Members Paul Raven
April 1967. Selmur Productions (producers of GH) and UK based production company Intertel have made a deal with ABC on 'Palmer's Girl' to be produced at Intertel's Wembley studio with a budget around $2.000;000 for a minimum 39 week five day a week run.Show is based around a London model agency and fashion house. Article states production was due to start in August but ABC had yet to announce a timeslot. Another mystery project. Variety never did a follow up on why the show was scrapped. Members Paul Raven
1965 CBS considers dropping it's 10.00 morning news program. Among the candidates a P&G soaper All My Children. I knew Agnes had written the bible for AMC but never realized it got that close to making it to air. Later that same year AMC was pitched to NBC. Members SFK
It's amazing to think how differently things could have been, how various cast members would have been unavailable at the time. Maybe Robin Strasser would have been Erica Kane.

Members Paul Raven
1973 NBC has a daytime version of Ben Casey in development.Clare Simpson was daytime head at the time.Lin Bolen replaced her,so the Ben Casey proposal was probably dropped as Bolen had very strong ideas about what she wanted. Members DRW50
5/7/85 Digest Loretta Young was reportedly to be paid $175,000 for the pilot of Dark Mansions, and $50,000 per episode for the first 13 episodes, similar to what Linda Evans and Joan Collins made on Dynasty. They also said ABC had decided to bump Dark Mansions to early 1986, so they could have an easier time launching The Colbys. Although Young's contract said she could limit the amount of days she worked, she told Aaron Spelling she would work as hard as possible to get the show started. Members Paul Raven
Loretta pulled out for some reason(and walked away with the money I'm sure) and Joan Fontaine took over. Maybe the lack of success of the Colby's had ABC reassessing another primetime soap. Also, they may not have been impressed with the pilot. Who knows? Members DRW50
Dynasty began experiencing severe falls at this point, and The Colbys turned out to be a non-starter. The era of the primetime soap was winding down and I guess ABC lost interest. It's a shame it didn't work out. It's also a shame Loretta Young was never on a primetime soap. I've been watching some of the slightly odd comedy/drama (with slight soapy elements) she did for a year or so in the early 60's, and she has such incredible presence. Members Chris B
I'd heard rumors that Paper Dolls was planning to bring Loretta Young on to revamp the series with them killing off original matriarch played by Nancy Olson.
