Yeah... I wish they wrote them off. :) And they will.

Depending on how long the show goes, I see Kay going the route of Alice Horton or Kate Martin or Myrtle Fargate or Palmer Courtland or...

In other words, they'll sort of dwindle away when they become too feeble, and then die off screen.

I doubt, though, that Y&R will survive that long.

For Jill, Nikki, Paul...all the marginalized characters...I expect to see continued underuse, and then one of these contract dramas (like we saw for Walton/Scott/Braeden in the last year) to go the other way, and the character disappears.

When they do that, I'd rather they didn't recast (Mel Harris! Kelly McGillis!). I'd rather the characters just left to be with family out of town.

I think JC will probably retire relatively soon. I'll miss her when she goes, but I think Y&R will still be around when she leaves. It won't be the same though.

Or that. Which is how it'll happen probably. And is equally offensive. You know, Jill is just a nobody, who cares if we sneakily write her off, gradually, these dumb, needy fans won't notice. That's their creed.

So, actually, they've already been written off, just not directly not to p!ss off the fans right now.

This regime has no courage, or anything resembling that, they keep promising and not keeping the promises or they just avoid saying anything, directly or indirectly, it's all very cowardly. But then again, nothing new there.

I don't see that at ALL. I totally see her as a die-with-boots-on kind of woman.

She brought her sister to live with her, and in a recent interview (I think with Deanna Barnett) said she underestimated how hard that would be. So I imagine she'd keep working, just to get some peace from her home situation, LOL.

YES!!!

In record fashion, that's basically what they did with Thom Bierdz too.

Wrote him in. Quickly realized an oops. So they let him fade to the background, so when a ridiculous story came along at contract time (Australian cattle rustlers????), he left and nobody missed him.

They are doing this with half the cast.

Somewhat surprisingly, for a new hire, they already seem to be doing it with Malcolm. Weak introduction...and already he's showing up only twice a month and then to serve sandwiches. A farce!

Well, I'm trying not to be morbid here, but when I say that she'll retire, I'm not necessarily saying it will be her choice or that she'll be as health as she is now when that happens. She's what 83? At that age, any day can be your last.

And Beth Maitland & Tricia Cast.

To Jeanne's credit she's stronger than poor Frances Reid & Helen Wagner.

We can only hope.

Knowing this regime, they'll have Victor seduce her.

& CKLily will be down for it especially after the Cattle Mafia comes to town. We know she doesn't like being alone.

I hope when Victor wins the ratings hit rock bottome. Everytime they sweep under the rug every bad thing he did I hope the ratings just go down under his victories.

Here's an unpopular opinion: I wish this regime just plainly wrote Jill off this show. It's painful to watch this trainwreck. And offensive at the same time (then again, what isn't right now?).

And they can do it with Granny Cooper, too.

They hide behind Katherine. Their hatred for older women is masked because people can say they sure love Katherine, and her five minute romance with day player Murphy.

At this point Jill, like Nikki, is gone anyway, aside from these caricatures who pop up to be degraded, but if this gets Jess Walton more money to help her pursue other opportunities until the show finally does write her out, then I'm glad she's staying.

I don't think it was an "oops." This show does not do "oops." How long did Tyra stink up the show with her googly eyes and dead line readings before she left? Wasn't it a year or more?

I think Phillip stayed for the amount of time they planned all along. Nothing about that story seemed curtailed to me. They rushed through the main part of the story, his return and his coming out, then they brought Chance in to prop Billy and prop Chloe, and that was all they needed Phillip for. MAB got to pat herself on the back for her great gay storyline, and most importantly, Cane got to look like the good guy.

You'll be surprised here, but the reasoned side of me actually suspects what you write is correct. Especially because the 6-month "contract" was so heavily discussed...over and over.

The thought that this legacy story was reversed FOR NO GOOD REASON (beyond what you state) is intolerable. It's literally a truth I cannot acknowledge, because it bespeaks a cynical, creative rot that is just intolerable.
