This is the scene between Holly and Roger on July 22, 1994.  They act like a couple that Ed/Maureen should have been. Don't get me wrong, I thought the scenes between them were great since the car accident in 1990 where Roger admits to being allergic to skunks.

I just think building all that only to make them start from square one made no sense.

These scenes and the relationship don' t make sense. I remember stopping around this time as it was  All Buzz, and then, all of a sudden, Holly and Roger are a happy, and boring couple? Holly jumping into the man who beat and raped her arms...(and I love be some Roger/Holly, but the sexy, push pull love and hate Roger and Holly, not this...)

But then again, the whole episode didn't make sense...Vanessa's boat trip is filmed and sound tracked as if she is at Camp Crystal Lake or there is a  bomb on the boat.. NotAlan is talking to Tangie about revenge (does she know who he is?) Jenna and the BORING ass cosmetics storyline. The only saving grace is Bridget and Dylan, and I can't help it, I love them together. Englund is a piece of ass but it works that he would be in love with this not model looking girl.  I thought that the son of Billy and Reva should have been a bit more..wild, but they wrote to the actor's strength and its kind of sweet.  So much so I will admit when they brought that weird NuDylan on and he had dumped Bridget to chase after, who else, but Harley, I was kinda pissed!

I keep forgetting to ask.  Did the show ever show the relationship between Blake and Alan or was it implied?

I just happened to watch this episode while eating lunch today:

The flashbacks start about 25 minutes in.

What an exposition dump. I noticed there are a lot of them at this point on the show, probably because this is soon after the writers strike ended.

Also interesting: it starts with a promo that prominently features Daniel Pilon, which is unusual for a temp replacement. Seems like they may have been accelerating Alan's storylines in preparation for reintroducing Roger. The discussion with Blake wanting to be VP of all departments is a Roger callback, because that was the position he had at Spaulding.

Thanks..boy Phillip was being a real DICK and I can't believe that Rick and Mo just stood there. Meredith is...what was the reason for her? Johnny is a big black hole of boredom, and what was the thing with Chelsea's robe? Why was Rusty's girlfriend handing out with Ed, and Fletcher never fails to annoy, though you can tell Hammer thinks he is as cute as can be...(are there ANY locks at the Spaulding mansion?) Speaking of mansions, I never thought that H.B. would live in that house, though I love the set.

I love that there is a thunderstorm...there is never a thunderstorm on a soap that does not mean something bad is happening.

I found old posts about these Fan Fairs they used to do in Michigan.  They were huge!  However, I noticed that the only big name on GL that would attend them is Michael Zaslow!  In 94 it was him, Michele Miner and the guy who played Little Bill!  In 96, it was only Michael!  The other soaps had many more actors attend.  Really surprised me.  I wish that there were vids or pictures. There was a vid from 95, but it was on the days he wasn't there.

Correction, Kevin Mambo and Michael O'Leary (Rick) also attended in 96.

@DeeVee Thank you!

IMO, Phillip has always been a jerk!

I’m up to April 21, 1997.

March 31 is the first day we have new head writers credited at the end: James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten!

Reva truly believes Annie is her long lost sister, so instead of telling anyone, she decides to lie to Josh and tell him her sister (Dani) is likely dead and she’s stopping her search. He is shocked and doesn’t think she should stop looking so quickly. Reva then ends it with Josh and gives him no hope of getting back together. Josh uses Billy to get Reva to reconsider, but it doesn’t help. I will say, Reva and Billy do have some good chemistry haha. Reva then breaks down and tells Annie she is her sister, which Annie is egging on through her elaborate plan, but pretends to break down and feign shock. Reva has sympathized so much with Annie now and feels bad for her, which is odd for Reva and almost has neutered her (which annoys me). She’s willing to put Sarah’s wishes above her own kids, because she’s threatening to leave Springfield again if Josh doesn’t leave her alone (which annoys me). Annie is doing a great job of milking her ‘loss’ of never having Sarah as a mother like Reva did LOL.  But, then wow, after a very awkward lamaze class, Josh finally mans up and tells Annie he’s no longer in love with her, which breaks Annie down. I can see her spiraling now even more going forward, as she internally says “I’m going to kill you, Reva Shayne!”.

Cooper was kidnapped in the diner when Buzz and Eleni had their backs turned. This new diner set is truly awful. Anyway, it ends up being Jeffrey who takes him, so Jenna would be upset with Buzz, Jeffrey can be the hero who ‘saves’ Cooper, and Jenna will go back to him.  Jenna professes her love to Buzz, but says she can’t be with him because Jeffrey is threatening her based on their recent jewelry heists. Jeffrey starts to take it further by assaulting her and holding her against her will. Frank is helping Buzz get to Jenna for now. While Jenna makes Buzz more tolerable for me, and while I actually like them as a couple, this storyline overall is pretty repetitive and boring.

Hmm, I’m not sure I really buy Amanda/Roger as a romantic couple, which is where they seem to be going. Amanda originally wanted to drop the wedding charade once they got the truth about her parentage and ownership, but now she seems to have feelings for him and is flirting with him. Meanwhile, I think Roger still has feelings for Holly and I’m happy with that. He even bought Meg a present, which was sweet.

