Oh, Lord, yes. All that wailing and gnashing of teeth, and for what? Nick's sister, and some pop-star who, IRL, wouldn't even land the cover of Modern Dogs.

The civil trial in today's USA episode won't disappoint. It was a thing of beauty, especially a very heated exchange between Ashley and Gloria. I am too very confused about Sharon's dream, I don't know how to interpret it.... I've said all along Summer is not Nick's..... for Summer's ultrasound to be going on at the exact same time Jack says goodbye to his father.... I have always read into that as meaning Summer was indeed Jack's. It would go full circle..... putting Phyllis and Jack back together and Sharon and Nick back together. Patty Jane of course would be caught in the cross fire and most likely within a year will be a blip on the radar, but this is Y&R so what maybe 3? LOL.

MAB had pretty much dropped Restless Style.... and here it is dictating things again.,... Hopefully with Nick leaving and Phyllis forecasting the magazine collapsing actually comes true. Its probably the worst thing on this show next to Cane.... who by the way MUST DIE! It hasn't been said for a few pages.... so thought I'd keep that fire going ;)

Great post and I agree. People act like Tracey would get story if she signed a contract, but Maria Bell has shown little interest in writing for Lauren as a business woman or as a couple with Michael, so I don't think she is beating down Tracey's door to sign her to a contract.

I think it is ridiculous that people claim Tracey has no loyalty to the show because she is recurring and so in some way deserves to get no story. She has been loyal to the Bells for twenty-five years. She wants to spend a few weeks a year with her kids on vacation, but is available for the vast majority of the time to play any story they want to give her. The show hired her back as recurring and she accepted. And it is a better deal for the show because they get a good actress, and she is good, and only have to pay her when she is used. Most of these shows want good actors who would be willing to be recurring but it works both ways. If you expect an actor to stay loyal as recurring and be available then you need to give them something to do. Nobody is talking about Tracey leading a story and some may not like Lauren and Michael as a couple but she is a fan favorite and so Maria needs to figure out how to use these actors and not just play her favorites five days a week.

I don't particularly like Ashley and never have. I can't stand her with Victor, but I don't wish that Eileen gets fired because I know she has her fans. I have always thought Josh Morrow was a mediocre actor but he has his fans so I don't want him written out. I want a show that is balanced. Sure some characters will push more story, but at this point Maria and company need to think about how to utilize talented vets that have been languishing on the backburner too long.

I don't think the scene was that bad and in fact people were saying on this site that they liked seeing Lauren being bitchy. She is no Drake Hogestyn. That is insulting, but any actor needs decent material to play. Lauren is nowhere so I don't get why that is a good place to be. The only decent scenes she has been written by Maria and company in the last 6 mos were the scenes opposite Beth Maitland and in Michael's dream story on Christmas Eve and most people really enjoyed those scenes.

I can see MJ really messing with Sharon ala Glen Close in Fatal Attraction, but everybody thinking it was Phyllis. Might be good irony that because of Phyllis' reputation everyone thinks she is the one messing with Sharon when she is innocent and it is MJ. I wonder if Sharon will even have this child.

On one hand Maria seems to be repeating so many aspects of the original Nick and Phyllis affair with Sharon and Nick, but MJ is the wildcard.

LML did Lauren no favors, but at least she was used. Jack Smith is the one who liked Lauren and Michael and created them as a smart, fun, snarky couple before Gloria came on and took over the family. I think both Michael and Lauren are hurt by their constant propping of Michael's family. Maria needs to give them a story separate from the family, but she seems to love having Michael be there for the family. He is in far more scenes with his brother and mother than his own wife and son, and her exclusion of Lauren from many family scenes is just poor writing. She goes out of her way to include Katherine, Amber, Daniel, Jeffrey and even Murphy (two recurring actors by the way) in these family scenes and yet people aren't supposed to wonder where Lauren is if they don't mention her name.

I think the Fatal Attraction is exactly what we are going to get with MJ. As for Jack and Sharon, they love this quad. It will never end even if many of us are sick of it. It is their bread and butter story. The sad thing is Jack looks pitiful and desperate for a child when he tells Sharon it does not matter who the father is. Jack is not a favorite, but I am tired of him getting Nick's scraps. He shouldn't have to settle for a woman who is obviously in love with another man. It's a shame Jack wasn't allowed to raise his own child.

