Members alwild
There is a possibilty that Kristoff St John(Neil) will be leaving Y&R because they are recasting Malcom. The reason why Neil is off the canvas for 3 months is because he criticised the writing and MAB is not too happy with that so she wants Neil to go. So for the mean time she decided to not write for Neil for 3 months and see where this leads to, so they might replace Malcom in the place of Neil Also CBS is pressuring MAB to get rid of Thom Bierdz (Phillip) because they are very unimpressed with his acting skills but MAB wants him to stay. Please take this with a grain of salt but there has been some dispute behind the scenes and basically MAB wants to get rid of Neil and the CBS show wants to get rid of Phillip. __________________ What the hell is going on with this show? Members Ann_SS
What is the source of this rumor? The rumor about Kristoff off for 3 months has never been confirmed. Given everything he said in that interview, I am not surprised if he is fired. I read that Bierdz's contract is up this month so either he will be given another contract or put on recurring. He hasn't had much to do since his return.
Members edgeofnik
Couldn't care less about KSJ -- he's a jerk. One of the reason that lead to my quitting Y&R, was the resurrection of Phillip -- what a flipping disaster. Undoing 20 years of history for a shock and awe at a pool party?? Was it worth it MAB? Members DRW50
I can believe that CBS never wanted Thom to return. The story was rushed through so fast that I can see them knowing they only had a limited timeframe. If only the show had used this limited run to slowly build him up and let people in town know him again, let his family process their anger and grief and happiness, instead of rushing through the whole thing in two weeks. But that would involve actually telling a story. The sad thing is I can't even blame CBS if they didn't want him to return. In the end it seemed to serve no purpose and somehow managed to give Jess Walton even LESS screentime, and was another example of a dud story being blamed on the cast, not on the people who are supposed to be writing and producing. Members Chris B
I just read on SoapCentral that Kristoff again went to Facebook and said that he'll appear in one episode for Colleen's funeral, then won't return until sometime in November. Based on the man himself, that pretty much confirms SOMETHING is going on. You just don't give someone that much time off. But it's sad that MAB can't accept criticism and try and improve the story. Everyone Kristoff said was true and he expressed himself better than Rowell has. MAB and co can't defend having Tyra sleep with Devon. It goes against Devon/Tyra's relationship and Devon/Neil. They didn't even attempt to develop the twist to somehow make it work. The scraps they throw at the black characters (sans Lily) IS racist. I'm convinced now. If MAB couldn't look objectively and see whats wrong with what she's written for the Winters, something is wrong. I have no doubt Malcolm will replace Neil and be used just as poorly,. Members Ann_SS
This sounds more specific so I'll take that SOC poster at face value for now Kristoff's in trouble. Oh well. No boss likes criticism in front of their clients, customers or even other employees. In fact, that kind of thing tends to get you fired. KSt wasn't even giving constructive criticism. He was dumping on the current regime in favor of the old one. It was humiliating for MAB. She had to think to herself: if he is so unhappy let him go work elsewhere. Again, these are the consequences that you risk when you say these kinds of things out in public. Hope Kristoff has some savings and business opportunities in place to get his family through whatever happens. I am still hoping for the best. Maybe MAB will cool down and let him back on the show. Members MoTheGreat
These TIIC must think black people are desparate. You don't do that to a yes man like KSJ thinking people gpoing to take a liking to a new Malcolm because we want black represented. KSJ was a team player for far too long & he just tired just like the rest of the black viewers that watch soaps. & that's why he got on these TIIC but they are much worse then LMl could have been. Members soapydoc
Kristoff confirmed on Facebook in the last day or so that he would be making a brief appearance at Colleen's funeral but then won't be back until November.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
I wonder if Neil's airtime in November will be being burnt to death. I wouldn't put it passed these hack writers. Kristoff going off on the writing for his character and for the show had to have bruised some egos. Members bellcurve
What if the "Malcom" recast is really a cover for a "Neil" recast?
Members SFK
I'm going to remember that you said that, bellcurve. Hadn't crossed my mind, but definitely a possibility.
Members Chris B
Nah, they can't recast Neil because you can't justify that in the press. We all know Kristoff is well liked and doesn't cause trouble. He's also popular and a 20 year vet. What excuse could they give? It would make them look so bad. Members jadia
ITA, there is no reason for a recast. Its a recast for MALCOLM and this time off for Neil is clearly punishment for KSJ latest comments that was a long time coming. And even then was a whole lot less inflammatory then others, imo. But Neil not being there fr his daughter illness is very glaring to me, they couldnt have chosen a wrong time for the slap on the wrist. Then again how much airtime has this cancer sl gotten in the last few weeks anyhow? Lane on the couch a couple segments, twice a week with perhaps one person visiting them and then that's it. And as much as I love SM and know he's popular, no way can he put as much free time on y&R that ptb wants. He can be recast with a better actor, but will they have his charisma is the issue. The man's obligation is to CBS/CM, there will be scheduling conflicts. And maybe a few days here and there isnt enough for ptb.
