I got a laugh out of this.

Now that you mention it, Claire was one of the women I thought Ron had a little more pep with, although I don't know if I believe Alan would have been interested in her. Maybe if Ed had been around and Alan had wanted to needle him.

Claire was around right before PS came back. Its really odd, they had the Meta/Claire lighthouse storyline (loved the Meta/Claire dynamic...Meta giving her a kick in the ass and Claire the only person in town who doesnt treat Meta like a beloved aunt..more like an annoying aunt you cant get rid of.) MS got sick so I understand they had to dump the planned storyline of the grand reopening of the lighthouse for (and substitute Jeva's sixth millionth wedding? Someone really thought they were quite the ratings draw) but PS came back and Claire just..disappeared. Another missed opp. Claire with Ed's old enemy, and also with Rick and his heart issue, having Claire involved...(and Pratt made such a great pain in the ass.) I also liked that Alan and Claire were just screwing and not making anything more of it.

I too liked PS much better on his return then during his post Mo death period. Simon played a great, wounded troubled guy trying to do right. Taggert used him really well, as kind of a Judge Lowell character that people bounded issues off of and he came off so much stronger...and really showed that GL needed quiet characters like Ed and quiet actors like PS to ground the show. It was never shown better then Ed's scene with Reva with KZ trying her tricks on upstaging and PS having none of it and it was a really good scene, KZ had to take it down to meet Simon as Reva would have to with Ed and it also showed that KZ was great with relationship scenes of family and friends instead of the OTT things Rauch contantly put her in.

They had a good scene on a Christmas Eve episode, Alex has a glam party and everyone is there dressed to the nines...(and its MKA's last episode during her short stint, who oddly says she is just taking a trip and will be back) and then another scnene and its Alex by herself kind of picking up after the party (I can see a control freak like her not waiting for the help) and Roger, knowing full well that she is alone comes in and asks where everyone is and she tells them they all left to got the the Bauers, and he makes his move. Simple fast scene showing that Alex is lonely and in her own Spaulding screwed up way, wants to make a home like the Bauers were people come to hang out.

Roger always had a talent for manipulating women. And finding ones with daddy issues. That Christmas Eve is when they found out Beth was alive, so you can imagine she was also feeling Lujack's absence a little more keenly than usual.

That is one sinister interpretation of Jerry ver Dorn. LOL...just read the bottom, seeing it was in the June 28th 1980 issue. Odd that they'd have Hilary in the add and not Hope.

I was wondering the same thing! I wonder if the artist was given any instructions on who to include and who gets featured or if it was all at his or her discretion.

Lenore on the top-that makes sense, she was one of the big stars of the show at this point. They mention the Emmy win and she was heavily featured in that episode. But Maureen was literally on the way out the door, she left a few months later. It's not Marsha Clark's inclusion that I'm puzzled about (I mean, Hillary's a Bauer), it's Lezlie Dalton's, who Marland was already in the process of writing out of the show. Why are she and Janet (Evie) there and not Elvera? (And why isn't her name on the list?) There's even an empty space between Jerry and Stephen Yates where they could have put her drawing. It looks a little off.

Now I'm wondering if they were considering getting rid of her at this point. She and Chris were their major couple at the time (with JWS and Kristen as the young love couple) it just seems bizarre she's not there. Which reminds me--why is Lisa Brown not there? Maybe she was still considered relatively minor and hadn't broken out yet.

Also weird is that they list Charita's name but don't include her in the drawing. Ageism, maybe? Don and Mart are small and off to the side (I bet Don hated this ad, LOL).

And, yeah, why did they make Jerry look like a serial killer? 😂

I get Lezlie, who always has story. (She's cheating on Justin with Mike, or something around this time.) Hillary's stories never seemed to go anywhere.

I was trying to figure out why Nola or Vanessa weren't included. While Lisa had been airing for a few months (but oddly, both Kelly and Morgan are, and they must've started around the same time), Maeve probably hadn't even started airing when this was at the printers.

Poor Janet Grey---that is one lousy drawing of her. Sure, Jerry looks sinister, and Stephen looks a little odd...but if they didn't list Janet's name, I don't think I could've guessed that was supposed to be her. Unless someone can think of someone else that might be.

