Passions Discussion Thread

I think it’s so odd that no one, including Tracey Ross who was romantically involved with him for a period of time in real life, has no idea where Ben Masters is. It was mentioned during the recent Passions Fan Festival and Galen mentioned it with his most recent interview with Soap Opera Digest. He apparently lives on a boat somewhere, hopefully he’s safe wherever he is.

I posted this in the “actors that were involved in real life” thread but figured it was worth posting here as well.

Last week on The Real Showcast, Jade Harlow and Chrystee Pharris did an interview together where they talked about there time on the show. Jade revealed she was engaged to Bruce Michael Hall during the show and got matching wedding band tattoos. She just started the tattoo removal process.

The two also dropped additional tea and talked a lot about there time on Passions, check it out...

Thanks! That was a fun listen! I would love to party with Jade and Chrystee, to get more dirt from the show...though they both said a lot, and overall seemed to have had a good experience working on the show.

i loved Jades story about accidentally pelting Andrea Evans in the eye with the rice (or birdseed) that would definitely haunt me too for the rest of my life...and also Chrystee fighting to get paid for those 9 hours spent on a photo shoot, but being told to just be “grateful” they are even doing one for the Russell Family...some shady B.S there..

For viewers who actually watched the show a little further into it's run.

Does anyone know what was going to be Jared Casey's secret?

I heard rumors that he was going to be working for Alistair, but It seemed he was here one day and gone tomorrow. I wonder did it had to with it going to DIRECTV too?

I actually enjoyed him and Theresa together as couple. They were sexyand fun and didn't have all the drama and disgust that Ethan & Theresa had. Besides, it was great to see Ethan finally see how it was to be on the outside looking in.

I liked Jared as well. I never understood how quickly they dropped him. I wish I could remember what his 'secret' would have been. I'd have to rewatch the time period. I was half in/half out at the time with the show.

So happy to hear they are doing a 20th Anniversary documentary on Passions. I know the show gets a lot of crap from the daytime community but the fact they had that fan festival 2 years ago in LA and now this proves there’s still an audience. Wishing the cast success and looking forward to this doc, should be interesting considering it was the red headed step child of soaps.

    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.
