Wasn't Joanna Going already leaving by the point where Jamie and Vicky became a proper couple?

I don't think Swajeski had any real interest in Vicky and Jamie as a couple either. Vicky had no true romance under her pen until Ryan, although I did enjoy her [!@#$%^&*] buddy relationship with Evan.

I do wonder if they were considering recasting Lisa, as the whole daughter retcon with Felicia happened not long after she left, and they also had some Matt/Lisa interaction.

Thanks. I'm not surprised.

For all the show seemed to think of Lisa and Jamie (just look at their heavy use in the opening credits), they are a very dull, forgettable couple. I don't even know what story you could have for them beyond my wishing Lisa had learned about the time her aunt had tried to get into the hottest Jamie's pants.

I remember reading Joanna Going saying in an interview that she was the last soap actress to only be given a 2 year contract and that actresses after her were required to sign for her. Don't know how accurate that is, but she was not going to sign for another year, so don't know why they invested so much time if she was not going to be there long-term. Makes no sense to me. Her character was used to cause so much damage, and for what? Could have used time and story on other characters with much more potential. As DRW50 says, Jamie and Lisa were so dull. Am I misremembering or didn't the show try to pair Lisa and Adam at one point?

Adam had a crush on her. They did seem to be pushing for more (I imagine it would have been a quad) if he had stayed. I assume he, Cheryl and Scott were all let go - their departures all felt rushed.

Lisa probably should have left after the end of the Sin Stalker story.

Adam was at a loose end after MJ left town and showed interest in both Lisa and Victoria at different points in time. But neither interest was developed into anything.

Presumably if Sally Spencer had not been fired or if they had recast MJ they had intended to have a triangle of Adam, Chad, and MJ, maybe a quadrangle with Sara. But without MJ that didn't happen, and honestly based on the way the storyline had played out up to that point that's for the best.

I can also understand that Adam wasn't really as compelling as adding Jake and then Marley to the Vicky/Jamie storyline. And prior to that Jake had been presented as an essentially decent guy in order to be worthy of Marley -- not as pure and virtuous as Adam, but good enough for a bad boy. But when Vicky's life blew up over Steven's paternity, both his history with Vicky and his bad boy edge had more impact than white knight Adam.

Jamie in this era was hard to root for so I don't think I had a rooting interest in the Lisa/Jamie/Vicky triangle. Why should I care who wins the stodgy doctor?

Another World December 22 1988

In the Cory Publishing building we had a pre-Christmas party where everyone was having fun, sort of. Julie Ann and officer Rick had a cold and brief run-in, where a lot of racist undertones were coming to light. I empathize with Julie Ann and think that Rick acted completely inappropriate and absurd at her family house and later... at the Snowflake ball. So... I respect that she is not excusing his behavior. Good for her!

Iris tried to seduce Michael once again... and she failed miserably! If I got a cent every time someone gave that woman the cold shoulder... I'll be a millionaire. Later in the evening gigolo Evan confronted Iris about her acting distant towards him. Well, dude, do you forget you are nothing but an escort to her?! Escorts rarely get special treatment after they are no longer needed... for service. So... NEXT.

Well... Vince was right! Mary did indeed get in trouble for helping Pilara. She stole Mary's treasured silver candlestick!!!!!!!! After Mary specifically told her how important it is to her. Ugh, I've been in a similar situation where I've helped a person... who later stole from me... so this is bringing so much nasty memories. It's the most horrible position to be in... and makes you not able to trust again for a long time. And I do not excuse stealing with... being in trouble... or in a bad situation with her abusive boyfriend. I just don't. That's my personal choice.

We also had trouble in Sharlene's house... when it was discovered that the necklace that was found after the ball... was not the one Josie lost. The mother-daughter duo are going to have a BIG problem. Rachel gave them this necklace and told them it's a very sentimental in the family, not only very expensive. Josie should have been more careful! I completely blame her  and I think Sharlene not telling her that the necklace is still lost is a... sign these two are having toxic co-dependency. Sharlene, are you going to fall every time your daughter falls?!! Let her feel the consequences of her irresponsibility!

Overall... it was a GREAT episode. Not the most exciting one, but not every episode can be fireworks and drama.

I still give it 9/10.

Favorite moment - Iris trying to seduce Michael.

