I almost hate to ask, but has anyone looked up if this is a real disease? Lol

Yes, I have Googled malignant erythrotosis and it doesn't exist. The writers might have meant erythrocytosis, which is a red blood cell disorder that doesn't appear fatal. Most likely, though, they just made it up.

Hahah oh well, I guess even in the show it's meant to be a "brand new" disease, but... (was it OLTL that in the 80s even created a brand new blood type?)
