I don't think Tyrant should have been created in the first place, especially with the state of that family on this show. They've all pretty much been one once or twice a month. What kind of pacing is that?

I wasn't talking about the pacing, Alvin. I was referring to the dynamic in the scenes of today's episode specifically. It was an interesting dynamic that I wish had been explored in this story from the beginning.

Yeah, but it would have been harder to explore it when these people are on once or twice a month, that was my point.

When Tyra first arrived, she was shoved like hell down our throats, and then somewhere in the fall, her storyline only appeared in like two episodes a month, while it was an awful story, it made me question why she was created in the first place.

Honestly, I think Devon outlived his relevance on this show years ago, such an aimless character. If all they're gonna give him is pining after Lily and Tyra (and he's been doing this throughout two different writing regimes), is there an interest in that character? He's in the top 5 of my "pare down" list.

I agree with you, in the grand scheme of things. Just talking about today's episode, and the scenes that aired today. Obviously in the big picture, Tyra and Devon don't hold any real value. But I'm separating that from the scenes I saw today, and thought they were decent. Doesn't mean I'm glad they're on the show in general. Just that their scenes today were interesting.

Billy Miller was great in the scene today, but I am so over these hospital chapel prayers to God already.

ETA: I really liked Clementine Ford in those last scenes too. She's definitely growing on me.

I agree about Tyra/Devon. Had it not been for the aunt thing, the Devon/Roxy/Tyra scenes actually caught my attention today. I wish there had been some planning behind this story, because the quick family-rewrite really ruined what could have been some good stuff.

So you think it was a quick re-write? I wonder what motivated that?

No more than Daniel & Kevin.

I think he has more relevance than Kevin. I just wish they'd have put Devon in other stories a long time ago.

That was as bad as his hovering over Ashley in court.

The scenes aren't effective if Billy is only there for Katherine & Ashley in emergencies.

Yep.

Mac too for that matter, most of her time is spent with Billy and Chole, not with her grandmother.

Ya got me. But the Tyra-isn't-really-Devon's-aunt beat was so rushed and so thrown together by Deus-ex-machina-Della at the wedding, that it sure felt like a quick rewrite just to get Devon interested in Tyra. If I didn't know the storyline and just turned on today's episode (knowing nothing about Y&R or the past), I think I really would have enjoyed Tyra/Devon/Roxy. But it's all really tainted by that quick rewrite for me.

It's just lazy writing, especially if this is what is supposed to show Mac how good Billy is. Or are we supposed to believe she's so desperate for a sign that she will take anything?

Maria's gotta get back to business stories.

Just about every character would be better off actually working.

Maria's gotta get back to business stories.

Not to bring too much Potpourri in this thread, but if Maria thinks that playing musical chairs to who is CEO of Jabot is a business story, she needs to think again. Business stories are so important to this show, especially with Jabot and Newman still in existence, but Maria and company just don't know how to tell those types of stories.