Good for Micheal! I know he's shaming Iris, but she's asking for it. She really has a lot of nerve trying this with him over & over. I mean he's been clear. No mixed signals, none at all. I even find it difficult to imagine that time in the past when they apparently had a thing.

I know we had a clip posted not long ago of a flashback where Michael "rescued" her from a man she wasn't excited about and the vibe felt really off to me. It would probably have made more sense with Carmen's Iris to have suggested that it was business that had brought them together, but they really stressed the Riviera (wasn't that Josie's teen phone hotline nickname as well?) and romance aspect which I found unconvincing.

    • A little too much focus on Chad and Cat today but I enjoyed the episode. I have a feeling that Jennifer’s gonna get dumped on though, even though I think that her anger is completely understandable and justified. And honestly, Ron is finally gone; Abigail can come back now.  But, welcome back, Anna! It was nice seeing Carrie have scenes with her mother. Christie Clark and Leann Hunley have never really had that many scenes together and to see them have them now is really nice. I’m glad that both of them were there to comfort Marlena too. Their words were definitely the thing that Marlena needed to hear. Btw, with all this talk of Noah, does it mean that he’s gonna be introduced soon? Amy, revealing that John changed her flat tire many years ago seemed a little random though. I would rather she have said something about how everybody in Salem knows of John Black because of how he was always such a hero. But at the same time, her story also showed what a great guy John was.  I liked Kate’s scenes with Philip too, and her promise to get back at Xander for what he did. And since we didn’t see JPL in the bed, did he need some time off or something? And yeah, everything involving ‘One Stormy Night’ still seems very Ron-like to me.
    • The second photo featuring the late John Spencer is from the Law & Order episode, "Prescription For Death", which was the (second) pilot/first episode all the way back in 1990! He played the father of a daughter that had gone to the ER for a mere sore throat but ended up dead because the doctor on call was drunk and had given her medication that she had an adverse reaction to, after receiving some other medication. So, he will always have that great distinction in addition to The West Wing. (The first pilot, "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", was filmed in 1988! The show was offered to CBS, but they passed. In syndication, it is oddly placed as the sixth episode of Season 1. And Roy Thinnes played DA Alfred Wentworth there. When NBC picked up the show two years later, Thinnes declined to return, and that's how we got Steven Hill's DA Adam Schiff.)
    • exactly. I can understand schadenfreude if it were real, but a lot of this is just an engineered distraction.
    • Days of our Lives S60E204 – Thursday, June 5, 2025 Okay, today’s episode was kind of boring. It was nice seeing Jack and Jen back, but they wasted an entire episode on Jen chatting with Julie - one scene would’ve been enough. Also, why didn’t Jack and Jen go comfort Marlena? And wouldn’t a flashback with Jack, Jen, and John have been great? Maybe something from the Cruise of Deception era? Bottom line - it feels like once John’s memorial is over and the returning fan favorites leave Salem… the show’s going to be dull again.
    • Everything with Elon and Trump is a stunt. If people, and the sycophantic press, are talking about their "feud," they are not talking about Republican plans to gut Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA.
    • I can't fully remember, but I don't think they tried to get Beth Chamberlin back. I think Laibson/McTavish likely saw Beth as old news and wanted to move Philip on; either that or have her return only when Philip was closely tied to a new woman. Thanks as always for these recaps. I think I had stopped watching around this time and mostly kept up by reading in the soap magazines. Bridget's degradation was horrible to watch, as the character had grown so much over the years and was clearly regressed just to be a foil for a "hot" couple viewers had zero investment in.
    • Having the majority of the cast on those low numbers is no way to tell story. And just 2 dayplayers for the month. So sad for the #1 soap.
    • I believe it was. And this is actually one of the cases where I wouldn’t mind some dumb soap opera bringing back from the dead. They gave Mishael, Amanda, with all of Hilary’s connections but none of the personality except for fleeting moments. Hilary absolutely should’ve just left town. They decided to kill her and the baby. Just baffling,
    • That was Mal Young right? He thought a tragic death was a better option than crafting a story where Hilary leaves town. Was it a case of punishing someone who wants to leave? And then they have to jump through hoops to bring the actress back.
    • Ooo @TaoboiI will say I just watched Amanda give it to Abby and I loved it. Honestly just made me miss Hilary more. I will never understand or get over that decision to kill her off. Also call me crazy but I could definitely see the Damian actor playing NuTed on BTG. Very much still enjoying the Lily attraction.
