MG has that great Bev way with a sarcastic one liner (with irony thrown in.) They all think it Rog gobbling up stock but it turns out to be Holly...(and she and RR had great chemistry in that "one" little scene when he was giving her stock to have the Journal...RR to his credit acted a bit turned on by MG in that scene and who the hell wouldnt be?)

Even though Maureen would typically be the last person to be aware of it, aren't we all turned on by her?!!!

And, yes, I love a sarcastic, somewhat superior, MG/Holly!!

There is a GREAT monologue during the JFP/Curlee years where Holly talks about if I remember correctly, an alien landing and she has to explain herself...(I kid you not and it worked) and she refers to herself as a "rich little daddy's girl" so someone remembered. She had enough cake to buy the Journal and into WSPR..(I never knew who the hell owned that, it was Alan, then Roger and Holly? Then Dinah????) I think post Rauch they forgot about that but I always wanted Holly to go toe to toe with the Spauldings, MG has that great Bev way with a sarcastic one liner (with irony thrown in.) They all think it Rog gobbling up stock but it turns out to be Holly...(and she and RR had great chemistry in that "one" little scene when he was giving her stock to have the Journal...RR to his credit acted a bit turned on by MG in that scene and who the hell wouldnt be?)

Those are interesting details, so thanks! At least somebody remembered, as you said.  As I recall Holly's father, Stanley Norris, was a wealthy business owner -- sort of an early version of Alan Spaulding.  I can't remember if Stanley Norris just left town, or if he died.  And then the Spauldings and the Chamberlins arrived to assume the wealthy family roles.  Meanwhile, Holly was nearly always in the Bauer orbit in one way or another, making her seem more middle-class. And as writing duties evolved over the years, Holly's wealth was seldom demonstrated.

A similar thing happened on Another World in the 1970s.  Lenore Moore and her mother, Helen, were introduced as very wealthy old friends of also wealthy Liz Matthews.  But after Agnes Nixon left the writer's room, later writers seemed to forget about Lenore's wealth.  Lenore became close friends with the middle-class Matthews girls, which led to Lenore and Helen also being played more or less middle-class.  When Harding Lemay introduced Iris and Mac as the show's new wealthy family, Lenore's wealthy origins were further forgotten -- as she had little interaction with either Mac or Iris, and seemed to feel no identification with them.  I believe there was a very brief flirtation between Mac and Lenore for a time, but even then Lenore was not played as one of Mac's peers, nor on similar financial footing.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I just thought the two situations were vaguely similar.

Yes, Stanley Norris, Holly's father was wealthy. He was murdered.

Yes, being married to Fletcher and having a late in life pregnancy and sporting a baby bump, or being a depressed background character would not have been my choices for Holly.

That would have been a good story...if he was wealthy, in the retro written world post Long...he would have knon Brandon, which means he would have been screwed over by Brandon, so Holly finds some old papers and blackmails Alan for her rightful shares...and Alan is turned on as hell.

I know there is alot to not forgive Kreizman for, but I can't believe he would dangle Holly and Alan doing a business deal with Blake and Sebastian (Meh on Seb) thinking about taking over Spaulding in one episode and just not follow up ever again. The greatest idea he ever had as a headwriter on GL and he backed away from it like it was made of plutonium.

Agreed...I was getting excited..but all we got was...Harley as CEO??

Remember Josh was going to get involved to take down Alan..and he and Seb had this weird little scene where Seb seemed to be flirting with Josh and Josh was liking it...who knew RN had more chemistry with the Seb actor then he did with the Cassie recast!.

I'm happy to finally see any episode of Kit and Charlotte. I'm still hoping that an episode of Lynn Deerfield as Holly shows up. She left when I was four, so I don't remember her

OMG...if episodes of Jordan Clarke as Dr. Tim Ryan show up, I will freak.

..(I never knew who the hell owned that, it was Alan, then Roger and Holly? Then Dinah????)

The first I remember hearing about WSPR, Spaulding owned it. Phillip gave it to Blake as a wedding present. (there's a whole subplot where Vanessa and Henry only agree to it if Phillip offers Ross an executive position at Spaulding, because Vanessa is trying to chase Ross again)  Somehow, Holly finds a clause that allows her to buy half, and she and Ross go in as partners, owning 25 percent. They find out that Roger has bought the other half, and Holly freaks. (that's spring of '90, at the same time Roger has swindled Henry out of most of the Chamberlain stock in Spaulding) Ross eventually gets out. Dinah buys it at some point, and Vanessa is overseeing it around the time Holly goes bonkers, because Holly wants Vanessa to stop some story from airing, and she won't.

At some point, I read Josh owned it, and Vanessa bought it for Dinah. Dinah owns/runs it when she gets shot. Vanessa is running it in the last weeks of the show.

Thanks! The GL writers were never very coherent when writing business deals (one could look up how corporations work!) I just saw an episode when Alan is hiding out in Andora or whatever it is when CB first came back (the sets and clothing were hideous, Kobe really wants very good, Alan is in a "pink" sweater and Baron Von Halkind is dressed like Dracula...) and he buys the radio station as he wants everyone in town to "Dance to his tune!" so I thought that was the start of his media dominance in SF and the intro of WSPR.

LOL, well I never thought the corporate mechanics would be that exciting. It's always the personal backstabbing within the corporate structure that I liked. I just always wanted that consistency in the details.

I remember a SOD blurb with Lynn Deerfield in the 90's asking about her time as Holly on GL. She quipped " I was married to Ed the Chief Of Staff and wore polyester"

I always wanted a bit more accuracy on business life. Sometimes Spaulding is a privately held corporation and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes the Chamberlains still own part of it and sometimes they don't. Alex and Alan go around appointing people to Vice Presidencies with no input from the board or anyone else...(and does anyone but a VP work at Spaulding?) The worst was the board appointing Harley as CEO..they investors would be in an uproar and they would be charged with malfeasance but Kreizman thought it was cute to put his fave female character there and had the back pack scene and..that was it. Dinah takes Spaulding from the family..how????  The book "Unscripted" which is about Sumner Restone and the fight for his empire (which also prominatley features our own George Pilgrim, who played J..No Dot Chamberlin and seems exactly as obnoxious as the character he played..) had all the juicy backstabbing and the corporate intrigue was very interesting as well.

So, I think it was PJ yearning for early Vanessa. Well, whoever it was, I've found one for you. On Rumble, the Rich Vernadeau Show channel, and the name of the video is

GUIDING LIGHT 7/21/80 full episode Early VANESSA, KEVIN BACON

OMG! Jerry & Maeve are SO young!!!
