth, who wanted a big family but can't have kids - that scene at the end when Dawn put that baby thing on him and he almost starts crying was so sad....and then it turned to joy when Dawn wanted Kenneth to be baby's uncle. Great scene! Oh and Kenneth walking in on Dawn was hilarious. I really liked Brenda too and Caroline .

I thought it was poor as well. I never intended to watch it, but I decided to give it a chance after a certain poster (SYLPH) suggested that I watch stuff before writing it off. It was okaaaaay, but eh. I feel like I've seen it all before, and the dialogue was kinda indulgent, no? I mean, how many times did "Back in high school" and "...from high school?" need to be in the script?

Oh, and I HATED HATED HATED the labeling. I hate it when any high school show/movie does this. Having the film crew label the kids wasn't horrible, but when some of the labels actually showed up in the dialogue, I just couldn't stop rolling my eyes. "You mean THE JOCK!?"

It did feel weird watching a show wax nostalgic about an era that I was actually alive for. I'm used to 50s/60s/70s/80s flashbacks, but damn, when "The Thong Song" is used to solicit reminiscing, even my ass is starting to feel old.

lol, i had a lot more to that post but idk what happened to it

Anyways, i wanted to love this show and i didnt think the docu style would bother me, however it looks awful. Like, have they not seen reality shows since 2005? They actually look decent. And all the shots through the crowds were annoying. I wish it looked as good as The Hills, but whatever.

The pilot was very slow and rather boring, even tho a lot happened. at some point i felt like too much was going on. with th 9 characters, trying to figure out their past relationships and current relationships was a lot. And how is it they all dont know about echother if they are all friends with someone in the group and all are being filmed, are none of them facebook friends?

normally this stuff wouldnt bother me but if they are going for a reality show, it needs to feel real.

I had no idea you were 4 years older than me! I always thought we were the same age.

This, too. I had the same problem with this show that I have with a lotta pseudo-soaps from the last couple of years...they push all of the characters and storylines on us at the very beginning with no time for us to actually get a good read on the whole thing. That's what turned me off of nuMP. And now that I think about it...this show is basically a less-MP version of nuMP.

Even if people were friends back then, people lose touch. Being friends on Facebook doesn't mean you know stuff about their lives. A lot of people just add/accept each other because they knew each other, but they don't necessarily talk.

Anyway, the show won't last. :(

I have this weird thing where I'm reticent about getting into ANY new show these days, but I did watch this with one eye last night and I admit that my head snapped up a few times when something caught my attention. What annoyed the [!@#$%^&*] outta me though is the overuse and abuse of faux-naturalistic speech. There is just nothing worse than actors trying to sound "real" and failing. The infertile dude (btw, I totally thought he was going to be HIV+) was giving me Spinelli vibes.

    • I am loathe to gatekeep but why is the new pope being chosen posted here? RIP In Memoriam thread is for those who have died. RIP literally means Rest In Peace, although some use it to mean Rest in Power. Either way the issue is death.

    • If Brad was writing BTG, Hayley would be pregnant and not know if it's Bill or Ted's (from a one night thing) by now.
    • I typed “Josh Griffith sucks” into Chat GPT and this is what I got lol: You’re definitely not alone in feeling that way—many longtime fans of The Young and the Restless have voiced similar frustrations with Josh Griffith’s writing. Common complaints include:   Boring and repetitive storylines, especially corporate and legal drama that lack emotional depth. Underutilization of legacy characters, with beloved veterans often sidelined. Inconsistent character development, where actions and relationships feel out of sync with established histories. Too many dream sequences or filler episodes that fans see as lazy or cost-cutting. These issues have led to frequent calls online for CBS to replace him, especially from fans who remember the more emotionally rich and character-driven storytelling from earlier eras of the show.
    • I don't see Hayley being the Dupree family mattress.
    • This show has become utterly unwatchable. I can't bear watching Liam's storyline. This is like making me watch gore or something really off-putting and depressing. And it's not about cancer. I am not opposed to storylines that deal with cancer - I've lost my grandmother to brain cancer. It's the way they are doing it. It's so in your face, without any nuance in the dialogue. It's like Bradley is saying - No... here. CRY! CRY! You have to! Otherwise you are not a good human being.  Liam is so done. I'm sorry to say it. This character is dead at this point. And not from cancer, but from BAD WRITING!
    • I think Vernon has more dignity and morals than Eric Forrester lol.
