Why couldn't you post a screencap?

Do I have room to do it? I assumed since the board restrictions had been changed I had exceeded my limit. Looks like it worked though.

Can't put a screen cap in the post but here's the episode. Penberthy appears about 35 minutes in.

Wow, she still looked great. I really liked her, I hope she’s doing well today.

David Bailey was very boring, especially compared to Sam Groom, his predecessor as Russ. I really only have vague memories of him on AW, but I remember being excited to discover him post-AW on his own syndicated series, Police Surgeon.

I did find Michael Ryan oddly compelling even as he played a frequently overbearing, chauvinistic and — thanks to his pairing with Olive — stupid man.

I loved Sam Groom!

If I recall correctly, she couldn't attend the anniversary 'do last May. I think it was only because of advanced age, though, so not anything alarming.

Wow! Ms Penberthy was still looking great in 1999 -- a full 10-years after her final appearance on Another World during the 25th anniversary.  And if my calculations are correct, Ms Penberthy was 67 years old at this time (1999).

Yes.  Hard to believe AW's dear Pat Randolph (Ms Penberthy) is 93 years old.

Pat Randolph was one of the many soap opera characters that women my mothers age could identify with during the 1960s, '70s, and early-'80s.  Pat's life very much mirrored the lives of suburban women all over the US, with a few exceptions -- two murder trials for instance, and a nanny who kidnapped Pat's twins.  LOL.

But in those days, most soap operas tried to be as realistic/believable as possible, with occasional over-the-top plots -- just to spice things up briefly.

Sadly, for the past 30-years most soap operas have tried to be as over-the-top as possible, with occasional believable plots -- just to tone things down briefly.

As Katherine Chancellor would say, "Dear God in Heaven..."

You are most welcome! Easy as pie. Xanthe is my hero for finding the right episode!

At 73, about to turn 74, Feb. 8, it seems very possible to me!!

An ilegal abortion, killing the cad who got her pregnant, being sterile, miraculously being able to conceive. She went through a lot of things women went through in the 70s.

Loved that realism! Although also AW seemed to me to be close to a play produced for the small screen. It had a kind of a proscenium arch look & feel to it.

Ditching Pat would be up there as one of AW's dumbest moves.

She looked great and with only one marriage under her belt there was plenty of story for the character.

I wish I could find the interview Beverly Penberthy gave when she was fired. She held a mini press conference and blasted the show.

I found this post in an archived thread quoting a few stories:

Two murders, though.

Okay, let's see if any of these articles are what we want.

Well, just darn. Too little to read. Back to the drawing board.

Interesting seeing Tom Eplin. In hindsight, he retired after leaving ATWT in 2002. Was his retirement hs choice or was he blacklisted from the industry?

Didn't he get burned in a way by his last contract with P&G? I always thought this is why he quit daytime after. If I remember correctly (and I may not), there was something to the effect he signed a new contract with AW roughly a year before the show went off the air. He had it in his contract that he got paid for 3 years (whether the show was canceled or not.) But he found out when the show got canceled, P&G worded the contract that he was under contract for them and not AW specifically. That's when they told him that "Jake" was being moved to Oakdale and he had to remain with the show until his contract with P&G was up otherwise he would be in breach of his contract. I don't believe he ever wanted to be on ATWT and was dragged there. He left as soon as that contract was up even though "Jake" and "Molly" had a decent following.

If that's the case, I could see him not wanting to sign another contract with daytime after that.
