Oh, Reva and Kyle were actually a big couple---and probably her most successful pairing other than Josh.

I'm blanking on Beth screwing her way through a family (although I guess Alan, Phillip and Lujack count), but the big one you're missing is Blake. Blake slept with Alan, Phillip and Alan-Michael, not to mention Phillip's biological uncles Ross and Ben.

Now I'm curious about Kyle and Reva. I just always assumed that no other romantic pairing compared to her and Josh.

I do remember Blake and Ben. I really liked his character, especially with Hunt Block in the role. But I didn't know that Blake ran through the entire Spaulding family. Springfield really was a small town!

Thanks for the history lesson.

Ridge and Bridget hooking up was absolutely filthy. He helped raise her as a daughter. P&G had an issue across the board.

Whaaaaaattttt? I rarely ever watched B&B, but I do remember when they revealed Eric was really Bridget's father, and she was like 5 or 6 year old? Ridge thought he was her father for all that time!

That beats AM and Marina by about a billion miles.

The only male Spaulding Blake missed was Gus. Olivia slept with Alan and Phillip. Cassie slept with brothers Richard and Edmund (and didn't she almost sleep with her b-in-law Josh?).

Didn't Vanessa sleep with Justin early on? Or am I hallucinating that one? (It seems like a safe assumption, LOL).

Ridge and Bridget only kissed (and even that is nasty since he raised her). But Bold got so much backlash, and the story was scrapped. I don't think they've ever mentioned their feelings again. It's beyond vile that a man can raise a girl and then have an attraction to her. Don't care that it's a soap. Ridge is a father/father figure to her.

When Robert Newman (Josh) and Chris Bernau (the OG Alan) left the show, they filled in the gap by hiring Larkin Malloy as rich businessman Kyle Sampson. He had been very popular as Sky Whitney on Edge of Night. They attached him to the Lewis family.

My theory for why the audience accepted Reva and Kyle was that Newman left not that long after they had established Reva and Josh as a star-crossed romantic couple. If he had stayed another year it might have been different.

When both Newman and Bernau came back in 1986, the story goes that they wanted to keep Malloy and have a love triangle with Josh/Reva/Kyle, but Kyle was going to be the odd man out. Malloy didn't want to play the losing side of the love triangle, so he left. They had Reva become involved with Alan instead.

Thank God for small mercies. 😂

Frankly, I don't blame him, lol. Unfortunately, he ended up playing the losing side of the Erica/Travis/Jack triangle on AMC, once it was clear that the writers had done too much damage to Travis and Erica's relationship for them to reconcile.

I think B&B owes a lot of it's success to bringing Sheila over from Y&R. I drifted in and out of B&B for years, but I think I gave up on it seriously sometime during the Amber years. She was an obnoxious guttersnipe.

I actually think the repetitiveness is part of its success-you can easily come in and out.

The Ridge/Bridget thing is amazingly worse than that alone-Ridge believed Eric was his bio dad still for years after this. IIRC Bridget was SORASed awhile before that retcon came, so he went from father to brother to love interest. (I mean even if he knew he was adopted most of his life Bridget would’ve always thought he was family. And this isn’t even factoring in the Ridge/Brooke of it all outside the paternity issue.)

It’s legitimately the grossest incest plot I’ve seen on a soap. It’s somehow even worse than if AM thought he was Marina’s father for years while being married to Lucy, the paternity came out with a SORASed Marina and they hook up while he’s still with her Aunt Lucy.

I've seen this before and I've said this before... but the timing seems odd to me. Granted, I say this without seeing 1993-1994 haha. But for me, 1995 was so exciting. I'm guessing they convinced Kim to come back to save the show, but I'm curious if her return and Brent/Marian boosted ratings at all. For me, this cancel concern should have come in 1996. That year was generally boring and I don't think Phillip's return was helpful considering it was a dud. I like Phillip, but his return storyline just wasn't that interesting.

The ratings did rise in late 1995. Reva had some effect, presumably, but I give a lot of credit to the Brent/Marian story, as ratings trailed off again once it was over.

In retrospect, CBS probably should've pulled the plug. Instead, TPTB kept hoping GL would get better...until they realized it wouldn't.

I tend to agree with those who think the reprieves were less about having faith in GL and more about other options not showing up. The show finally ended when CBS seemingly gave up on any new soaps (for about 15 years anyway).

A part of me never wanted GL to go off the air, but I was very checked out of the show around this time so I wouldn't have been shocked at a cancelation. Mid/late 1996 was even worse - that cancelation would have been well earned.

I was in the same position around early 2001 and then in 2003. Then around the time Jonathan came in, tearing strips off the scenery, was when I quit until around early 2009. If not for the classicGL blog I probably wouldn't have even come back (that and this place).

I want to circle back to this. Was Alan-Michael a father figure to Marina, and then they hooked up? This is all so nasty lol.

He thought he might be her father for a few months after she was born, IIRC. Either way it was a horrible story.

No-before she was born he thought he was the bio dad then it turned out she was Frank’s. And he was married to her aunt for most of her childhood, and married to her other aunt before she was born. I was just making an analogy to how much you’d have yo change up AM/Marina to get close to Ridge/Bridget and still not get there haha

I agree with DeeVee---I'm not sure Reva and Kyle would've been as accepted if Reva and Josh would've had more time together. The audience would've been holding their breath, waiting for Josh to come back to town.

Reva and Josh barely have a year together before Robert Newman left in Nov. '84. Even though I find Kyle overbearing, there were times he was her Daddy Warbucks, lifting her out of the gutter emotionally and showered her with the good life she'd always wanted. (There's also times he's an overbearing [!@#$%^&*], dumping her unceremoniously.)

My 'Nessa is not that kind of 'ho. Although recaps suggest she did make a pass at him, and there is part of an episode I've seen where she's in Ross' apartment, in his pj top, flirting with Justin.

No. Alan-Michael briefly thought he was the father of Eleni's baby. But he knew before Marina was born that he wasn't. But it was gross that he'd married both of her aunts and then hooked up with her (or wanted to, I'm not sure on later era A-M's plot lines)

Thanks @DeeVee @P.J. @GL95 @DRW50 for the AM-Marina explainer. This thread has kept me more entertained than any of the current soaps this week. 😆

I'm still shocked by the A-M/Marina pairing that I haven't seen yet... while not as gross since Griffin didn't know about Gilly... my worst incest experience with GL so far is Griffin/Gilly all thanks to Vivian. Vivian really lost me with that disgusting secret storyline from 1996.

Oh, honey, you'd have to hang on another five-six years to see that.