Unfortunately.

Whoever said Patty Jane will one day a blip on the radar had it absolutely right. In a year or two, I believe, she won't even be around. Maybe then, Y&R will have the kind of HW who can (re-)introduce Patty Williams the way she was meant to be.

    • This episode was probably the most we've ever seen of Jan.. and it took long enough. The phone conversation between Jan/Ashley also shed light on their backstory.. and I think it explains why Ashley seems to live in a dreamworld and why she's having difficulties with living with Derek.  Derek could be doing everything right and Ashley would still have a problem because she was an only child, didn't see her mother model positive male/female interactions, and sounds as if she was alone a lot of the time. Nicole is modeling healthy human behavior and she would be smart not to listen to Dani's advice... well intentioned as it is. Eva is the character you root for because she's suffering the consequences of her actions.  And if I were Eva, I wouldn't want to be part of the Dupree world.   I'm hoping the Doug/Joey scenes today is signaling that we're finally moving to the next stage of this story... Doug either asking Vanessa for the money, or letting Joey have dibs on Vanessa's business books, etc.   And Joey finally showing his true colors makes me think we might be approaching that next stage of this story.
    • Lord have mercy!!! Not SilkPress vs Eva at Oprhany Gene for everyone to see!!!! Though I loved Vernon shading SilkPress. I continue to love all this fallout.   Is THAT Joey's endgame?
    • WAIT!!?  You don't want to know CM's workout secrets?  And a recap of his insta feed?  What's wrong with you?   Anyhow, today's show had good character moments.  I feel like Sonny/Laura brought it down.  I really like Tracey and Jason scenes so I think I am a weirdo.  Carly/Lulu were actually pretty good as well, but Carly's dress was some sort of bondage/leather type situation?  It was a strange wardrobe choice lol.
    • Oh God When are we gonna see this on BTG?
    • Yeah, I don't really love Felicity being used to push the Chad/Cat agenda.  I don't get the question on Xander's behavior either.  He was wrong and offensive. I like Xander.  I think Paul Telfer is great.  If Marlena did the same thing I would say she's wrong too.  Characters are imperfect and that's fine.
    • Vanessa told Joey that her best friend had cheated and has a surprise daughter.  Joey said the same had happened to him.  I wasn't sure if Joey was saying he has an adult out-of-wedlock child?
    • Interesting. I definitely think that it's possible that Jan could be a former lover of Joey's from back in the day, maybe back when he was still married. I won't be surprised if it comes out at some point that Jan used to be an escort or something.
    • Quick question, How are you guys making time to watch all these soaps? I consider myself a pretty organized person, but since I have committed to watching more of the older soaps. I feel all over the place, and can not figure out a schedule that seems to work.  How are you all doing it?   Thanks. I will check that out.
    • Oh, poor Henry had to wait for the grave to finally come "out"! The whole things was McTavish plot dictated so that Hart could have money to pull off his scam of Roger later. The fortune is totally forgotten later. Which reminds me WHY did they fire Hilliard who actually could kinda pass for a midwestern farm boy..from JOISEY Grillo? AM and Lucy's wedding has got to be the weirdest wedding up to that point and really exemplified the McLaiby cheesy run. Universal Studios? And the Spauldings shut the place down for the wedding that only involves 6 people??? Its not even that weird that Bridget and David arent there...they didn't even invite AM's Mom or Grandfather...
    • It seems easy to be empathic that if a random man raised his voice to me at the mall today, I would not be appeased if he later went and apologized to my sister. I like giving the character more to do, because there is a value in representing a person with a congenital disorder being employed, given that the unemployment rate in that community tops 83%.  I just hope they find a voice for the character that matches her functioning ability.  As for Cat, I wonder if she is going to inherit any of Clyde's money?  And that was the reason for the phone call.  I know he's not dead, but he could have named her family as the beneficiary of some insurance policy if he were to be incapacitated.  And the call could have been an attorney trying to reach her to give her money.
