April 1, 2009. The axe fell on our beloved GL. Its hard to see how GL could've gone on much longer than it did, considering what little budget they had.

Chances are, if GL had continued, it would've been reduced to taping episodes inside Ellen Wheeler's "she-shed." (Because, you just know that chick has a "she-shed").

I think they could have found a way, as they were supposedly getting the hang of the setup, but the show didn't have much longer left, the show was lucky to have lasted that long, much as I miss it and hope for some revival.

Boy, that's mean, doing it on April Fools Day.

What would a revival look like?

The return of Reva and Zimmer taking over again?

The children of Bill, Lizzie, Michelle, etc., with new actors?

Going back into the history of the show with recast Bauers, etc.?

Yep, and Zimmer writes about how cruel that was in her book.

Sad day!

I think Grant Aleksander mentioned that when Ron Raines called to tell him the show had been canceled, he had to say it wasn't an April Fool's joke.

Kim's over 70 now and recently had cancer so I don't think she would be as heavy in story as she was before.

I would probably start with the kids and grandkids of established families - Bauers, Spauldings. A new family or two as well, depending on whether the show is an hour or a half-hour. I might tie the new family to characters who were on the radio show. You wouldn't have to have a big mention, it could just be a tie viewers would know if they wanted to go and look.

Of course, you'd have to have the established characters but some I'd just have as guest spots.

I remember that when GA returned as Phillip, the mags reported that CBS suits were watching to see if there'd be a ratings bump. Apparently, that was GL's last chance. IMO, Phillip's return was easily the highlight of the final years, but the experimental format chased away too many grandmas, I guess.

I would've liked to have seen GL continue on PBS (because of historical importance), but with P&G ownership-- that would never happen. Also, Wheeler's pitch to reboot was horrible for CBS but could've worked on public television with fewer episodes a week.

With all of the kids hatched in the 90s and 00s, there'd be a plethora of adult legacy characters.

Maureen Reardon II (Matt/Vanessa)

Peter Reardon (Bridget/Hart)

Clarissa Marler (Ross/Blake)

Jason Marler (Ross/Blake)

Kevin Marler (Ross/Blake)

Francessca (Frankie) Cooper (Frank/Natalia)

Rocky Cooper (adopted by Buzz)

Emma Spaulding (Phillip/Olivia)

Peyton Spaulding (Alan/Beth)

Sarah Randall (Lizzie/Jonathan)

Baby girl Lewis (Shayne/Edmund's dead daughter)

Baby girl Lewis (Bill/Lizzie, seen but unnamed in finale)

Leah Bauer (Rick/Felicia)

Zach Spaulding (Phillip/Harley)

Jude Bauer (Rick/Harley)

announced Bordreaux pregnancy in finale? (Remy/Christina)

Robbie Santos (Michelle/Danny)

Hope Santos (Michelle/Danny)

RJ Winslow (Cassie/Hart)

that demon kid that Cassie adopted, the bio father was Prince Alonso-- Edmund's real brother

Colin O'Neal (Reva/Jeffrey)

Stacy Chamberlain (Nola/Quint)

any that I missed?

Selina's grown lawyer son with Miguel Santos who was hinted to be Gus Aitoro for over a year, but was changed by the HW-team of Taggart/Culliton. Having a cop discover that he was the son of the local mobster family would basically be Danto on GH, changing course was the right decision. Taggart/Culliton were smartly de-emphasising/ phasing out the mob during their brief run.

Whoa some of these couplings having kids blows my mind LOL.

I was about to say that Buzz/Jenna had another kid, but I just looked him up and saw that he died... boo haha.

If you're going to include Stacy, I would include a reimagined/less annoying J. Chamberlain.

India's daughter Dory.

Rita's kid, who was never brought into the story. (It was never confirmed she had one, but they were setting that up for ages).

And they could always invent children for Alan Michael, Amanda (so not every Spaulding descendant is actually a Marler), Nick, Samantha, Trish and Mindy Lewis, etc.

I remember when the news was announced in 2009 and my mom was saying 'This a bad April Fools Day joke, but I have a feeling this isn't a joke. It's fate was sealed in 1993 when Maureen was killed off, that being the first nail in the coffin.'

There really wasn't a way that the show could continue and still be feasible unless they scaled back the cast, writers, crew, and moved the show on-line. With this being 2009, that prospect was still in it's infancy.. and the AMC/OLTL experiment in 2013 was a few years away (viewership high.. but well over-budget).

It's cruel that the cancellation came on April Fool's, but the show had run its course by then. It was put out of its misery.

Better writers and a decent budget could've had Sarah Randall, Robby Santos and the younger kids leading the show. Although it's jarring to think of Michelle, Danny, Jonathan, and Lizzie as the new OG set replacing Cassie, Josh, Beth, and Harley. And we all know Reva wouldn't be leaving the front burner. She'd be in cougar town with Robby!