Roger visits Vanessa in Lucerne again and realizes she now has her eyesight back. He gives her an update on everyone in Springfield, to include Billy being out of prison, and she is grateful to him for the visit. These were very sweet scenes. Vanessa then has a daydream where she’s packing up to go home and Matt walks in and they have a reunion/kiss. I didn’t love that, because it would be more impactful to see the reunion later, when it’s real. Especially since she ‘died’ 8 long months ago. Vanessa is then given a computer and microphone to start journaling and writing family members letters, while Dinah pushes Matt to try using a computer to find partners through chat rooms. Cheese alert: Vanessa then looks at the computer with the Internet icon and says “My gosh, I could talk to anyone in the whole wide world with that thing, anywhere!”.  LOL - watching this in 2025 is so funny to me, and clearly the foreshadowing with Matt/Vanessa finding each other online (assuming). Of course, days later, they both enter an empty Poetry chatroom where it’s only the two of them, out of everyone in the world that could be online in a chatroom LOL.

April 14 - we have a new character, Michael Burke, who is now Vanessa’s physical therapist in Lucerne. I can’t help but to think this is just Zachary’s replacement, as it relates to being Vanessa’s confidant and guide. Another young, handsome man. Maeve Kinkead is also back on contract and appears in the closing credits again - yay!

Anyway, Matt gives Bill an early graduation gift, which was Henry’s watch. It was a sweet gesture, but then Bill gets upset and thinks it’s a bribe to get him to move back into the house. They seem to keep going back and forth with Bill and Matt, and I wish they would just settle on something.

Blake/Hart and Dinah/Ross have similar conversations where Blake tries to convince Hart to go back to Dinah, even though the girls aren’t best friends; likewise, Dinah tries to convince Ross to go back to Blake, even though the girls aren’t best friends. The boys seem to lighten their stance and there seems to be a small hope. Ross is softening and tells Blake they can suspend the divorce for now and take things slow. Hart/Dinah eventually kiss.

Ugh, I knew this was coming in 1997, but I didn’t think Bridget’s exit would start to happen so quickly. She talks to Ross at Company about potentially leaving Springfield and what the legal ramnifications would be with Peter. She said she feels like she needs a new start, away from Hart, but I’m very curious how they’re going to write this for Peter/Hart and eventually Vanessa when she returns. It just seems like an awful time to get rid of Bridget/Peter and I can’t see Bridget leaving Peter in Springfield.

Now they have Billy working at the diner with Buzz as part of his community service, oh boy haha.

I’ve also realized that I’ve seen the last of Hamp, since the actor passed away in early Jan 1997. Very sad that the show didn’t even acknowledge his character leaving the show or the actor’s passing.

That's what gets me about Phillip.  He acts more hysterical than any teen character around and he gets to be head of anything Spaulding?  Rick keeps getting used by him and he still keeps being his BFF.  They might as well have gotten married.

Meridith and Johnny were so boring!  I didn't get how Johnny lasted so long.  Heck, they tried Holly and Johnny.

@alwaysAMC Hamp left in 1995. If it were me, I would have had Hamp become a High School football coach and thus be a way to be tied to the youth and the Lewis family.

There are so many aspects of characters just ignored.  I would have had Beth still be part of the arts.  Instead, they just made her crazy.

@alwaysAMC Another reason I hated Hart.  He didn't care his SON was leaving to freaking MN!?

It's hard for to me to like GL when I read things like there was a new Dylan?!  I just can't.

He was in a handful of episodes throughout 1996, at least into the early summer. I wish I had noted when/what dates when I was doing my watch.  But, so sad they didn't acknowledge anything.

You are right.  He left in July 1996.  Breaks my heart that they didn't even act like he left.

GL really did a BAD job when it came to this. Even with Roger they acted like he didn't exist.

1995-1998 William Roerick, Larry Gates, Vince Williams, Michael Zaslow all passed.

With all the recent talk of Frank Beaty I forgot that about 7-8 years ago I clipped this ad he did (not sure of the exact date).

To give an example of how Roger and Holly's relationship went from them basically living together to starting from square one, is this episode from 1996.  The hate that Holly is giving had me scratching my head, because there wasn't anything that Holly said to Dinah that indicated anything about what she is saying here.

The storyline was wonky to me. Just didn't seem like good writing.

@P.J. Who did Monica play?  Was she on the show later on?

Speaking of attorneys.  I wish this divorce attorney stayed around.  He was so funny.

I believe Coco was an old girlfriend of Jackson's. After Warren Andrews confessed to murdering Paul Valere, Jackson took over the Blue Orchid. (or maybe he was already involved in it, I'm not sure.) Anyway, Jackson wanted to make William (Renaud White) his assistant manager, but Coco blew into town saying that Jackson had promised her the job. She wouldn't take the hint and let William have the job, so Jackson made her his entertainment coordinator or some such.

OMG...Ross slept with Meredith. Or almost did. It's hard to tell German subtext sometimes. Anyway, Vanessa came over to Ross', Meredith walks in on their talk wrapped in a sheet, and Van runs out, telling Ross she's going to be Alan's wife.

Oh, and Frank preceeded Harley. He has a couple of weeks of scenes with George Stewart (Cam's father) talking about running a chop shop.

I just watched these scenes the other day. She also strongly hinted that she and Jackson were involved in some kind of dirty business in Monte Carlo. That's why he couldn't get rid of her. I'm guessing they were setting up something here that never came to fruition. I think this was still during the strike, so it was forgotten or changed.

He was such a handsome guy back then, and the scruff is even better. The title of it says 1998, which is surprising because in the interview he gave in more recent times, he said he wanted to quit the industry and find God (something to that effect), so I'm surprised only 2 years later from leaving GL, he got back in front of the camera. He could have kept Brent going in 1996 and made GL so much better that year!
