March 3, 201016 yr Member Why does Leah Laiman constantly get hired to soaps? Has she ever had a really well regarded run?
March 3, 201016 yr Author Member When I think of how awful the show was during Black and Stern, Jessica Kleine, Leah Laiman, most of Sheffer's run, and now, this era doesn't seem too bad in comparison. I don't think it was as damaging as those eras, even with some ridiculous mistakes. So how much of a role in their awfulness did the p*rn thing have?

I don't think it was as damaging as those eras, even with some ridiculous mistakes. I know what you mean. I didn't think Laiman's era was that bad, just dull (I think that her era made some important decisions -- creating Rose, the fun story where Katie started plotting Molly's doom at WOAK). I also liked the Camille/John friendship, and the Carly/Jack lie bet (if she came up with Winston Lowe than that's a black mark though). The one story of that era I did loathe was what they did to Andy, which was just awful. I was just trying to say why at the time a number of viewers were not happy. Looking back now, especially when I think about Sheffer's era, or Passanante, these years aren't too bad. I put more blame on FMB and MADD than I do on Broderick, as even with some odd decisions (Lucinda marrying John??), and way too many new characters, I think Broderick did at least try to use the vets and some of her longterm stories were decent. I just wonder what was going on backstage at the time. Liz Hubbard apparently doesn't mind being backburnered for a decade, so it must have been something if she would up and quit like that.
March 3, 201016 yr Author Member I'd love to read an interview with Broderick where she talks as in depth as Wisner has (but she probably wouldn't till she left AMC and decided she'd never work in soaps again)--because of the AMC stuff of course, but I think I'd be even more curious to hear how SHE viewed her time at ATWT--and even more so exactly how the cowriting OLTL with camptastic Chris Whitesall under even campier producer Gary Tomlin worked for her... (she did do baby switch stories on ATWT and OLTL it should be pointed out--and I suppose at AMC too with the Erica kidnapping) I hope it happens, but it will occur only if and when she gets fired from AMC. And I can see that as a real possibility with Kreizman in charge (I don't think Swajeski would fire her, but Kreizman would, he definitely would, especially if he sees her as a 'threat' to his 'authority').

March 3, 201016 yr Member So how much of a role in their awfulness did the p*rn thing have? LOL you mean Playboy Channel's "soap" Eden? (it's an unfair world where you can get that on DVD but you can't find even a trace of Douglas Marland's cable soap New Day in Eden... )
March 3, 201016 yr Member I'm still waiting to find out where Kirk and Sam went. *cough*Lucinda's doorstep on the last show*cough* Edited March 3, 201016 yr by DeeeDee

(it's an unfair world where you can get that on DVD but you can't find even a trace of Douglas Marland's cable soap New Day in Eden... ) LOL! You have to look at Amazon.com comments ("Yummy!")! ATWT basically buried their career, IMDB has nothing for them after the soap. All I know is that whenever someone comments on how awful their regime was, the p*rn soap has to be mentioned!

While they have a say, I don't think the head writer post possesses that much authority (as in "firing") anymore. It would more likely be a call made by Carruthers or Frons. Let's hope Broderick is even planning to stay on as AHW... If she is, I don't think she's interested in a power-struggle with Kreizman or Swajeski. If (a big IF, because she's not a huge talker) we ever do get to hear her take on her experiences, I think it would be post-AMC's existence, anyway. Edited March 3, 201016 yr by YurSoakinginit

It's just... If he 'senses' that she gets a whole lot more respect, as things should be, and that it somehow 'undermines' him and his standing... If he thinks that's an impediment to him achieving some kind of... Status? Then he will find a way... I bet in the first weeks he'll be all smileys and will keep talking how it's such a huuuuge honour to be working with her, she is his idol, but secretly...

I don't know Kreizman that well (except for certain long ago incidents that made it REALLY surprising for me to see him get married - but that's another show!) ... Is he generally perceived as that insecure and conniving? You make it sound like McTavish when she talks about Agnes Nixon! Edited March 3, 201016 yr by YurSoakinginit
March 3, 201016 yr Author Member He already worked with her, so they are familiar with one another. Well, that didn't last long!
March 3, 201016 yr Member He already worked with her, so they are familiar with one another. I thought the same thing. I also think he and Swajeski must realize that the identity, story-layout, and tone of the show is deliberately being positioned before they arrive; that there's an expectation they continue with that path in mind. I believe ABC is looking for harmonious situation with the writing team, and that the acrimonious days of Pratt and McT have worn out their welcome.
