Liz Keifer made it clear in one of the Locher room interviews that Rauch had a type and it was not women over a certain age. Too many women also will overlook men like Rauch if they are not harassed. We see that all that time. The fact that Zimmer would know what Rauch did and call him her favorite producer says a lot. It's this kind of thinking: "He liked me and made  me a front burner character  again so I'll overlook him being a predator."

That was a huge part of it, but I also think Zimmer had the mindset of "This is how the industry works, babe, learn to deal with it. I had to get through it, you do too." And as discussed, Zimmer does tend to like and respect men more,  so she could think, "Oh, its just a guy thing, tell him to go to hell" and not think through the implications that while she could tell people to go to hell, a younger/less established actress could not.

Not saying her view was right.

I suppose Rauch may also not have been behaving that way by the time of GL. We've heard some very toxic stories/allegations about women from his time at AW and OLTL but not as much at his later soaps.

I wonder if Kim also had a good relationship with him at SB, even if she disliked the experience.

I think this is an example of things not found to be true when compared to RL. Believe you me, there are absolutely stories about Rauch at GL. Some are different but even more toxic. GL was a very paranoid place & that was to him. Also he had absolute control over what women wore. He liked certain colors. He liked skirts to be  a certain length, often called short. The intercom was a two-way communication deal so he listened in on everything. And, often he made people pay for whatever. Karma was way too slow for his way of thinking.

I'm sure it wasn't a great set. I just meant the situation may have been different when Kim was working with him compared to AW and OLTL.

Paul Rauch mistreated Louise Sorel at Santa Barbara. She was let go because they had had a previous relationship when she was on OLTL. There was the Roscoe Born thing where he got into it with Paul Rauch and Roberta Bizeau/Weiss was fired as a result. Whether she was just fired as revenge or Rauch did something, who knows? I think I remember that Roscoe Born even wrote a song about Rauch and sent it to everyone.

I think a lot of it is that women were used to this kind of treatment and saw it as normal because these men just went from show to show doing the same thing. A lot of women do  blame other women for not being tough enough/not standing up for themselves. Women like Zimmer also were constantly competing against other women for roles and attention (maybe not Slezak so much) and most of their scene partners were men. I think that's why some women of Zimmer's age group come out and complain that metoo "went too far." I don't know if Zimmer has ever spoken about metoo or harassment behind the scenes in the soap world so I don't know what she would say.

I forgot they overlapped. I thought the Dobsons were mad because she objected to the Dash/Augusta material.

Okay, I understand that. The thing is I think the difference is Zimmer. I do not believe Paul was better behaved at GL. I just think Kim's attitude about a male boss are so screwed up that she likes him & thinks he likes her & does not care about his actual character flaws especially having to do with women.

She said there was definite friction from that, but it was Rauch's arrival that sealed her fate. From what I remember, Louise Sorel said in an interview that she knew she was going to be fired once she knew Rauch was coming to Santa Barbara. I know she did an interview with welovesoaps as well, but their site seems to be down at least for me at the moment.

The trick to current welovesoaps is not to go directly but from an URL that goes to page within a page, if that makes any sense at all.

I had that problem too. This is their new site.

I thought Sorel left because she was disgusted with the Dobson’s writing Augusta fantasizing about her sister’s rapist.

The assumption is that she is speaking about Rauch here?

We Love Soaps: One of the things that has been hard for me as a soap viewer over the past decade or so is to constantly see these decisions being made that we don’t agree with.
Louise Sorel: You just don’t know what’s going on. A lot of politicking. In my case, [pause] I know what the reason was. Let’s say it was not a professional reason. And I don’t respect that. If you really come to blows with somebody, and they’re doing awful things then that’s whatever. But this had nothing to do with the show.

She came out and said it in another interview about being fired because of their previous relationship. I think she's referring to Rauch here. I wish I could find the other interview although there might be more than one.  She's not shy about giving her side of the story.

Liz Keifer made it clear she didn't respect Paul Rauch very much so I can only imagine what she witness on on OLTL and GL

January 25th 1999 -

I skipped two episodes because I wasn’t able to view it on my phone, but I feel I should start with the Annie/Teri situation. This has got to be my least favourite from this show so far. I was intrigued at the start of January with the drugging Josh’s aftershave thing, but now it’s become such a mess I honestly don’t know what going on. By the end of this episode Annie is being carried off to jail and Teri seems to be recovering and doing well. I’m sure it doesn’t end here though. It feels very Kristen DiMera-ish but a watered down version. Still better than ANYTHING we have in soaps today though, for sure.

I got to see Vanessa and Ross interacting over their daughter, Dinah. They are concerned and rightfully so, or actually should I say Vanessa is concerned. Ross doesn’t seemed too bothered and maybe it’s the influence of that India character helping him be more “care free”. Still need to learn more about these people but I really appreciated that interaction between two parents of a grown up daughter, it felt real. I also really got the sense that these two people used to be married. I could picture it easily.

This episode was my first time seeing Cassie which was surprising. I got the sense during all these episodes she is suppose to be the heroine of this story and yet she was barely on in January. However I totally understand and accept how stories would rotate and take turns being front burner, that was part of what I love about classic soap. Maybe I’ll see more of her now that Dinah seems to be losing her absolute [!@#$%^&*]. Dinah is gonna steal that woman’s baby isn’t she? I can feel it.

Last but not least, this Blake and Ben characters are SUPER new to me.. I must confess. So I don’t know anything about this talk of Blake’s mother trying to kill Ben, but I’m certainly excited to find out more. If anyone wants to get into the back story of what happened pre-1999 im all ears!

I’ll admit as much as I’ve been LOVING the Harley/Susan story and Michelle/Danny story, it was nice to get a break. Even characters you enjoy the most can get exhausting. It’s nice to see some new/recent faces of people I haven’t gotten to get acquainted with much yet!
