February 2, 201015 yr Author Member Who got snubbed? http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_goldderby/2010/02/oscars-academy-awards-nominations-snubs-news.html
February 2, 201015 yr Member Lovely list. http://www.oscars.org/awards/academyawards/82/nominees.html
February 2, 201015 yr Author Member Pretty pictures. Maggie G is starting to look like Kathleen Turner. How Penelope Cruz gets all this attention I don't know. Was she the best part of Nine?
February 2, 201015 yr Member I am so glad that Avatar did not get a screenplay nom! So glad! I wonder who will win. For original, either the Coens or Tarantino, and for adapted, I think it will be Up in the Air. None of the adapted screenplay movies attract me. Perhaps Fletcher should win? I don't know. Funny how they put them on the bottom of the page. Another horrifying thing is that Horner will probably win for the Avatar soundtrack.
February 2, 201015 yr Member How Penelope Cruz gets all this attention I don't know. Was she the best part of Nine? Do you like Pedro Almodóvar?
February 2, 201015 yr Author Member I haven't seen any of movies since those he made in the '80s. Not because I dislike him, I guess I'm just not interested enough.
February 2, 201015 yr Member I haven't seen any of movies since those he made in the '80s. Not because I dislike him, I guess I'm just not interested enough. That is funny. Because they are very artistic, soapy, melodramatic, kitsch and campy with complex narratives and I believe he would be able to write a full-fledged, bombastic TV soap opera.
February 2, 201015 yr Member I didn't see as many movies this past year as I usually do (having tripped over a log and breaking my right wrist last summer, hence hospital bills to pay for having a steel plate inserted), but overall I'm pleased. I'm especially glad to see The Hurt Locker, An Education, Precious and Up in the Air included in several categories. I do have to question whether The Blind Side was that good a film. It looked from the commercials like a run-of-the-mill Lifetime movie.
February 2, 201015 yr Member Penolpe? Maggie? The eff?! They are so underwhelming, IMHO. They are not awful or even bad, but they are far from great.
February 2, 201015 yr Member The one good thing about this list is that, on the acting side, there is a lot of emerging talent very likely to win. I mean, amid all the Clooneys and Bullocks and Streeps (seriously, how often can George Clooney get nominated?), we have Gaby Sidibe and Mo'Nique who I think will sweep their respective categories. There is also Christopher Waltz, a complete unknown outside Germany and Austria. I hope Kathryn Bigelow wins Best Director. Haven't seem The Hurt Locker, I just like her. And Avatar will win something. Hollywood rewards the films that make it financially. Remember Titanic? Oh, and I want to see A Single Man so badly. Edited February 2, 201015 yr by Cat
February 2, 201015 yr Author Member I'm surprised they didn't manage to nominate Clint Eastwood again. Kathryn used to direct for Homicide and Oz, didn't she? Oz in particular had a lot of strong directors.
February 2, 201015 yr Member Holy [!@#$%^&*], Batman. Mo'Nique "Nikki Parker/Heeeeeey Boo!" (no last name) is an Academy Award nominee. I'm impressed. Precious was great.
February 2, 201015 yr Member YAY for Carey Mulligan getting a nom! Happy for The Hurt Locker and Kathryn Bigelow, too!