I'm pretty sure she started around March 1980? I would guess she wasn't included but JWS and Kristen were because Kelly and Morgan were Marland's plan to be GL's answer to Scottie/Laura from GH. They were major with a major planned storyline. He didn't seem to have a major storyline in mind for Maeve--besides tormenting Ross and vamping most of the men in town.

For a sort-off villainous character, Vanessa was very reactive when Marland wrote her. She went after Ross because she couldn't imagine him really being interested in Evie. She became enemies with Quint and Nola because she couldn't stand the idea of not being Daddy's only child.

I've never understood why, when he had this FABULOUS actress, playing someone who had all the makings of a FABULOUS character, he never gave her a strong storyline with a strong throughline.

If that ad was done in June 1980, Vanessa had just started on the show a mere few weeks before so I could understand her not being in the ad. Kelly/Morgan because they were the new young love story while Holly had just come off an intense year dealing with the rape, being in prison for 'killing' Roger, and the Santa Domingo story so her name carried weight even though it was close to her leaving. I do agree that Hope should have been included in the ad.

I could see that reasoning re: Kelly/Morgan vs Nola. Especially knowing Nola was created somewhat on the fly.

It is surprising Marland didn't give Vanessa stronger schemes and goals. Maybe he thought two (or three, I guess, with Diane) cold-hearted schemers was overkill, and Vanessa kind of jelled into the jealous adult woman/child. Maybe she would've headed back to Ross, as Ross and Carrie sorted out who and what they were after discovering her split personalities.

I never blamed Vanessa for resenting Quint--he was such an obnoxious do-gooder, anyone would've hated him. LOL.

He became almost childlike at times. My sister, who loved him initially, said he became "retarded"

Not a nice word, I know, but it was the 1980s.

The "forever teenager" - wow, I had no idea! I just came across this video and LOL at how long she is a teen. I really don't like Susan that much (love that Brittany Snow made it big), but to see this journey of hers, wow haha. This gave me a few spoilers that I hope I forget tomorrow after all the glasses of wine I had tonight :P but goodness, what an arc. It makes me want to see everything, all to the end. Oh and now I get what y'all were saying about the Lemays being there from the beginning!

What actress was the fan favorite for Susan/Daisy?

Also - Harley gave birth in SUNGLASSES, at night?? LOL.

I’m up to June 07, 1999.

As Abby is recovering post-operation, she and Rick urge Reva/Josh to go on their honeymoon now that she is through her surgery. They agree and leave her bedside, but Reva goes to the doctor to start her hypnotherapy first. Meanwhile, Abby has a nightmare that she’s been discharged and everyone is happy, but she still can’t hear anything. During Reva’s session, the doctor asks her what happened between the time she drove off the cliff and then arrived in Goshen, and she says she sees a wall and a locked door that she can’t go in. The doctor tells her to unlock the door and she finally does, but she freaks out at what she sees (we don’t see it), and says she can’t go in. She begs the doctor not to make her go in, so the doctor ends the session and tells Reva her mind definitely doesn’t want her to remember the repressed memories.

Later, Abby is back home and feeling well from the implant surgery and she surprises Rick by saying the doctor is ready to turn them on so she can start hearing. They get to the hospital and in a very sweet scene, we see Abby being able to hear her voice and Rick’s voice for the very first time! She freaks out and gets giddy with all the little noises she hears and it’s cute. He goes behind her so she can’t read his lips, and tells her in her ear that he loves her, which makes her so happy. Later that night, while they’re celebrating with beer, her implant stops working and she starts to freak out because she can’t hear anything and feels trapped.

