Plastic Surgery of the Soap Stars

All I can say to that is the following: ridiculous and insulting to anyone whose dealt with vision problems. An ocular surgery doesn't stretch one's face as tight as a drum or result in denture like veneers. If LC was actually using that excuse then shame on her. What I liked about LC's looks was that she wasn't typical soap opera glamorous. She looked a little rough, she looked like a hospital doctor!

Exactly. She'll start making changes on her face and then she'll look artificial and the work will really dry up.

Which brings me to Exhibit B. She's trying to look so much older than she actually is and not just older, but harder and more mature. She should embrace the fact that she has a cute look to her, she'll never be a convincing sexy vixen, so she should stop now while she's still ahead.

That's just what I was going to say. No woman in Hollywood should be in any rush to age herself and burn out her career. You ride that Disney/TeenNick train until it won't ride no more. You exhaust every possibility to play younger if you can pass for it (which she can). When you no longer can or the industry in so many words tells you it's time to grow up, that's when you hit them with the big "sexy" transformation into adulthood. And even then, what was the rush? We've seen Britney and Miley both do this, and they of course won press at the time, but ultimately, how has it really helped their careers? Honestly, stretching out the girl on the verge of sexy womanhood (it's sick, but this is the industry) thing for a couple more years wouldn't have been an awful idea. Who knows where Lindsay would be today if there was some healthy pressure to stay fresh-faced and squeaky clean for a little while younger. It's cliche to the max, but this industry will chew women up and spit them out because there'a a long line of replacements steady waiting in the wings.

Watching them try to be sexy/look older gives me Toddlers in Tiara vibes.

And I guess neither of them realize that the majority of teen dramas feature older actors playing young with a couple of actual teens thrown in there. I mean not that young people really care that their favorite characters are played by 25 year olds. I'd just think as actors they'd notice that. And there are plenty of 20 somethings messing with botox to try and look younger so obviously youth is a commodity.

    • I caught most of the episodes during that time period.   Subsequently Bell or Alden (I forget which) revealed that Peggy's rape story was done for strategic ratings purposes.  Chris's rape had occurred earlier, before the show really caught on & was near the middle or the lower end of the ratings.  Bell had been pleased with the concept and wanted the rape story to play-out for a much larger audience.  By the 1975-1976 season, the show was near the top of the ratings and was extremely popular among high school & college kids.  He felt the time was right to re-tell the story.   When I was watching in 1976, I didn't find it especially "cruel" that lightning had struck twice in the Brooks family.  I felt it was more of a continuation of Chris's storyline, giving her a chance to continue dealing with the trauma of her own rape.
    • Dan being de facto HW explains a lot. It's clear the show changed direction on a dime according to his interests or whims.
    • Really enjoyed today's episode the whole way through. Having Drew and Nina as red carpet hosts was a brilliant move. You could really see Cameron Mathison channeling his own experiences as a TV host for shows like Entertainment Tonight, but putting a more sinister spin on the host's glib patter. And Cynthia Watros gave some amazing reaction shots during Drew's interactions with people like Carly, Joss, and Willow.  I also really liked the Alexis/Kristina scenes. I know a lot of us find Kristina exasperating, and she is, but Kate Mansi and Nancy Lee Grahn do a great job of portraying a very real dysfunctional mother/daughter dynamic.
    • The episode she got killed off in - which made Wendy a prime suspect in her murder (her car was spotted outside the house) and then Wendy mysteriously disappeared from town.

    • What Dan Curtis never seemed to understand -- and what Art Wallace knew from the get-go -- is that a slow, suspenseful build-up creates a far more satisfying episode than the constant "cliffhangers" that never amounted to much.  ("I'm going to kiillll you, Julia!" before every commercial break, lol.)

    • Watch and form your own point of view; even in its flaws, this soap is soaping.
    • The show is excellent in my opinion.  There are a couple of less-than-stellar actors and a couple of bad storylines, but otherwise it's awesome and I watch many of the episodes twice.  However, episode #55 from May 19 was really bad, which is where you popped into the thread, but it was the *first* really bad episode.  So 54 great episodes out of a total of 55 episodes is pretty good, in my opinion!  I haven't seen today (#56) yet, but I hear it's good.  Will watch in a couple of hours.
