In honor of AW's 45th anniversary,I thought I'd start this thread and perhaps all future posts concerning this show could be in one place.at present there are several threads.

Here's a description from Irna Phillips at the time of debut.

"What I want to say is that none of us can face reality 24 hours a day. We must have private 'worlds', made up of our down dreams and pleasures and emotions, into which to retreat. Otherwise, it would be simply too much!"

The story follows the lives of the families of two brothers, William and James Matthews, in a suburban university town. It opens with the death of William, then shows how the sad events affects the widow and their children and the other brother and his family. Grandma Matthews gets into the action, to. The writer promises to relate to contemporary problems; two of them she mentioned are school dropouts and illegitimacy.

Does anyone have video of Russ and Sharlene from around 1989 in which Sharlene has a "newly created" flashback with Russ being abusive toward her (and possibly raping her) during their marriage back in 1978?  And does anyone know if that flashback scene was recreation of an actual Harding Lemay scripted scene from '78, or perhaps it was not??  I do remember Sharlene's flashback was fairly historically accurate, but have always wondered if it was a recreation of an actual scene from '78, or just based on occurrences from that era.   Any thoughts about this or help finding the 1989 episode would be appreciated.

Isn't the new photo montage at the AWHP just really excellent. I know I was favorably impressed & I am not so easily impressed either.  Thinking back, about 30 years, Eddie set the gold standard for soap opera presence on the web, which at the time was exceedingly new.

AWHP has continued to be par excellence. I don't know about you but I for one have a deep appreciation for it.

No need to apologize.  Online bullies are like gnats at a picnic.  They feast until someone pulls out a can of RAID.    LOL.

By the way, which are your five favorite AW characters, and why?

Ada, Connie Ford

Rachel, VW

Iris, the divine Beverlee

Carl, Charles Keating

Mac, Douglas Watson

Vicky, actually both twins, Anne Heche

So I cheated, this is 6, TOUGH!

Why is so much harder.

Anne Heche is a personal favorite. I followed her life & career after AW. I miss her. It still does not seem right that she is not in the same universe as we are.

Ada, Connie Ford is my favorite actress, period.

I have edits I have done featuring her.

Rachel, when I began watching it was when Agnes Nixon was in the process of saving the show. I always gravitated to Rachel. Going forward that did not change.

Now you go. Who do you love?

BTW, the idea that I was name-dropping is ludicrous. Actually I found it

funny. I laughed out loud as the saying goes.

Now, when I post about talking to Carolyn Culliton or Courtney Sherman Simon, you better believe I am serious about what was said & sharing info like that to me is just what we do. I don't get why some people want to make it something it clearly is not.

I don't remember anything about him being abusive or raping her, but I do remember one flashback. It starts around 20 minutes. Sorry for the low volume. Hopefully someone here who saw the 1978 scenes may know how similar they are.

It’s amazing that Eddie and Mike are still putting so much effort into the AWHP 26 years after the cancellation. It’s an incredible archive and the site is laid out very well.

Nice list.  My five faves are:

(I'm an old timer, by the way)

Pat Randolph

Ada Davis

Mary Matthews

Lenore Moore Curtain Delany

Liz Matthews

Sven Petersen

Oops!  That's also six.

I tried to come up with 5 and I could not even narrow it down to 5 for each decade. I really miss this show -  well the show up until 1996 anyway.

Thanks.

Why does that Peluso recipe sound oddly dirty...

I love the Vicky Wyndham article, in part because looking up a photo of her husband and her does give real hoebag vibes (although he did save her when a weirdo fan started hitting her), and in part because several years later she would blast Logan to hell for panning her work as Justine.

Of your list I also very much love Pat, I guess that's all, except of course we overlap on Ada.

EFulton, why do i think you didn't even try? Do you think it was easy for me? Well, it was not.

Where is your old college spirit? Also I miss AW so very terribly. It actually hurts.

Thank you.  This was probably the flashback I was thinking about.  I don't think they recreated more than one flashback.  But after watching it, I'm confident it was not based on an old Harding Lemay script.  I was watching in 1978, and I don't think Russ was throwing around the word whore in those days.  LOL.   So the flashback, although based on authentic AW history, was totally created by Swajeski.    Again, thank you for the research.

I tried but I am not up to the task!

Peluso is a lady, also a very religious person. SO you are offbase with your "dirty" interpretation.

All is forgiven.

I know all about Lisa and her life. I just thought the recipe name was funny. I wish these conversations didn't have to always be so intense.

Why is what I said intense to you? I don't think in those terms, at least not most of the time.  I was just offering information. You make me feel bad when I have nothing to feel bad about. I think you take things as attack when they just aren't.

Yes, the Peluso recipe does sound rather naughty. 🙂

I wish Victoria Wyndham had given more in-depth interviews. Oh the Justine of it all.

Carolyn Culliton was responsible for the creation of the laughable Justine plot. Why not give her a long lost twin and just repeat the Vickie/Marley story or better yet do a DID story.  I hated every minute of Justine and was horrified that King/Carlson/Phelps/Lemay continued it.  Terrible.  No wonder Culliton never lasted as a head writer. And VW was cringeworthy in most scenes. Embarrassing.