The day of Susan’s big 13th birthday party is finally here and Harley and Beth clash as they decorate Millennium, but eventually get over it and apologize to each other. Jim, Cassie and Josh have a business meeting there, which Harley and Beth watch from a distance, and Josh asks Jim and Cassie to work together as business partners, which upsets Beth. Harley then gets a call from the school saying Susan never showed up, and Beth said she thought she had the day off for her birthday and she’s likely upstairs at Drew’s apartment with Max. Susan is indeed with Max and he reveals he lied about having a girlfriend. They bond over losing their mothers, and Susan is upset about not having her adopted mother alive during her birthday, which Harley overhears and then softens up. The actual party is rather boring, but a young Lea Michele (Glee, etc) is there as an extra/friend of Susan’s (6/03). Susan eventually sees Jim and Beth dancing/kissing and she gets angry, but Max tells her that’s what guys and girls do when they like each other. He then asks her to dance, which makes her night, and on her way out she gives him a quick peck on the lips. After the party, Harley starts to have random spasms/contractions periodically through the night. While Philip is out getting pizza, Harley has severe pains again and Susan notices and calls 911. Phillip rushes back home as the paramedics get ready to take her to the hospital. While at the hospital, Susan calls Jim just as he and Beth are about to have sex for the first time, and he rushes to the hospital. Dr. Sedgwick eventually says Harley has preeclampsia and she should be ok, but Susan cries to Phillip and tells him it’s all her fault. She thinks she’s to blame given that she originally didn’t want Harley to have the baby, but Phillip tells her that’s nonsense and he knew she would never hurt Harley or the baby. They hug as Jim/Beth arrive and Susan starts laying into Jim for being with Beth. Jim asks why she’s being this way considering she and Lizzie were trying to set them up before, and Susan says it’s gross watching Beth hang all over him at her party because her (dead) mother never would have done that.

Vicky and David get their one episode a month (eye-roll), with Vicky dressed to the nines, ready to go to a Spaulding charity event with David. David shows up, but he’s not dressed up and she gets angry with him for bailing on her. He then reveals he’s in pain because he was just badly bruised/bloodied while on police duty, so she apologizes and surveys the bruises after he takes his shirt off. She watches over him all night and he tells her about how proud he feels getting someone bad off the streets, which makes her finally accept that him being a cop will be ok. Meanwhile, Annie/Alan come home from the charity event, with Alan being mad that Vicky was a no-show. Annie starts to fight with him again about her living conditions and she breaks a glass in her hand. He wants to take her to the hospital, but she tells him to get the hell away from her and she leaves the mansion with a bloody hand. She gets to the hospital and runs into a crying Lizzie who tells Annie about Harley and her baby scare. Annie tells her she can come visit her anytime she’s overwhelmed, and then Beth shows up and takes Lizzie away.

Selena talks to Buzz about needing to find a new job since the diner is gone and she can’t work at Millennium with Drew anymore. He then surprises her by saying he just bought Company last week from Nola (offscreen) and she can work there. Meanwhile, Drew and Jesse continue to fight about Drew shutting Selena out of her life. She then brings up that Selena probably doesn’t even know who her father is because he was just a random, paid customer of hers. She thinks back to her book of johns and leaves to figure out who it might be. Thinking Selena left town, Drew goes to Selena’s to investigate and is shocked to see her. Drew tells her that she wants to know who her father is, and Selena said she narrowed it down to three guys back in the day, but that’s all she knows. Selena cries and says she’s done running, so Drew will have to just deal with her being around, but she promises to keep the secret for Max’s sake.

Pilar and Bill have a cute date, but Michelle interrupts and talks to Bill privately. They think back to the night of the shootout and Bill says he remembers the exact time when the shooting happened because he was looking at and fixing the clock on the mantle. Michelle says the time when Ben called Danny about the shooting happened 10 minutes before that, so they realize Carmen and Ben staged the whole thing. Michelle goes to the Santos mansion and sneaks in to take the clock because it shows the frozen time of the shooting, but Carmen/Ben/Danny all come back so she hides and listens in. Danny then calls in all these men of different mob families and proclaims that the Santos family is stepping out and will no longer contribute to illegal crimes, which shocks everyone. Carmen pulls him aside and scolds him for not including her in the decision, but she ultimately agrees and confirms it to be true with the other families. Michelle comes out of hiding when Danny is alone and thanks him for making this decision to help the two of them come together, but we then see Carmen tell Ben this is all an act and she would never give away everything she’s worked so hard for. One of the men in the families doesn’t believe it either and voices his concerns amongst the group without Carmen/Danny there.

Thanks for keeping these going. I could not remember if Abby and Reva were still friends by this point. Glad to know they were.

I also forgot Annie would still be there, although it makes sense as she had arrived in summer or fall 1998. Seems like longer as her only real story laid a quick goose egg.

Brittany Snow was the better Susan/Daisy. Daisy was even more of a brat the second time around and her "little sister" Lizzie was now years older than her and I don't believe they really interacted in any meaningful way.
