I'm glad to hear Calliope is back, she was a real hoot and was such in a lively character in the same vain as Vivian, Anna, Savannah Wilder etc.

I know he came back with android who looked like Calliope but his and Calliope's 1989/90 exit is rather a blur, lost in the huge cast turnovers in that time.

i was thinking of quitting watching after Alice's funeral. i thought that would be a way to go. cause im not liking Melanie/Daniel/Teen show never have liked Chloe and i dont see any of them leaving soon so i figure ending it after Alice's memorial would be nice. especially since i have a feeling we will never see Marlena back.

but on a side note i would enjoy Marlena and John splitting up off screen her returning and having a fling with Bill Horton off screen and her and him getting together making her a REAL HORTON...that was always my dream lol

Heh Savannah was pretty much a pre-Kristen in hatred for Marlena wasn't she? I believe she went around calling her "St. Marlena" and other snide insults and was pretty much unsympathetic to Marlena's various troubles ie. Stefano, Richard Cates, John/Roman, kidnapping etc.

The problem with Carrie is that the character cannot stand alone without Austin and Sami in a triangle. The storyline with Mike just cemented it as both of them were ousted soon after. Carrie and Austin were very much of JER's era, nothing wrong with that by the way, the Carrie/Austin/Sami triangle drove story for nearly a decade and deliciously so.

But they had their moment in the sun, Carrie and Austin ended up happily ever after and with that, they were gone. Happy couples only last for so long on soaps before they get stale and need to be broken up. It's clear to me that many fans aren't interested in Carrie and Austin if they aren't a unit so there is absolutely no point.

I'm not a big fan of Sami either, but she is at least a character who can drive storyline...Carrie is not capable of that, especially as Sami has evolved into the 'good heroine role' that Carrie used to occupy. That's the problem with Carrie, the character never evolved. When a character starts off as a good girl, there's really not too much that could be done with her except have her turn bad and so many fans would hate that, so they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Carrie was the Marlena of Generation X. She could have blossomed into that role had she remained on the show. The problem with Days, and most soaps in general, is that they don't want to invest in a traditional "saintly" heroine unless it's a matriarch role like Maggie Horton.

I do agree with most of your assessment, and it's better that Carrie and Austin came back for 10 months and got a happy ending than never re-appear at all (I hated Mike so I was upset when she left town with him in 1999). Better to be off-screen and happy than on-screen and torn apart.

That being said, if they can bring back random characters like Anna and Calliope for short stints, it would be nice to bring Carrie and Austin back for a handful of episodes just to check in on them. Maybe they will return for Alice's funeral and Carrie will be pregnant with Austin's child. That would be nice. OLTL brought Marcie and Michael back for two episodes to show them have their baby. It would be a treat for fans.

BTW, here's a quote from Christie's official blog, posted March 6:

"A lot of folks have been asking me on facebook and this website if Carrie and Austin are coming back. All I know is that Mr. Peck was talking to Days after he left ATWT, but I haven't heard the word from Cordays people yet. You will be the first to know if I do. It would be great to be back on Days, now that there is some real passion behind the scenes."
